Bionic Woman Premiere

I thought it would be interesting to live blog the first episode of Bionic Woman, which should have a strong female lead in it. Starts off a bit bloody. A woman named Sarah is slaughtering people and is killed by a man, Jae, who says he loves her right before he pulls the trigger. Now we are on to a teen with an attitude giving her guardian (her sister?) some grief. On to a bioethics class. Boy, I’m having trouble keeping up, here!

Whoa, a pregnancy. This woman packs a lot of excitement into the day. Luckily, Will, bioethics prof, steps up to the plate. On the way home, he starts talking about what they should name the baby. Then, their vehicle is rammed by a truck and they are flipping end over end. Will is calling, “Jaime. Jaime.” Isn’t that the woman who died at the beginning of the episode stepping out of the truck?

Jaime does not look good. She seems to be short an eye and a few other essentials. Will looks slightly injured. They’re losing the baby. Major surgery is under way. I think we are watching the birth of the bionic woman.

The bad guy, er… girl was after Dr. Will Anthros. The baby and Jaime were just casualties. Her name is Sarah and she is definitely still alive.

OUCH! Remind me not to give anyone superhuman strength if they are injured. Jaime just freaked out and threw Will into a wall. She wakes up from her dream to see he’s wearing a cast. Oops. It wasn’t a dream.

And we find out that Jaime wasn’t supposed to be bionic. People want to keep her in the facility. They find out she has seen Sarah somehow, but as they are discussing it, she escapes with some help from Will, who she is really angry with.

“Mummy, there’s a lady out there running really fast, as fast as the car.”

Mom gives lecture about telling stories.

“I just thought it was really cool that a girl could do that, that’s all.”

What a cute kid.

Shocker – Jaime runs so fast that she leaves the helicopter in the dust.

Jaime avoids Will and spends her downtime doing amazing, impossible stunts. They are pretending that she and Will went skiing, but sis doesn’t believe her.

Sarah sees that her guy is gone and flashes back to the wreck. Is she wondering if Will is still alive?

Bobby – a new character. He is being forced to do something he doesn’t want to do.

Who is Jae talking to? Will’s Dad?! I didn’t see that coming.

Sarah has tracked down Jaime, who suddenly seems to be feeling ill and dizzy. Yup, definitely ill. Sarah is being helpful. Sarah is also a bionic woman.

I do believe we are about to see Jaime decimate some punks. She almost killed him and seems horrified that she came that close.

Yep, she was horrified. She went right to Will to demand information. They want to train her to be a weapon.

I guess Will is forgiven. I’d personally still be mad.

She asks a few more questions and then Will is shot. Sarah is trying to take them both out. Jae comes running and finds Will in bad shape, alone. Sarah can’t bring herself to kill Jae.

Ooh, Jaime looks mad. I think we are about to have a bionic battle. Yep.

Oh, goody. A cool seeming woman smoking. Isn’t that super. Let’s encourage teens to watch this episode. As Sarah puffs away, she talks about being bionic.

“Time on.”

At least she got rid of the ciggy. She’s beating Jaime pretty badly.

Jaime is the good guy, so she has to come back swinging.

A helo breaks up the fight and Sarah runs. Jaime comes back to check on her man. She straightens out the other scientists/businessmen and goes home to her baby sister.

I do believe that is Will’s dad I’m looking at, outside of prison.

Ok, I’d say there’s a lot of action and definitely a strong female character, but I’ll be interested in seeing if she can start commanding the scenes with Sarah – I found myself looking at the bad girl first.

    OK, this sounds very confusing!

Katelyn, do you see any life for this show?

I was happily watching ABC all night. Without Medium on their fall schedule, the only thing I have an interest in seeing on NBC so far this year is the premier of Las Vegas Friday night. ABC has a kick ass fall schedule this year! Dancing With the Stars has been insanely good so far – just pure entertainment and enjoyment, and I think the jury is still out on Private Practice, Dirty Sexy Money looks to be good fun with a little mystery thrown in.

I don’t really care for the direction the writers have taken Las Vegas in the last couple of years, but I have always like Vanessa Marcil since her days on GH and Josh Duhmel since he was on AMC, and Tom Selleck joins the cast this year, so I’ll give it a chance.

The only other show I would consider would be Chuck, just to see for myself if I would enjoy it or if it targets 11 to 13 year old boys.

Wasn’t a huge fan of Bionic Woman when it was on originally, and so far I haven’t heard anything to make me change my mind about the new one.

With L&O CI moving to USA and USA picking up the new L & O SVU’s pretty quickly, I’ll wait to watch them on USA.

If Medium were treated better by NBC, I might consider watching a few of the new shows, but since it’s on their delayed start schedule yet again and receives no love at all from NBC, I’ll happily watch ABC this year and the occasional show on CBS. Of course, whenever Medium comes on, I will be watching and most likely taping every episode again.

Only 19 days until Medium Season 3 is released on DVD!

    Betty,
I loved Michelle Ryan in a show she did a few years ago, but the show got really weird and I stopped watching. I hope she will be able to improve and hold her own against the talented Katee, who just really stole every scene completely. I don’t think it lived up to the hype at all, but maybe future episodes will be better without all that pre-story stuff packed into a single hour.
I’ve been reading other reviews today and a lot of reviewers kind of felt like I did about Katee being so much better.
Hooray on the Season 3 release!

I agree with you completely, Katelyn. I was sort of disappointed with this after all the hype leading up to it. After all the promotions that NBC put into it, and the previews that they put all over the web, I felt that the show was lackluster at best. I didn’t feel anything for the characters, even in the scenes when she discovered her new abilities and what had been done to her. There was very little depth to the character at all. It seemed that they put more energy into the special effects than they did into developing the character. There wasn’t enough backstory to give you any feel for the characters. I felt that the show should have had a two-hour premiere, but with the lack of character development, they wouldn’t have been able to fill the entire two hours.

I may give it another week or two to grab my attention and hold it before I give up on it completely, but so far, I’m not really impressed. And you’re right about Katee Sackhoff. She stole every scene she was in. I really love her on Battlestar Galactica. And I was disappointed in Miguel Ferrer, after all the talk about him leaving Crossing Jordan to join this show.

On another Medium note, I noticed that Anjelica Huston is scheduled to be on the Craig Ferguson next Friday night. I’m not sure if this is a new appearance, but maybe if it is, we can get some scoop on the new season of Medium. Just thought you might like to know. I plan to catch this just to see if there is any news on Medium’s new season.
