I’m no genealogist but the Internet is abuzz with claims that you can trace back Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s family trees to discover an interesting political connection. According to genealogists, Brad is related to Barack Obama while supposedly Angelina is related to Hillary Clinton.
Clinton is of French-Canadian descent and is related to Angie as a ninth cousin, twice removed. Their connection is through Jean Cusson who died in 1718 in St. Sulpice, Quebec. Meanwhile, Obama and Brad are also ninth cousins, and it’s through Edwin Hickman, who died in 1769 in Virginia.
(It actually turns out that both presidential candidates have a great deal of interesting relatives if you’re into that kind of thing.

I find this amusing. If true, and if this group is authentic and from looking at their credentials, they are, it just shows that we as a people are closer than you might think.
As for blood, it means that Shiloh and the newest Jolie-Pitt(s) are related to both Obama and Clinton. I wonder if they will both go after Shiloh’s vote so they can influence her parents!!

Who cares if BP is related to Obama – it’s critically important that we help him get voted into office!!! We need to regain our respect around the world, and Obama is a light being willing to take the very difficult job of president of this country…he will bring us light!
I don’t know what to believe. I really don’t care much about politics, I do vote though. If they are related in some ways, I don’t think they will cast their votes because of their relationships but rather to their political views. I’m glad, Brad & Angie didn’t endorse any of the candidates. God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
Sherry your topic made it to international news today( NBC ).They were talking about how Brad & Angie related to Obama & Hillary. So it must be really true. Hillary is also related to Celine Dion. How weird is that? I guess, in some ways we are all related. Peace & blessings to all.

Listening to Obama is like making sense of all the distortion to which we’ve become accustomed… I for one am looking for real change and enlisting the help of the young vote. We are in the 21st century, it’s time to wake up and take more responsibility for our future…Obama is our man! BTW, I seem to remember BP was considering making an endorsement for Obama.
I’m an English person but from what i’ve seen on the news and read etc. i would really like Obama to win..he seems like a strong and capable man. As for the relation..i don’t think it will influence Brad and Ange’s vote..i guess they’ll vote for who they think is worthy.. It’s strange if it’s true though!
As much as everyone like Obama, (and he seems like a capable person). You need to take a closer look at where he has won against Hillary. He has won in the states that usually vote Republican, where as Hillary has won in the states that vote Democratic. When you take this into a larger picture of the presidential race, this could create more of a division of the votes and the Republicans could be back in office. So you chose do you want Hillary, Obama, or the Republicans. I also believe Obama would have a harder time on the world stage than Hillary. Domestically he would do fine but on the world stage he would struggle. You guys have a difficult decision to make, make sure you research all aspects of what these 3 people stand for and make the best choice for the US and the world. Do not rely on the media to make your decision they lie and makeup the stories that will sell the best.

I am completely jaded about politics and racism, and sexism. Living in NY has not helped my cynicism, given the latest behavior by the Governor’s past and present) I am thinking that if Obama wins the Democratic nomination, many people will vote McCain (in those republican strongholds). Obama could win if the 18-35 yr old’s (all races) get out and vote. Don’t know if I believe that these people are related, or that it matters if they are.

I don’t see how he would struggle on the world stage. He is an articulate and well educated man. Also with as much ‘credible’ experience as Sen Clinton (if you discount her First Lady days), because the Presidency wasn’t her experience. It was her husbands.
But seriously this report is so old, and I can’t believe that even CNN covered it yesterday. However they didn’t see fit to cover Angie’s Op’ed in the Washington Post.
We need to unite and make sure the Republicans don’t win again…my first thouight was that Hillary & Obama could team up after the DNC; but I know they’ve both talked with John Edwards. If we play our cards right, the Dems could have the white house for the next 24 years!!! On the world stage, who could be worse than GWB? Any of the Dems look far better to the world community than his nonsense.

Alayna: It’s too bad you are spreading rumors. Maybe when you grow up you will understand how to separate rumors from facts.
***Ladies*** (and any gentlemen out there), I think this brouhaha over Obama/Clinton/McCain/electoral politics is out of place here in Pittwatch. What unites us is our fandom for Angelina & Brad. This is what we should focus on.
Not that I’m against politics – I’ve been an activist since the 1970s. Personally, my husband & I were voting for John Edwards until he dropped out. But I think the cult comment was irresponsible & out-of-line, especially stated as fact and not as opinion.
Further fights over politics (or religion for that matter) will destroy our happy little community since we come from different backgrounds, opinions and beliefs.
Please, let’s get back to what’s important here – the Jolie-Pitts. They’re the only thing we can safely say each & everyone of us agree on.
Sherry’s post on this topic had a link to this explanatory article, but maybe you missed it. ‘ I’m posting some excerpts that I think will put this in context – this kind of ‘relations’ thing pops up once in a while, and is fascinating to us who like to play 6 Degrees of Separation. But as my husband says, this kind of thing is all, um, relative – we all share DNA with Genghis Khan, Julius Caesar, and the original Homo Sapiens, Lucy. No big deal when these connections are made.

BOSTON – This could make for one odd family reunion: Barack Obama is a distant cousin of actor Brad Pitt, and Hillary Rodham Clinton is related to Pitt’s girlfriend, Angelina Jolie.
Researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society found some remarkable family connections for the three presidential candidates — Democratic rivals Obama and Clinton, and Republican John McCain.
Clinton, who is of French-Canadian descent on her mother’s side, is also a distant cousin of singers Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette. Obama, the son of a white woman from Kansas and a black man from Kenya, can call six U.S. presidents, including George W. Bush, his cousins. McCain is a sixth cousin of first lady Laura Bush.
Genealogist Christopher Child said that while the candidates often focus on pointing out differences between them, their ancestry shows they are more alike than they think.
“It shows that lots of different people can be related, people you wouldn’t necessarily expect,” Child said.
Obama has a prolific presidential lineage that features Democrats and Republicans. His distant cousins include President George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman and James Madison. Other Obama cousins include Vice President Dick Cheney, British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill and Civil War General Robert E. Lee.
Obama often jokes about his cousin Cheney at campaign appearances.
Child has spent the last three years tracing the candidates’ genealogy.
Clinton’s distant cousins include beatnik author Jack Kerouac and Camilla Parker-Bowles, wife of Prince Charles of England.
McCain’s ancestry was more difficult to trace because records on his relatives were not as complete as records for the families of Obama and Clinton, Child said.
Obama and President Bush are 10th cousins, once removed, linked by Samuel Hinkley of Cape Cod, who died in 1662.
Pitt and Obama are ninth cousins, linked by Edwin Hickman, who died in Virginia in 1769.
Clinton and Jolie are ninth cousins, twice removed, both related to Jean Cusson who died in St. Sulpice, Quebec, in 1718.
I believe all discussion is good. If we do have a happy little community can we not discuss these topics thoughtfully and considerately. I have heard that even Brad and AJ have huge political fights, but they always makeup. That is what is great about the western civilization, we can all agree to disagree.
Ligaya – good to have your voice back in the fold. We are enjoying what the JP’s engage in every day – an awareness of the world, and this election is extremely important. I was thinking overnight about how many, many people in this country forget about healthy discussion, and go for the attack mode – even if it’s about entertainment! Look at the ongoing “this vs. that” or the war on (fill in the blank). It’s time for us to learn to state our positions without being mean spirited, and to learn from each other in a healthy way…that is to sharpen each other without sticking it to the speaker. There are ways to correct someone without insulting their person, and we all need to practice that way of being to have a community.

I just wonder what will happen when we want to weigh in on abortion/reproductive choice, right wing fundamentalist Christians, Muslim ter***ists (not that all Muslims are t****rists or that all te****ists are Muslims), gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender rights, homeschooling, torture/rendition/stop-loss, supporting the troops, immediate withdrawal from Iraq/Afghanistan, withdrawing from the Geneva Convention, withdrawing from the UN, gun control, restoring our civil rights, universal health care, raising taxes, global warming, endangered species list, oil drilling in national parks, using public taxes for private & religious schools, etc., etc., etc.
I guess at least it would be a difference from talking about: Angelina’s adoption addiction, her freakish veins & plastic surgery, anorexia, feeding her kids junk, endangering her baby(ies) by flying while pregnant, her endless feverish search for publicity from her UN work & philanthropy (but we know it’s all because she’s a fame***re), getting ghostwriters to write her Washington Post & Economist op-eds, as well as her presentations at the World Economic Forum & the Council on Foreign Relations, her controlling persona and making poor Brad do all the chidraising work – especially their meals & changing their diapers, being a temperamental diva and throwing wine in his face, her freakish past of cutting, Goth, sex/blood/knives, studying to be a mortician, incest with her brother, cruelty to her father. All the world knows dark Angelina as the slut who stole Brad from his shining righteous princess soulmate, Jennifer. She stole Brad’s babies from Jennifer too, plus the award-winning role of A Mighty Heart’s Mariane.

The operative word here is “IF” this is practised in the world – which it is obviously not – agreeing to disagree means debate (which is coming from an informed opinion). The example of our pitiful media sources is to shout the loudest in order to dominate, and be most outrageous to gain the most attention. My idea is to treat each other with respect, and to inform ourselves in order to be productive. How many are making time to raise the bar? Let’s give a higher degree to discussion (which has been moderated beautifully by Sherry so far – thanks) and live the example of AJ & BP to ignore the bull**** as there is so much of it. Great days for those who awaken to this in these times – lots of opportunity to grow and manifest what we ask.
