I can’t separate the name, the names’s meaning, and the child. Before I was reminded that Zahara meant shining flower (maybe blossoming flower is another interpretation), I just took a cue from Zahara’s personality & my imagination. Zahara did make me think of the Sahara Desert, and Z is a fierce & joyful little girl. I imagined her a fierce leader of her nomadic tribe in the desert – intelligent, fearless, skilrled in tactics, weapons & martial arts, riding camels & horses, flying planes & helicopters. Also a healer, linguist, negotiator/peacekeeper. Very much like her mother (and a little like Lawrence of Arabia & Dr. Zhivago). The JP kids names in the order I like most: Zahara, Mad, Pax, Shi, Vivi, Knox.

Parents usually run through a whole litany of names and strike a chore with the one that best fix. So I'm not going to second guess them.

More thoughts on the kids' names:

Victoria:

I agree with your take on Shiloh and Vivienne completely.

("Shiloh (never knew that beautiful name before) and Vivienne (a truly elegant, stylish and classy name I´ve always loved).")

I think Mad, Pax and Knox are all cute, funky, not too serious, original boys' names. I lived in France for a while and it was really in vogue to give your kid a crazy cartoonish name that nobody had. Like "Tintin" (from the well known comic French comic book); Ulyses (!); Otto etc etc. I kind of got used to the idea and came to think it was pretty cute and cool. (Though my favorite boy's name is Diego -- very sexy.)

What I like about these kinds of names for guys is that it makes them sound like they don't take themselves too seriously.

My little brother is called Max(well)- reminds me a bit of Mad(dox). Well, I can say one thing: It works FAB for him. It's a name not that many people have, it stands out, it sounds cool, masculine, original and sexy. I know he likes having that name a lot.

Zaraha - yeah I like the short a lot, Z. But I do find that Zaraha is not as elegant or fine sounding as Shiloh and Vivienne. But fortunately it can be shortened to Z !

NOT surprised at all. Brad is so like fine wine.

Am most amused that most of those who expressed dislike for Angie on there, admit to "loving" Brad very much. :LOL

So all the name calling is about the "green eyed" monster and not necessarily the truth.

I wanted to remind myself of what the kids’ names meant. Linda Rosenkrantz, co-author of The Baby Name Bible. http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2007-03-15-jolie-kids-names_N.htm

•Maddox Chivan, 5: Cambodian-born son named Rath Vibol. Maddox is a Celtic or Welsh name meaning "beneficent," but Chivan [I THOUGHT I READ THAT THIS WAS A CAMBODIAN WORD.] has no origin, says Rosenkrantz. "It's a name that certainly has not been used in the last century." LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HIS NICKNAME MAD.

•Pax Thien, 3: changed from Pham Quang Sang, and his new name means "peaceful sky" in two languages. Pax means "peace" in Latin; Thien is Vietnamese for "sky." Rosenkrantz says Pax is a rarely used moniker, though its Spanish version (Paz) is much more common.

•Zahara Marley, 2: Born Tena Adam, Zahara means "flower" in Swahili and "to shine" in Hebrew. Marley comes from reggae singer Bob Marley, a name Rosenkrantz says is popular for both boys and girls. LOVE HER NICKNAME "Z."

•Shiloh Nouvel, 10 months: Of Hebrew origin, Shiloh means "peaceful one," and Rosenkrantz says it is a name that's catching on for both sexes. The middle name is a homage to Jean Nouvel, a famous French architect who is among Pitt's favorites.

ligaya, read your post - thanx for alerting me, I would have never gone back to that thread anymore!

Kari, I always felt the same about the name Zahara. It lacks the originality of the other names, but my top names really are Shiloh (never knew that beautiful name before) and Vivienne (a truly elegant, stylish and classy name I´ve always loved). Knox I´m not too keen about - sounds a bit like knock knock, but of course it´s their choice, not mine!! :-) )
