The Cannes Film Festival is more than just movie debuts and red carpet events, even though that’s the part we get most excited over as fans. After all, we all love to see Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie dressed up for the red carpet.
However, there’s a great deal of business that goes on at Cannes, and it just makes good sense if you think about it. The film festival is swarming with actors, directors, producers, and people who can lay claim to more than one of those titles.
Brad Pitt was obviously busy talking shop because it’s been announced that his film Tree of Life has been picked up at Cannes by TriPictures after being sold by Summit.
This movie has been so under the wire that it’s been hard to really know what it’s about, who is starring in it, and perhaps most importantly – when the heck is it going to be ready to go? Brad is a co-producer for the film and the brief synopsis is that it deals with a man who has seen nothing but sickness, death, and upset since his childhood and how he comes to terms with that reality as an adult.
I’m glad that it’s been picked up, the movie keeps popping up everywhere and is obviously important to Brad. Right now it seems that it’s slated for a release sometime “later this year” in the U.S. but there’s no further detail than that. I’ll keep you posted as more details emerge of course!
Edit: It seems I caused some confusion, and I apologize for not being clear enough. A lot of business deals go on during Cannes and they were seeking distribution for the movie. The movie wasn’t picked up to be shown at Cannes, it was picked up by TriPictures who now have the rights to distribute the film. The Cannes Film Festival is also a great place to do business networking, so I’m glad Brad and Summit found a deal they were pleased with since this will hopefully get Tree Of Life out there sooner than it would have otherwise.

Precision Grace, I agree with all of your comments. I never thought about flashbulbs possibly causing health problems, but you could be right. Also, I don’t think we will see the JP’s any time soon.

June – totally agree with you! I don’t tend to stray to other sites other than Randi and Sherry’s. Don’t understand how they pull off creating rumours by adding “our anonymous source” to everything. And some comments one finds in some places can really make you scared of the dark. As you say; if you don’t like the people, leave them alone and don’t comment. Easy peasy ;o)

that interview is in German! oh. imagine how many tidbits of information we are missing from interviews obtained by countries whose language is not English?!
yesterday I dug up some ancient interviews with Brad, back from 93 and 94 and was surprised to learn that he was interested in architecture and world affairs way back then. It makes me very annoyed that tabloids report patently untrue facts about people; it really ought to be illegal.
Also, looking at the latest vid posted above, I’m thinking flash photography outside studio should be illegal too. I bet you anything that scientists will discover that exposure to that causes all manner of health problems but by then it will be too late for many. (I don’t know why I’m thinking of Farrah Fawcett as I type this)
Anyway, Brad and Ange shouldn’t have to give statements about the state of their private life but because we keep wandering, the journalists will keep asking and pursuing this topic.
How do we arrive at the happy medium, dear co-fans?
(all this as a way of keeping us busy as I’m sensing there will be another [non-pregnant hah!] pause before we see J-Ps again.)

Brad did an interview while in France. In responding to a questions about rumors about him and Angelina, Brad said they don’t pursue them and they don’t answer to these false rumors plus they weren’t breaking up and that all that stuff has nothing to do with the truth.

Washington, May 23 (ANI): Hollywood’s lovely ladies have named Angelina Jolie as their ultimate female crush, while Hugh Jackman remains their favourite amongst men in showbiz.
The sexiest female stars, who divulged details about their crushes amongst both sexes, and rated the ‘Tomb Raider’ actress above all other actresses.
“Male would be Kobe Bryant, female Angelina Jolie,” Fox News quoted BRENDA SONG as saying.
When asked about her crushes, CARIDEE ENGLISH said: “Rob Pattinson, Josh Hartnett and Eminem. Female, there’s a lot of good females now .. (Tyra?) No! She can’t be my crush, she’s like my mom! Any model like Elle Macpherson, Angelina Jolie or Cindy Crawford.”
JULIANNE HOUGH said: “Chuck (Wicks) of course my boyfriend. But girl? It’s always Angelina Jolie – she is gorgeous.”
Jolie and Jackman also remain the favourites for SHANNON ELIZABETH.

There are so many negatives posting at other websites that I just wonder what is wrong with certain people that they are not happy to see other people happy. Isn’t happiness good? Does it really matter whether you like the person or not?

I doubt that they are gonna be there next year.Moneyball is not coming out until 2011 and I can’t see Salt going there,so we might as well enjoy this years pictures and videos.

Now,apart from the “Tree of Life”,I would love to see tham next year at Cannes.Maybe they will be there with a new movie!It’s my favorite event of the year!I don’t know why but I think they look great in this festival!!!Don’t you?

A guy with relatively close proximity to Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life has confimed what is common knowledge in some circles but has never been rock-solid confirmed, which is that, yes, there is a dinosaur sequence. “Apparently the depth of the father’s (Brad Pitt) grief when [reason conveyed but omitted here] is so great that the film goes back to the beginning of time and charts evolution……………………………..
He also says the film is definitely “coming out in ’09.
SALT is filming in NYC today (saturday 23rd may).
i really doubt brad and angelina are at the monaco grand prix. they are most likely back in new york, like that daily mail report said, brad and angie left france late thursday 21st may.
I’ve just seen an interview Brad did with the British Daily Mirror at the Cannes. In it he talks about his family, he says he is in love and has a beautiful family and is very happy. Bet the haters will not be making any comments. Loved the moment Brad walked down the red carpet to collect his beautiful lady. Very romantic. Love the Jolie-Pitts. Feel sorry for all the sad haters. The Jolie-Pitts are here to stay. GOD Bless them and their fans.
Looking at the Cannes 2009 pics, what can I say but WOW……just WOW……
Now tell me, how can anyone possibly top this—the kind of SEXINESS The Jolie has?!
Really, how can any woman has this rare, RAW SEXINESS that shouts perfect sensuality & sexuality. And mind you, she has BOTH!
I mean, look at her, just doing simple things, walking…signing…THE JOLIE is simply BREATHTAKINGLY STUNNING!!!
I could only imagine the sound of the “ahh” & the “ohh” of the crowd when they saw her. If she generated so much admiration from us who only see her in pics, how much more the kind of reactions she got from the people who saw her in person at Cannes.
No wonder, Brad is so proud of his woman that he really went out of his way to get her from the crowd even in the middle of Cast picture-taking. Brad’s gesture melt my heart or any woman for that matter, showing the people that indeed Angie means the world to him. As the saying goes, “HE’s the man!!!”…..to his one & only woman….but of course!!!

Mary Ann: Brad is also in The Tree of Life. It was filmed in Texas. The Jolie-Pitts moved there for a while when Brad was working in this movie. I am still very happy looking at those pictures & videos at Cannes. God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
Having a hard time catching up with all of this week’s pictures and news. Grandparent duties heavy this week. Glad to hear about Tree of Life. If Shawn Penn is in it it will be a great movie. Is Brad just producing or is he in it also? And is it a Plan B project?
Thanks for the great photos and news. My favorite image is of Brad walking down the carpet to get Angelina. To me, one of the most romantic gestures I have seen. Lovely, as was the entire couple of days.
