This year, Blog Action Day is taking on poverty. I’d like to ask you to join in and do something today to help out someone who is hungry, homeless, or unable to seek medical care. If you can’t think of a way to help, check out the list of ways you can help fight poverty on the Blog Action Day website.
If you have some free time, swing a hammer at one of Patricia Arquette’s favorite charities – Habitat for Humanity and help build someone who is homeless a place to raise a family. If you’re broke and you only have a few seconds, you can click on the link at The Hunger Site each day.
Please take a moment today to help someone who is less fortunate than you. And if you have a blog, spread the word about Blog Action Day.

indeed. i went over to the hunger site.
for my part, i usually also turn to sites like freerice (rice donation), kiva (microfinance), and goodsearch (donation per search), as ways to help alleviate poverty online. i also put up their banners on my blog.
saw this post via the front page of blog action day. it’s great that you’re participating.

so… Habitat for Humanity is good for families. too bad for poor singles men and women. what about them?? Section 8 and HUD also Housing authority have very very very long waiting list to get a apt of thier own . its wasting time to wait. I dont know they managed to wait that long??
Its becoming diffculties for poverty americans put up with very tight limited and thier dreams died everyday because of the goverment kept cutting programs and not able to meet their needs. what a shame!….

Dawn,
Please don’t feel bad about commenting. I’m glad you shared some of your struggles. Sorry you’re having such a tough time. I know people around here who are having similar problems. I understand the reasoning behind Habitat for Humanity only accepting families – they’re trying to get kids into a stable home. However, it is a shame that there aren’t more options for single people who need some help.
I’ve never gone hungry, so I can’t truly understand how it feels to know you can’t feed your family, but I do know how it feels to barely scrape by. We come from a large family and there were a few years growing up where lunch was p&b and dinner was mac & cheese.
