Brad Pitt on the Today Show

Brad PItt on The Today Show

This morning Brad Pitt appeared with Ann Curry on The Today Show to talk about his work to help rebuild the Ninth Ward of New Orleans.

He acknowledges that the current project is a good start, but only a start. He told Ann:

“It doesn’t feel like much of a victory when you look at the overall problem here. Katrina was a manmade disaster. The misconception is that it was nature. But this is manmade — decades and decades of erroneous engineering moves and really, really bad, bad irresponsible moves that I believe government has a responsibility to make right.”

It was shortly after Brad and Angelina bought a home in the French Quarter that Brad began working with Global Green USA, creating environmentally friendly, energy efficient and affordable homes in New Orleans, focusing on the extremely hard-hit Ninth Ward.

Brad said this about Ninth Ward:

“I care very much for the area. I met a 60-year-old man when I first arrived here to look into this. He said, ‘I did everything right. I got a job. I bought a home. I raised my kids in that home. They did the same. Now, one kid’s in Atlanta, another one’s in Houston. We’re all split apart and we’ve been wiped out. What do I do?’

He’s right. That’s unacceptable.

Matt Lauer and Ann Curry both commented on Brad’s low-key unintentional celebrity status. Ann said that dressed in his tweed hat, a t-shirt, and khaki work pants, not to mention a whole lot of stubble, Brad “looked like anything but a celebrity [...] He’s a humble man, and it’s clear to me, very passionate about this.” Matt added “He doesn’t seek out the publicity.”

Brad also made a point about FEMA’s efforts – mentioning that the FEMA-provided trailers which have been used as long-term temporary housing for those who lost everything to Katrina are full of formaldehyde, that they are poisoning the survivors who are forced to live in them. It’s part of the reason he’s so keen to push the Global Green project, trying to provide safe and affordable housing to those who need it as quickly as possible, using environmentally sound materials that are resistant to termite, mold, and which incorporate systems such as solar panels and rainwater cisterns to reduce the reliance on municipal water.

BlessBrangelina, I think you’re right. They were fiming (12-18 hours a day filming not uncommon), in Pune, India, plus dodging the paps, plus spending time with their kids, yet each of them took time to do humanitarian work – Brad with Habitat for Humanity, and Angelina meeting with Indian officials about refugees. Angelina has often combined UN Goodwill Ambassador duties with her filming schedule.

I was at JJ’s site & one fan said, she saw Ange & Kids at NY City Museum today, I don’t know how reliable she is, is they did go there, they should have some pictures tomorrow.

DuDu, when are those pictures of Ange & Mad taken?

  5. By irma

I can’t blame Ange to lay low for a while, papz are endangering everyone specially the Jolie-Pitt’s. I really wanted them to stay somewhere in Europe for their family vacation, they can’t go out in public in the US without being haunted. It’s hard for me not to see their photos everyday but knowing they are safe & together as a family that’s fine with me. Their safety first. I hope, they will have some photos in their dinner gala on Saturday at the Hamptons. How long Brad will be shooting Burn After Reading in NY?

    Janine;
    that’s a great read, thanks.

I think that reporter is a very brave woman! It amazes me that the police did not caution any paps for running all those red lights. :(

    Well said everyone!

Ligaya, I think it was India and he spent two days. It was reported that he returned the following day. I believe it was at the end of that that he took pictures of the old temple!

I agree with Neela. I admire that they are young especially Angelina. Not that many people in their demographic are as caring, celebrity or not. So all the celebrities that are doing good works are going to get an bit of extra praise from fans. Besides, they (especially the JP’s) get much more criticism, for whatever they do, good or bad. ( the hate spewed on other sites and tabloids for this couple is stunning!)

Cher, did you know that Brad worked a full day with Pres. Carter recently while he was in the middle of filming and other responsibilities? I’m having a senior moment about the location, but it might have been Louisiana. Brad went there to bring the press there to cover HFH. He didn’t speak a word to the press, just to his co-workers.

I don’t think it’s useful to pit (no pun intended) helping persons & individuals against each other. No one single person/organization can solve everthing. Recognition of one project doesn’t take away from another one. Helping other countries is equally good as helping our own. Same thing with international and U.S. adoptions.

Of course, HFH has been around for a long time and they’ve accomplished a lot all over the world, and their work has been recognized. The Global Green Project also deserves recognition because it’s a demonstration project to show how homes can be built ecologically to benefit the families who live there, as well as the environment. And the families will save money on their utilities to boot.

also, cher, this is a fan site for the jolie-pitts. so, expect to read a slew of praises and positive comments about jolie and pitt and for most of their projects. it’s really not blind praise when the people we admire aren’t just talking the talk, but also walking the walk. they’re utilizing their celebrity status in the best and most positive way they can.

  15. By Neela

cher, it could be worse. pitt could just be sitting at home, doing nothing. not undermining the efforts of other people who have done a lot more for the community in new orleans, but compared to most other people, at least pitt is bringing some attention to what needs to be done there because he does have the celebrity status. pitt does deserve some praise because he is taking action than most of us on here.

Good morning, As usual, I checked any news or photos of the Jolie-Pitt’s, nothing new so I will head out for an errand since I’m off today at work & hopefully, when I come back I will have news to read about them. I watched the today show an interview of Ann Curry part 2 of Brad Pitt, they talked mostly about the eco-housing & how it will save a lot of money for the people of New Orleans. Pitt’s project is very new compared to Habitat so you can’t compare Green project to Habitat, we should all be proud that someone on his caliber wants to help the Katrina victims & so is Ange, the world will be better if more Brad & Ange will do the same thing. Don’t you agree? God bless them.

  17. By Mercy

I admire Brad for the person he is now. I love him, Angie and the kids. I never cease to be amazed by them. Every day, when I turn on my computer, and before starting to work, the first thing I’ll do is to look for any news and photos about them. And if there are some photos or news about them, it really make my day. I pray that this couple will stay together forever and maintain their love for each other and always be happy with their kids.

It is amazing sometimes how people just praise certain people for things they do in life and totally ignore the real ones doing most of the work. I am originally from New Orleans and I know alot about what is going on down there. Yes, Pitt’s project is helping some, but the organization habitat for humanity has built more homes in New Orleans than Pitt could even realize. They have also been there since the beginning in August of 2005. Before you just blindly praise someone for their humanity work you really need to find out what is really going on and what the final outcome of that work will produce.

Brad and Angie found their purpose and they compliment each others goals and perspective. I thought also that Brad was more shallow and a Hollywood snob fashionista even when he was with Gwen. I can’t believe the transformation. This must be just inside of him that had blossomed when he met Angie. Thank you, thank you Sherry.

I love Brad and Angie, and I know its probably not right, but I miss seeing the children. I love their little faces.
