Brad Pitt to take a bite out of vampire trends

Brad Pitt and Plan B have purchased the rights to a vampire film and they’ll be teaming up with Summit Entertainment who are behind the Twilight movies. However, don’t expect any sparkling vamps in this one!

Brad Pitt

The film will be called Vlad and it follows the story of a younger Count Dracula, drawing in some of the historical truths of Vlad the Impaler. While I admit that the Twilight series is entertaining (I’ve read all four books and have seen the first movie so far), it’s nice to have a vampire movie on the horizon that will go back to the traditional vampire instead of the romantic lead.

Although Brad played an amazing vampire in Interview With the Vampire, he’s sticking with producing the film and won’t be starring in it. I wonder who they’ll get to play Vlad. Any suggestions as to who might be perfect for the role?

How come my comments always hit the moderation queue lately…? Has Wordpress’ Akismet been upgraded to Berlin Wall-status? :p

Anyway, good job on the site as always Sherry…

007 – I could not agree more about Alan Rickman, I wish he could indeed play the role. I love him as Snape in the HP movies! Also, I could just listen to him talk for hours. I wonder if he does audiobooks…

Well, if he’s going with a younger Vlad I think either Channing Tatum, Chris Pine, or Eric Etebari (Ian Nottingham in “Witchblade”) might fill the bill. However, if it turns out that age is not an issue, then I then Johnny Depp would ROCK the part.

Interview with a Vampire was an awesome movie in its time. But movies about Vampires has gotten more graphic, etc. I think it would be a comeback, so to speak, for Brad to do this movie, as well as produce it. Of course, depending on family time etc. It’s up to him after all.

Some fans have wrong perception. Vlad is not a vampire movie.

‘Sons of Anarchy’ star Charlie Hunnam talks about his screenplay for ‘Vlad’

CHARLIE HUNNAM: My hope when writing it was for the end result to be more Braveheart than 300, and I think that as it’s evolved, we’ve got a pretty good mixture of both. I labor a little bit more over the history than 300 did. I was really interested in the reality of how this man turned into the myth, and because of some of his behaviors, it’s actually very easy to weave that mythology in, in a true way.

Why are people still talking like Vlad will be about Vampires? It’s taken hold on other sites as well. The author Charlie Hunnam has already said his script is about the last campaign of Vlad the Impaler who was NOT a vampire. Because he was so bloodthrusty, as in war and the harsh punishment he meted out ( impaling) Bram Stoker used Vlad, who’s Romanian last name is DRACULA, to represent the vampire of his novel. I don’t see Pitt in the part; I’m sorry, but I can’t see him in a role where he is ruthless to this extent. I’m thinking of someone dark and menacing looking, oh yeah! lol Above all I hope the movie is true to his life.

I’m living in Romania and let me tell you that people here in general are disappointed with how hollywood has turned their historical hero: Vlad was a Prince! and a hero of their country! into a fictional character. Go Brad!!

    Victoria says:
I´m sorry, but how can you like “Vlad the Impaler”? How, as a child, can you be so fascinated by someone who impaled people, that you had every book on him? I am sorry, but I don´t get it. I have children myself, and if they were that fascinated by someone like Vlad the Impaler, I´d be seriously worried.

—There is nothing abnormal about this. Unless I am mistaken, Angelina is not going around impaling people.

Vlad Tepes was a Prince and hero to Romania and his tactics were no more brutal than those of the Ottoman Empire, Caligula, Nero, the Roman Empire, the Huns or any other historical war figure or leader. There are many angles to one story and his story is rather a fascinating one.

There are more myths associated to this man than actual truth. He was not a vampire. I hope Brad and company will provide a more balanced view of his life.

S h e r r y – Rickman has recorded Tomas Hardy’s “The Return of the Native”, if I’m not entirely mistaken. He could read the phonebook and I’d still listen! Such a voice!

On another note, glad to see others who’d like to see a film historically true to (what we know of) Vlad Dracula, nicknamed “Tepes” :)

On a whole, sounds like a very interesting project!
