Beyond Rangoon on DVD

MWA, who has been devoted to trying to get Beyond Rangoon released on DVD has some great news:

“For those of you who have been waiting years for this, ‘Beyond Rangoon’ will finally be on DVD….region 2 that is, in Japan and Italy.

It will be in widescreen, 5.1 sound, and have the movie trailer and color insert for extras.

OK, the good news nowadays is that you can program your home DVD player to be region free, to break the codes to play only region 1 for US DVDs.

Google: the name of your DVD player (Philips, Sony, etc.), and use the model name and number (DVD 240054, for example, usually located on the front of the machine), and you will be taken to different web sites to get a code to crack your DVD players region code reader. My players at home now play all DVD’s from around the world: any region (UK, Japan, and Italy are region 2; Australia is region 4, for example).

Here are links to the ‘Beyond Rangoon’ DVD.

MWA provided another link, too, but it wouldn’t behave itself and was trying to ruin the page format, so I had to remove it. You can find it in the original comment, though.

For those of you who aren’t aware of Beyond Rangoon, this award winning movie is based on true events in Burma. Patricia Arquette plays a tourist, Laura, who ends up becoming involved in a struggle for freedom that is still going on today. It is also a terrific adventure story!

Wow! That is exciting news! But it sucks for all of us in North America. Maybe that means that they’ll soon be following with a Region 1 release. I hope they do, because, like MWA, I have been waiting forever for this to be released on dvd. I hope it comes soon and with lots of extras. Thanks for the tip, MWA and Katelyn.

I’ll be looking for this. Katelyn, do you mind if I copy some of this info over to my Yahoo group?

    Dawn,
As long as MWA doesn’t mind it is fine with me.

    Hi Katelyn,
I was searching for sites on Medium and I am so happy to stumble upon this one! This summer, I just watched the entire Medium series (so far), and I am hooked! So glad to find someone who loves the series enough to have a blog about it. Would you mind if I linked to you in my personal blog? (Just so I can frequently check for updates?)

Go ahead and copy the links and blog away about Beyond rangoon making it to DVD. The good news is that you can easily unlock the region coding on your home dvd player. It really is SO easy. Just a few clicks of the remote and it unlocks. I tried it and it works, as I found an old 80’s cartoon on region 2 dvd (Visionaries, don’t laugh) online and had to have it.
The other good news? The movie is being put on DVd by Castle Rock Entertainment and Warner Brothers, who I knew had the rights. So, it likely will be out here in the not so distant future. Fingers crossed….

here is a link to unlocking region codes for DVD players….

    Shelley,
I’m glad to hear Medium has found another fan! It is a great show. Sure, I’d be happy to have you link to the blog.

It is very, very easy to make your home DVD player region free, therefore you CAN watch ‘Beyond Rangoon’.

    http://www.alldvdcodes.com/

Or you can jsut google ‘DVD region hack, unlock codes’

I ahve tried it, it works. I bought a region 2 Visionaries DVD (don’t laugh), and it works on both of my home players.

Try it, and there is an unlimited world of DVD’s out there.

It is also NOt against the law, and some countries are actually fighting (in court) to have companies NOT put regions on DVDs.

Pleased to say that 2 weeks ago i brought the remastered Beyond Rangoon DVD in English, with additional interviews. Sound and picture quality are excellent and the DVD is not restricted to any one region, this is not a copy of a copy, but remastered.
