Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie want to crack down on Blood Diamonds

Once again Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are taking a stance for a cause that I personally believe in whole-heartedly. The couple has given use of their names in accordance with an attempted ban on diamonds from Zimbabwe.

Known as “Blood Diamonds” or “Feud Diamonds”, the gems are exactly what you’d expect from the name – precious stones obtained courtesy of a trail of blood-shed. I try to keep my political opinions in a separate compartment of my life, but I am very much against the unethical diamond trade – so much so that my own ring is not a real diamond because I have no interest in contributing. Obviously, you can get ethically obtained diamonds fairly easily with some simple research and information, but I just chose not to. Anyway. The fact that Brad and Angelina are endorsing a stop to the blood diamond trade fills me with so much joy.

Considering some of the most common victims of this particular form of diamond trade are children, it’s not much of a surprise that Brad and Angelina would stand together against it.

Thanks JM! I don’t know how to put it but she looks so…refreshed. Maybe she’s finally getting some rest. I love that she makes time for the things she’s passionate about.

I have been saying for a couple of years now that Brad and Angie together are a very Powerful Couple. I think they will involve themselves in many different causes. They will lend their name where they see injustice. I am proud to be a fan and follower of them.

Thanks, JM. The JPs probably do a ton of things we don’t know about. This is a good rebuttal to those clowns who say “yah, they give a lot of money and do good, but only for publicity.”

Can’t remember when, but recently the JPs gave $1-2 million(?) to Human Rights Watch specifically for issues dealing with Zimnbabwe & Myanmar, right? Anyone remember the details?

This is why I am such a fan of theirs! They not only give money and time, but they are willing to lend their names to worthy causes.

Thanks JM for the link. How nice of Angie to visit those patients!

Ligaya I missed your posts! I enjoy reading them and your Hollywood insider’s stories!

I am so proud of Angie & Brad because of the way they are as a couple and because of all the causes they fight for. God bless them. Thank you, Sherry.

Patricia – I have seen the film and I didn’t like it much, but Angie is great in it as always. To be honest I watched it because she was in it. :) It is her second major movie.

Totally agree with this. My engagement ring is a lab diamond, 100% pure carbon. Better than you could ever mine from the Earth, and I went for it not just because it was less expensive because it was not actually cheap, but because I wanted to feel rest assured that no foul deeds were attached to it.

    …’Not just a pretty face’

Earlier this month, U.N. goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie was in Washington, D.C., to observe World Refugee Day sponsored by the United Nations refugee agency. She spoke of her visits to refugee camps in Tanzania and Pakistan.

Congress has the power of the purse and appropriates funding for the U.N. and other relief efforts.

US Rep AARON SCHOCK (US Congress) was among only a handful of congressmen invited to an event on the rooftop of the Newseum featuring the actress. He said he spoke with Jolie for 10 to 15 minutes about how she got involved with the refugees and what Congress can do to help. She told him her mother was from Illinois and invited him to visit a refugee camp.

“She is a beautiful woman and also very smart. She knew the issues related to the refugee camp; she’s not just a pretty face on the issue,” Schock said.

“She did a good job articulating how important the U.S. role is in the U.N.’s efforts on refugees.” (K.M.)

……ALBERTEEN ANDERSON, the agency’s director of Film and Special Events, said,

“Angelina Jolie was in for ‘Salt’ a few weeks ago, and she was really down-to-earth. You have other stars who are just so nasty to T.A. employees.”

Neer, that link didn’t work for me. This one did: http://www.pjstar.com/homepage/x768070068/Word-on-the-Street-Schock-defends-hypocrisy. Hubby & his best friends are born bred Peorians so it’s interesting that it was carried in the local paper.

Thanks, Lili May. :-) Ryan’s not a Hollywood insider, though – he’s an indie outsider. ;-)

Do you like diamonds, but not the blood bath that is created because of them, here is your choice then, A Polar Bear Diamond. Polar Bear diamonds are mined right here in Canada in the North West Territories, by Canadians every diamond has a Polar Bear laser engraved in its side. I have always wanted one of these and I don’t even like diamonds. Check it out.

sherry, i love this article because since i saw the movie ‘blood diamond” (and too a documentary about it) i don’t want to wear some diamonds: my boyfriend ask me: what kind of engagement ring would you like to have and i said to him: one without diamonds, because you know, you never know in wich conditions the diamonds were produce…

it’s great that brad and angie are making that kind of thing one more time, they are such great people!

The major problem with blood diamond’s is not really the ones you buy to wear that only totals around 10% of mind diamonds. Its the industrially used diamonds that cause the biggest problem, these are the ones that are used on saw blades, and in factories etc….
