Brad Pitt too much of a perfectionist to direct movies

I’m not sure how reliable this source is, but other than their recently revealed family trip to Kenya and Ethiopia, the Jolie-Pitt family has been pretty quiet and under the radar ever since they retreated to France for some peace and quiet (or as much peace and quiet as you can find with six kids!).

An article is claiming that Brad Pitt declared himself too much of a perfectionist and that it’s for that reason that he won’t direct a film. He said that because of his perfectionist nature it would just take up too much of his time and take him away from things that he truly loves and enjoys, like spending time with the kids.

I think that with all of his experience and his love of a good story that Brad would be an excellent director. He’s spent so much time in front of the cameras that he would be able to give good advice to actors on how to achieve the scene they want, and he would be able to put together a truly compelling story. However, it sounds like he’ll stick with telling the stories from the character’s point of view as an actor, and of course he does still help to being great tales to the screen in the capacity of a producer.

Whether it’s reliable or not (it could have come from snippets taken from the press junkets during all the Inglourious Basterds promotions), it’s an interesting topic to think about. I would personally love to see Brad direct a film for the reasons I mentioned above, but his reasons for choosing not to do so are perfectly valid.

If he changed his mind in the future, would you like to see a film directed by Brad Pitt, even if he wasn’t acting in it? I definitely would, just to see how he put it all together!

Sherry – I agree with you. I would love to see a movie directed by Brad. It wouldn´t mind if he wouldn´t act in it. It´s hard enough to direct a movie – not to mention acting in it too. Many directors – like Clint Eastwood and George Clooney – have done both (directed and acted in the same movie). But I doubt that Brad will never direct a movie. Like he has said himself he´s too much of a perfectionist to do it. And besides all that time the shooting of the movie takes is time away from his family. It doesn´t matter that he could bring them along but being a director means longer days than an actor´s working day is. But IF he chooses to do it he´ll sure wait until the children are older and don´t need him every minute of the day. Naturally they need their dad and mum always but the older they get the more self-sufficient and independent they get. Really happy about it that Brad, Angie and the children have been able to keep under the radar and are having a great time together as a family! God bless them always!

If he changed his mind and decided to direct a film, I’d definitely go to see that film. I believe that while watching a film, you understand the point of view of its director better than anything. But to be honest I prefer him in front of cameras more than behind them. BTW Sherry, Brad looks so good in the photo, especially his eyes.

Another thing (I promise last one) Sherry I have a young blog called All About Brad Pitt and I’d like to add Pitt Watch to my blogroll if you don’t mind. I’ve tried to post the link of ny blog but whenever I post it-or another link-, my comment doesn’t show up. I have the same problem when I want to be notified of follow-up comments via e-mail as well.
I’m waiting for your reply :)

The family was staying at Masai Mara National Park ?
Masai Mara is known for wildebeest(gnu)’s migrant. I have a book for it. I was a Tarzan in African jungle in my childhood dream. Those animals were my favorite friends in my dream.
Since they have variety of wild animals Jolie-Pitt children must have enjoyed the trip.

I can understand if Brad doesn’t feel the need to direct a film. Directing is a VERY different animal from acting and just because you are a good actor doesn’t automatically mean you can direct other actors. Brad is probably right, he’s too much of a perfectionist and would probably take hours to do a scene. I remember years ago producers used to complain loudly about Warren Beatty and his directorial attempts. Every movie he directed was over budget, over long, boring and a BOMB at the box office!!! Actors used to say he would re-do a two second scene a hundred times before he thought it was okay to print!! Eventually, Beatty couldn’t get a producer to fund a movie or an actor to act in one!! Maybe Brad thinks he would be the same way if he tried to direct!! Brad knows himself better than any of us know him so I say, stick to acting Brad and leave the directing to those who love to do it!!

i would definitely love to see Brad directing a movie. i’m sure it would be a big hit! :)
i don’t see any difference if your a perfectionist or not when it comes to directing. i think all of us is somewhat a perfectionist inside. and many actors are both acting and at the same time directing also, like Clooney, Brad’s best friend.. :) if Clooney can do it, why not Brad too?! directing a movie is different but i’m pretty sure Brad can handle, he knows how to balance things and he has experienced a lot since he worked from different directors already like Tarantino. i’m sure he would ask them for advice if he would really go for directing.

Maybe in the future, but I understand what he means about wanting to get home to the family. He has stated that a few times in the last couple of years.

those children are growing up fast. in a few years, pax and maddox will be tweens and the girls will be in grade school. the twins will be in pre-school!!! i think though that as celebrities, they are doing the best they can. they are not only actors but very active social and humanitarian activists. i cannot blame them because with all that talent, money and looks, they would feel a responsibility to give back to the world.
i think in the next few years, angie will lay low and stay at home more. that’s just the way she is. i really hope they stay together. this family makes you feel good about the concept of family irregardless of what other people say. you can’t help but root for them.

josephine- It would, but don’t count on it, at least not until the kids are much older. If Brad directed Angie in a movie now, they’d both be working, and they’ve said that they have an agreement that only one of them will work at a time so the other one can be home with the kids. :)

that also means we will not see them together in another movie for a long long time. so sad for joliepitt fans but we can wait!

josephine- Actually, in one of his recent interviews Brad said that he and Angie don’t plan to do another movie together, unfourtnately for us. :(

that’s just cruel. anyway, never say never. i’m sure there will come a material that both cannot say no to. someday…. in the meantime i will keep hoping. that movie will be epic so it will be worth the wait.

Lynne – I couldn´t agree more with you. Brad really has his priorities in order:kids and family first and work second. And the goes for Angie too. They both have said many times that their family is the most important thing in their lives. They don´t want to miss seeing the kids grow up. If they had to choose between their careers or family I think they both would choose family. In some years they both will certainly retire from acting and concentrate on the family. I´m not saying that they aren´t concentrating already but in a few years Zee, Shi, Knox and Viv will all go to school and that means that they have to stay in one place permanently. Right now they are travelling a lot and Mad and Pax are home-schooled. But I´m sure that the boys would love to go public school and having friends. There´s nothing wrong with being home-schooled either. They (Mad and Pax) sure have good teachers and get the same education as any other child of their age.
