Last summer, Japanese geniuses the Boredoms joined together with 77 drummers under the Brookyln Bridge to play a 77-minute composition. I wasn’t there, but I heard it was amazing and this year they’re doing it again. This time it’s on the Williamsburg waterfront, will be on August 8, 2008 (8/8/08) at 8:08 p.m., and will be 88 minutes long and it’s called–guess what–88BoaDrum.
Apparently last year there were many woes with getting inside so this year they are giving out tickets (it’s still free). Tickets will be availabe starting tomorrow, July 18, on brownpapertickets.com, as well as at Other Music and Sound Fix.
It’s being sponsored by Nike Soprtswear and attendees can get a free t-shirt from the “88Boadrum NSW Tee” collection, featuring designs by Eye of the Boredoms.
There is one hitch though…they are doing the show simultaneously in Los Angeles and it seems that no actual members of the Boredoms will be at the one in NY, which is “conducted on behalf of the Boredoms by Brooklyn’s own Gang Gang Dance.” The 88 drummers will still be playing the same composition though and it will definitely still be a spectacle.
