First Angelina Jolie played Christine Collins and took on an entire corrupt police force in Changeling. Now Brad Pitt and Plan B are gearing up to take on a fake cop.
Brad and Plan B are working with a team of writers to develop a biopic based on the true story of Linda Trest, a journalist in Missouri who exposed a phony cop who was supposedly cleaning up a small town’s drug problems – except that he was no longer a member of law enforcement by then.
The story sounds like it could be interesting – there’s always something fun about watching a regular parson beat the system!
It’s still very much in pre-production so at the moment there’s certainly no word on casting. For some reason I immediately pictured Julia Roberts but it might be a little too much like Erin Brokovich in that case. Time will tell!

Brad Pitt is a handsome man!!!
I’m not clear – is the phony cop a good guy or bad guy?
(Got an email from my sister-in-law last weekend. She has a brilliant idea that we adopted, and I’m passing it on in case you might like it too:
Hi Family,
Lots of non-profits are going to be hurt this year because donors don’t have much to donate! So, instead of buying a Christmas gift for us, maybe you’ll consider a small donation to one of the following. You get a tax write off, you can do it online by pushing a button, and there’s nothing to wrap or send. Perfect!
Thanks in advance!!
Love,
Hubby & Ligaya

Sherry, the NYT negative is getting bigger and bigger. Lots of people outraged by it. People M issued a denunciation. Why did you choose not to post my comment about it?

Funny thing about the NYT article … Everyone else is going crazy about it (either for it or against it), but the JPs have not issued a statement regarding it. And they shouldn’t have to. The world continues to move forward for them. Good for them.
Someone else mentioned that the article was in the business section of the NY Times … seems very odd and suspect.
It’s in the Business Section because it’s supposed to be an analysis about media as a business – in particular, Angelina’s manipulation of People (and what was Brad doing all the time this was happening?). This is the same section that carried an under-researched article on states subsidizing the film industry. It implied Brad pocketed or personally benefited from $22-27 million of Louisiana taxpayers’ money in rebates for CCBB. I wrote them a scathing letter to editor then, and also posted on jezebel which had blithely repeated the misinformation.
Remember swiftboating in the 2004 election? I go for the Obama approach in this one – whenever a lie came out, his campaign exposed it swiftly and forcefully. They never let it take hold. Kerry went for the high road above the fray, and the Big Lie told over and over again became his narrative. Kerry, who really had been a Vietnam hero lost to a son who used his father’s privilege to evade service. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” – Joseph Goebbels
The people who have the most to lose in this are all the people Angelina and Brad are helping. This is one case where I think Brad and Trevor should defend the JP philosophy about philanthropy and the Jolie-Pitt Foundation vigorously. And they shouldn’t be shy about getting their comrades-in-arms to step into the breach with them either Colin Powell, Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, UNHCR, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, all of them. This isn’t about Angie personally, per se, or Brad. (And since she’s the one being accused, she’s less effective in its defense.
UNDER MOD:

I posted this on the article’s comments board at NYTimes (also sent shorter version as letter to editor) and posted a version of it at Huffington Post:
Contrary to the Times’ reporter’s (I hesitate to use the term journalist) belief, the United Nations High Commission on Refugees does not schedule field missions to Pakistan, Afghanistan or anywhere else to accommodate a celebrity’s publicity needs. Did Ms./Mr. Barnes even try to confirm with the UNHCR whether Ms. Angelina Jolie in fact initiated either trip?
There are a lot of assertions made and very little to back them up, reliance on only a single source or unnamed sources not independently verified, in a shoddily reported but carefully crafted hit piece against Ms. Jolie. Since when has the New York Times considered a former editor-in-chief of tabloid rags Star and Us Weekly a reliable source? You didn’t even identify the magazines as tabloids well known for inventing stories out of thin air, and you certainly didn’t reveal the conflict of interest between Ms. Fuller in her former capacity as EIC of these rags and tabloid target/subject Jolie.
And certainly, as the article even said, “[w]hile all celebrities seek to manipulate their public images to one degree or another [otherwise known as spin – engaged in by all public figures includimg politicians, CEOs, and even Big Media],” why single out Ms. Jolie – other than that she’s a cash cow for circulation and internet traffic? Why not name some names and give some examples? The least the Times could do is one other article examining the rest of this phenomena, a separate article for each isn’t necessary .
Ligaya, regarding the article being in the business section, thanks for clarifying that.
I agree with what you posted on Huff Post.
The film is an interesting concept. I do wander who will be in the lead?
Look forward to this story. Wonder if there is a book that they would base the film on?
Can someone please post a link for me where People mag refuted the charges?
Children First, I found it on JJ. It didn’t mention a source. I posted it in the “NY Times” thread. I went to people.com and the statement wasn’t there. I don’t know if they have another website. I haven’t tried googling it yet, so you might try that.
It doesnt matter what Angelina does..the media always paint this nasty picture of her. I guess ugly stories are better than nice ones to them. Or maybe because it sells. I find the media to be very bias at times. And I dont understand why..just like the recent presidential election. You dont hear barely anything about all the good that Senator Mcclain or his wife have done. Obama did what?….nothing but yet they paint him to be this great god like of a man. No disrespect..but thats how I see it. I always believe that the one that does the action..speak louder than words. Just like Angelina and Jennifer Aniston..Jen is good at talking…Angelina..tends to be less conversational..instead focus on doing things…people choose to hear instead of see. People can talk good but its hard to live up to those words….One day American will see…just this about the new President and will also see the same for Angelina. Hopefully…
Apparently it was an email sent out to the appropriate outlets and someone leaked it.
I think Jossip was first to report of the leaks…
The phony cop story (on which I assume this is based) aired on 60 Minutes about two weeks ago. It was actually pretty interesting. Given that Brad Pitt seems to have a pretty good bead on what’s happening in the world, I’m not surprised he saw this and thought to bring it to production with Plan B.

Do you have a link to the story?
Thanks Ligaya, I’ll try that. Thanks BlessBrangelina as well. I hope I can find it….curious to see just how they “played/spun” it.
