Here’s an acting team-up that I’m really excited about! According to various entertainment sources, Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman have signed on to do a new movie together. The film, Important Artifacts will be an adaptation of the novel Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion, and Jewelry (whew, that title’s a mouthful!).
Paramount is the company that won the bid to develop the story into a romantic comedy. Variety has a bit of background as to what the book is about:
The book takes the form of Sotheby’s-like estate auction catalog, with 325 entries and photographs depicting items that reveal the private moments and the rise and fall of a four-year relationship between the fictitious couple Hal Morris (a 40ish photographer) and Lenore Doolan, (a New York Times food columnist in her late 20s).
The project will be developed as a romantic comedy, with Pitt to play Morris, and Portman to play Doolan.
Apparently it was Natalie who first approached Brad with the book and her interest in turning it into a film. I love when actors find something they want to do and set out to get it done instead of just waiting for someone to contact them first.
Natalie Portman is a fantastic actress, I have always liked her very much. And a romantic comedy is not exactly the norm for Brad so I think it could be really interesting to see this play out.
What do you think of the story?

Sounds interesting, almost like Brad would be playing himself (photographer). I wonder this would keep them in the states, and N.Y. area.
when is this new movie going to film?
even variety, who are reporting this news, say brad is also signed up for moneyball and lost city of Z. so this rom-com might not even start filming till next year IMO.
also portman is supposed to be being in the new THOR film, so we’ll have to wait and see what brad says at cannes, when some-one asks brad what his next film will definitely be.
I am not sure how the artifacts all fit in, but could be interesting. Does anyone know when this will take place? I think Brad is supposed to do The Lost City of Z this summer. I know that schedules and casting changes occur all the time in the movie business. I would assume Natalie Portman has other projects to do first, as well.
Very interesting … especially as I get ready to sell my stuff for a move to Europe. The memories behind your things make them hard to let go.
Of course, my stuff is more CraigList then Sothebys-like estate sale …
i don’t have any idea what’s the story of the book but this seems to be an interesting one. is this comedy? i love Natalie, i think she’s pretty and smart and a good actress.
dhc, i know plan B is going to produce The Lost City of Z. he’s not gonna star in it, or is he?
dhc – Oh definitely, the scheduling would probably be quite far from now. From the sounds of things, I don’t think they even have a script yet, just the project idea and a studio’s backing. It could be quite awhile before things get underway, leaving both of them plenty of time to squeeze in all their current commitments.
This is completely off topic but my thoughts go out to Natasha Richardson’s family. I just read that she has passed away after her fall. It’s so incredibly sad, especially since the fall didn’t appear serious and she seemed to be fine and in good spirits afterwards.

Hi Sherry: That’s a long title. Can we simply call it IA in posts? Otherwise, it would be IAPPCLDHMIBSFJ, and that without the articles and conjunctions!
I think Angie and Brad are working like demons now so they can simply kick back and enjoy life with their kids as they grow older. And, of course, play with all the grandkids.
Rest in Peace beloved Natasha. We love you so much and will miss your smile and grace. We wish Liam and the boys our love and heartfelt condolences.
This movie could be interesting, and Natalie Portman is also a very good actress.
I am so saddened by Natasha Richardson’s death. She was a beautiful, classy and talented actress. My prayers and heartfelt condolences go to Liam, their children and the rest of their family.
My prayers go out to the family of Natasha Richardson. How sad for all her family, especially for Liam, her mother Vanessa and her two sons. How sad. You never know what’s coming for you (CCOBB). How very sad.
It’s amazing how the death of a complete stranger can affect you. I have been thinking about Natasha Richardson all day, and her family. What a freak accident and such a short life for someone who clearly had so much to live for. It’s very sad. Those poor young boys. I am not sure anyone really recovers from losing their mother as a child, but I am sure their father will do all he can in spite of his own sorrow.
Angela-It seems trivial given the above discussion, but I do believe the current report is that Brad will star in The Lost City of Z, but we all know things can change and reports can be invalid. I hope he stars in it, though, it sounds right for him. I think the only romantic comedy Brad has done before was The Mexican. I didn’t dislike it, but it was not a favorite of mine. Maybe this next one with Natalie Portman will be better. I am curious enough to read the book when I can find it.
I, too, feel awful for the family of Natasha Richardson. When I first saw the articles yesterday about her falling and being hospitalized with a severe brain injury, I immeditly got a sinking feeling.
Ordinarily I tend to be very optimistic, but this time I just couldn’t be. I knew I had to be realistic, and that the prognosis for most people who have severe brain injuries is very grim.
Somehow I just knew that when I checked in at PEOPLE and other sites today, I would find the news that she had died. I hoped and prayed that I would be proven wrong…and was saddened to find out that I wasn’t (proven wrong, I mean).
This just goes to show that you should always wear a helmet when skiing (I’m not in any way complaining about the fact that Natasha didn’t. Obviously now is not the time or place to do that. Also, I’m referring to downhill skiing here. Helmets probably aren’t as neccesary when you’re cross country skiing.)! I am very glad that Brad and Mad wore helmets when they went snowboarding on the J-P skii vacation last year (epsecially since snowboarding can be even more dangerous than skiing!).
Getting back on topic….I’m happy for Brad, but at the same time, I’m a bit worried, too. Why, you ask? Because I’m afraid the tabs are probably going to try to start rumors that Brad and Natalie are having an affair on the set (especially since Natalie is single at the moment).
I know Brad and Angie ignore the tabs, but I still h8te when they try to pair them up with their costars or write rubbish like Angie catching Brad cheating on her with the nanny.
My heart-felt condolences to the Richardson family. She will be missed. A very good actress.
No matter what Brad and Angie do, the tabs will always find a way to try to break them up. I read about Nastasha accident. I didn’t know she was the daughter of Vanessa Redgrave. I love her in The Parent Trap.
Lucy- Unfourtnately, I agree. The tabs will indeed always find a way to break them up. Speaking of which, I forgot to mention in my last post that one of the main reasons it makes me so mad when the tabs report about them breaking up is the kids.
By that I mean, how heartless of the tabs (and some of the h8ters among the general public) to want those six kids to have their family split up! Why would anyone ever wish that on a kid (unless there were extreme circumstances, such as abuse or the parents h8ting each other so much that they were make life miserable for the kids by fighting and such all the time)?!
UNDER MOD- Lucy, I agree….
I’m very happy that Brad is approaching important projecys in life and work. Him and Angie are a real assorted couple and are growing together their family.
With regards to Natasha I feel really sorry especially thinking that if she had a helmet maybe things would have turned out differently. In Italy the helmet is compylsory till 14 years of age but a lot of adults now use it, but to think she was taking lessons and was on an easy ski lane it seems incredible. That’s life man! RIP Natasha.
Sounds like an interesting movie. Can´t wait to see Brad and Natalie together in this movie. Naturally the rags will start their are they/aren´t they speculation immediately but there is only one woman who Brad truly loves and that´s Angie. BTW. My deepest condolences to Liam Neeson and his two sons. I was really shocked to find out that Natasha Richardson had passed away. She was a great actress. I can only imagine how Liam and the boys are feeling right now. They all are grief-stricken right now. No matter how old you are or in what way you lose your parents it´s always hard. I lost my mum when I was 24 but it was still horrible. But I think that the Neeson boys will be just fine. They have their dad to take care of them. I´m sure Angie can relate to the whole family since it´s such a short time since her own mum Marcheline Bertrand dies early 2007.RIP Natasha! We´ll miss you!
i’m happy to know that brad’ll do this movie. did he already play in a romantic comedy (except the mexican)?
i like nathalie too, she is a smart girl!
RIP Natasha
The idea of Natalie Portman & Brad Pitt making a movie together sounds great. Both of them are serious with their craft and are known to make good movies individually. I don’t mind seeing Brad in a romantic comedy for a change, to break the monotony of doing drama in succession. He just wanted maybe to show another side of him.
.
I also like Natalie. I find her beautiful although not really stunning. When she acts, she’s effective.
She seems a very smart & good person too. Her answers in her interviews are not the usual Hollywood celebs’ ramarks. We always learn something from her because she talks with sense just like Angelina Jolie. Angelina & Natalie are two of the very few celebs who give honest & smart interviews. That’s why they can be good friends if there’s an opportunity. I could just imagine their conversations will never get dull & empty as they can talk anything, everything under the sun. As the saying goes, great minds talk about ideas.
.
Also, Natalie likes Angelina. She even once said in an interview,
.
“…And there are people in my own profession I admire, who have done things and made substantial change, like Bono and Angelina Jolie. They are models for how you can meaningfully devote your life to causes. It’s not just lending your face. It’s giving yourself. A lot of people lack meaning in their lives, and that’s why getting active in issues like microfinance gives you such a center to your life”
I am loving Brad’s choice of projects and who he’s working with. He is truly having the time of his life – both professionally and personally.
It sounds more like a quirky comedy than the usual, run-of-the-mill rom-coms.
Natalie is a great actress, very well-spoken and very professional. I love her.
So sad about Natasha. To Liam and the boys I am so sorry. Heard one of her neighbors in NYC say that this woman had no ego, very down to earth. RIP Natasha.
This book sounds interesting. Brad I think has become a good comic actor, remember Burn after Reading and the praise he received.
Lucy, i loved her in Parent Trap too. this is a sad, tragic news. may she rest in peace.
OT: i’ve read in JJ that last night was the premiere of Ligaya’s son movie Sugar. Jessica Alba and Ryan Gosling attended the premiere. I was hoping to see some Ligaya RC.
Favorite Natasha Richardson movie Handmaiden’s Tale. Check it out. I also liked the remake of the parent trap that she was in. That was still when Lindsay Lohan was cute and a promising actress.
Every one should wear a helmet when skiing and boarding it will give you a chance, but doesn’t always save your life. In this case I don’t know if it would have saved her life it wasn’t like she hit her head on anything, I truly believe this was just one sad freaky accident.
My heart goes out to Liam Neeson, their 2 boys & their family in this hard time of great loss.
Brad probably will do The Lost City Of Z before starting that long title movie with Portman.I can’t even remember the title they should make it shorter. I will find the book & read it. God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
I am so sad to hear about Natasha, I cannot begin to imagine how her family must feel, wish them much comfort and peace.
I love Natalie Portman a lot, I remember her in the Professional she was so cute and V for Vendetta. I will just wait and see how this work out with my fav guy Brad.I don’t think Brad care what tabs say about him and his co-stars, if he did, then he would not work with women anymore, they are so crazy.
I forgot to mention in my post last night that The Parent Trap is one of my favorite movies (in fact, I own the DVD of it, as well as the DVD of the orignal Halley Mills version, which I also love!).
I was just a kid when it came out in theaters (in fact, I was around the same age as Hallie and Annie, the twins in the film!), and I loved all of the main actors and actress in it (Natasha, Lindsey, Dennis Quaid).
Somehow I have a feeling it’s going to be a little weird for me the next time I watch The Parent Trap, knowing that Natasha is no longer with us.
Getting back on topic, I, too, think Brad will do Lost City of Z before this movie. I don’t know all that much about how movies are made, but from the little I do know, it seems like most movies take awhile to go from conception (so to speak) to actual production and filming.
Oh, and speaking of Lost City of Z…I wonder if Zahara will hear the title somewhere and go, “Cool, daddy! You’re doing a movie with my name in it!”?
Hey Sherry, just something I found on the net today, Brad Pitt/Plan B is set to produce “The Night Manager”.
http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7014449409
Ligaya, Sugar was mentioned on Lainey’s blog today under Portman and Gosling scoop.
Can´t wait to see this movie! It´ll be interesting to see Brad and Natalie in the same movie. Naturally the rags will start speculating about a possible romance between Brad and Natalie immediately after the shooting begins. But there is only one woman Brad truly loves and that´s Angie. He wouldn´t jeopardize his relationship at any cost. He loves Angie and their children too much. Off the topic. I couldn´t believe when I read yesterday (March 19) that Natasha Richardson had poassed away after that tragic skiing accident. She was a great actress. My heartfelt condolences to Liam Neeson, their two sons and her mother Vanessa Redgrave. She died too young. She was same-aged as Brad – 45. This just shows how fragile life is. RIP Natasha!
I hope that the “Important Artifacts” with Brad and Natalie will come to fruition. It will be a very interesting film with those two in it!
I just love that Brad maybe doing another comedy – I have a feeling that he’s a natural at comedy – and bet this side of him comes into play bigtime when with his children. I agree with many of the points raised here, but especially how the media will hone-in on a romance angle between Brad & Nathalie- it makes me mad just to think about it . . . . as for natasha’s death; words cannot describe my sadness: a shining light just ‘went-out’ and I can only reitterate whats already been said: it’s all the more horrifying to be such a chance accident thing / how painful for her family; how very dreadful for them- I didnt know her but she certainly ‘touched me’.
Tim Gunn has only good words for Angelina Jolie every time.
He really admires AJ, that’s why he always expresses her admiration to her when he’s interviewed.

Who’s the best-dressed woman in Hollywood?
.
“There may be hordes of wonderfully dressed women in Hollywood, but we simply don’t see them, so my pick is colored by who’s in the tabloids frequently. My vote goes to Angelina Jolie. She always looks fabulous and sophisticated on the red carpet, but I respond best to her everyday attire. She understands all of the essentials for getting fashion right: silhouette, proportion and fit; occasion appropriateness; and age appropriateness. I adore her and I salute her!”
—TIM GUNN, chief executive officer of LCI, and Project Runway host
Does anyone know how many comedies Brad has done that have done well at the box office? The only romantic comedy I can recall was the “Mexican” that did not do well. M/Mrs Smith was a dark comedy that did well due to the main characters (Angie and Brad) and the rumored romance. “Burn”, Brad was not really the one in a romance. I can’t recall a lot of romantic comedies that he has done.
Funny,
On Dr. Phil yesterday they had the lady who arranges dates for millionaires. There was this girl who said that her idea of the perfect man is a combination of Brad Pitt and Shemar Moore. They combined pics of both actors to come out with one. I started laughing . All women still love Brad.
On Today show this morning they had pics from People of stars before they were famous. Guess who they had. Of course Angie and Brad. They said that Angie has always been beautiful. Whereas Brad although he maintained the handsome face, the hair styles were funny. They mentioned him looking like his girlfriend. You know who that is “GP”.
Funny how Angie and Brad are usually brought into many conversations.

You haven’t seen Brad do a lot of Romantic Comedies because he doesn’t see himself in that type of role. Despite his looks, he’s not all that keen to be considered a romantic leading man (he’s said so), comedy or otherwise. However, he loves off beat characters parts like in Kalifornia, Fight Club, snatch, 12 Monkeys and Burn after reading. He does have quite the comedic edge in films and in life, according to those who personally know him.
What the movies have done at the box office isn’t an indication of whether the movie was a good movie, even fans sometimes want to pigeon hole actors into certain roles. I’m glad he and Angelina has taken the position to do movies which appeals to THEM.
Anyway this AI movie is so far down the line Brad may not be the one to star in it, it just might be his production company’s vehicle.

Today show and People mag should have known better! But I guess h8ing on him outweighs telling the truth!
Brad was the bigger star when he and GP met on the set of Seven! Seven was GP’s first ever movie!
And GP had her hair cut to look like his. He’s style was for a movie, he was filming Seven Years in Tibet and was very blond.
I like the idea of “Artifacts” and Natalie is a good actress with sense on her side. But yes I agree with Jaye it’s possible he is only producing this, Variety is not always reliable.
Anyone remember them reporting that he was attached to do The Fighter with Aronofsky? What about the whole bruhahaha about walking away from State Of Play, neither of which were true!
BlessBrangelina- It sounds like TODAY maybe just showed the pictures from PEOPLE and that maybe they (TODAY) were the ones who described the pictures like that, rather than PEOPLE.
At any rate, PEOPLE hardly h8tes the Jolie-Pitts! In fact, it is very obvious to me that at least most of the staff at PEOPLE are big fans of Brad and Angie! Also, remember that PEOPLE has a really good relationship with the J-Ps, and seems to be the only Entertainment-type magazine that they trust (I say “Entertainment-type”, because obviusly they have trusted other magazines, such as Vogue, W, and Rolling Stone enough to grant them interviews).
I highly doubt the J-Ps would be giving exclusive photos of their babies to PEOPLE if they thought that PEOPLE h8ted on them!
Just because they go to them does not mean People has not shown h8 towards, they may not have been as obvious as the others but they have had their moments too.
Secondly both Brad and Angie have trusted magazines and newspapers that have out right h8ed on them; Vanity Fair, Vogue and NYT are a few examples.
The fact that they return to these outlets say more about Brad and Angie as people, than the trustworthiness of the outlet! Also if you have to lie down with snakes make sure that their venom won’t outright kill you, make you sick, but not kill you!
BlessBrangelina- I have read just about every PEOPLE article there has been from about July 2005 (when Angie adopted Z) to the present that there is, and I have never seen them being h8teful towards the J-Ps. I’ve never read VF or Vogue (except for exceprts of the interviews Angie and Brad have given them here at Pittwatch and other sites), so I won’t comment on them (I DO agree with you about the NY Times, though. The article they did about Angie this past Winter was h8teful and uncalled for).
As far as PEOPLE is concerned, however, I am actually always impressed with how well they write articles about the J-Ps, and the fact that, if some of the staff DO have negative opinions about Brad and Angie, they’re professional enough not to show those feelings in the articles.
For example, I really admired them last Fall when they reported on the interviews that first Jen (to Vogue and GQ) and then Brad (to Rolling Stone, the LA Times, and W) gave. Unlike the tabs and even some more respectable media outlets, they did not take sides. They kept it professional, and left whatever their personal opinions might be out of it.
UNDER MOD- BlessBrangelina, I have read just about every PEOPLE article about the J-Ps….
I love it! I want to see it.
I love Natalie Portman!!!!
