Brandon T. Jackson, who stars in the upcoming comedy “Tropic Thunder” spilled the beans to Hollyscoop (kind of) about Tom Cruise being in the movie. Obviously we all already know he is in the movie and have seen the pictures. I am looking forward to seeing him play this role. From everything I have heard about it, he did a remarkable job!

Brandon T. Jackson Talks About Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder
Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - 2:17 pm ET

This movie sounds great! The cast sounds terrific – I hope Tom is getting a generous portion of the profits since he is being so generous in being in an uncredited cameo!
I wonder if he is channeling Sumner Redstone in his “nasty director’s” role? I bet this will be a blockbuster movie.
When is The Hardy Men coming out?
I’ve been looking for any new updates I can find on this movie, ever since I heard Tommy boy was gonna be in it. I already told my mom that I’d be taking her to an early birthday present with this movie. I heard it is very funny and, laughter is good for everyone, although it might come from raunchy gore.
i posted before Galib.
Anabel,
Tropic Thunder comes out on August 13th and I’m very much looking forward to it. It looks very funny!
By the way, Sunmer Redstone is not a director. He’s the CEO of Viacom.
Also, I don’t believe anyone gets paid for an uncredited cameo. Either that, or they are paid scale. Those types of appearances are usually done as a favor to the director or star (Stiller is BOTH in this case). That’s been my experience.
From what I heard, tc is doing this as a favor, no pay. He is that type of a person.
Sometimes it is MORE profitable to just get your name out there, then to get paid an then pay taxes on it!
I heard too, that tc part is SO small that if they were to show it on the trailer, you’d miss it.
Most actors that have small parts don’t get paid for them.
I can’t wait!!…….I hope it has better timing than Lions for Lambs. I just had no time to go to the cinema when L4L came out. I had to wait for it to come out on DVD. Then I bought a copy to make up for not seeing it earlier.
“I heard too, that tc part is SO small that if they were to show it on the trailer, you’d miss it.”
PH: According to the reviews, what you heard is wrong.
“The greatest introduction comes when we first see the man behind the funding of “Tropic Thunder”, and it is possibly the best surprise of the entire film. This may be a big spoiler for some, so be warned. The hairy, over weight, and now balding billionaire is played by none other than Tom Cruise, spewing the word **** every chance he can conceivably get. The theatre went nuts. To see Cruise in a role like this was encouraging. And the decision to KEEP him coming back throughout the entire movie was a great choice.”
I also heard he has about ten minutes in total. That is quite sometime, especially if it is not one scene. I just can’t wait. Every one says he is so so funny. August 13th can’t come soon enough!
Hana, the quote you posted just states the tc has a role in the movie.
“I” stated that the reviews said his part is small.
IT IS! Just because he shows up in the movie in different spots, does NOT mean his part is NOT small!
AND IF he is saying swear words through out, I am already turned off.
Puck, were you turned on before? You detest him and don’t think he is a good actor, why would you like whatever he offers? Tell me, if he was not swearing, would you be interested? You said before that you would never watch a TC movie.
PH: I wasn’t completely disagreeing with you that TC’s part is small. But I thought you said, his part is SO SMALL that if they were to show it on the trailer, you’d miss it.
I was trying to explain that its not true, you won’t miss his part if they showed it in the 2.30 minutes trailer. And the reason they didn’t show it on the trailer was because its a spoiler and they wanted it to be a surprise.
Yes, his part is small but according to the reviews (who are saying that TC actually steals the movie) and what Jack Black said NOT Small enough to miss.
“Puck, were you turned on before?”
LOL! I was thinking the same.
No, Lauren. YOU detest him. Those are YOUR words, OWN THEM.
I have NEVER said that about tc.
The thought of a good movie despite of whom might be in it, is always a good thing.
A person that silently claims to be the leader of his church and publicly states that he only represents good and then uses so many curse words it cannot be televised?
Yeah, that is a turn off on this movie.
I feel the need, the need for……..Another review!
……..The real gold star for this film belongs to Tom Cruise. Yup, Tom Cruise is in this movie and he dominates every single scene he is in and his presence is felt even when he isn’t on screen.
If a 10 minute cameo of a man in a fat suit, swearing?, makes or breaks a movie, then it wasn’t much of a movie to begin with. Maybe it was time for Ben Stiller to go back to the drawing board. The “fans” here are getting a little too excited in my opinion. Yes, the film’s PR machine is in full force to draw attention to it, but wishing this’ll revive Tom’s career is serious wishing. Not gonna happen.
Ah Tyler…………The great reviews aren’t just for Tom’s cameo, it’s for the movie as a whole.
Having said that though, all the reviews of the movie thus far have said TC’s role in it is outright hilarious.
You’re mistaken when you say the film is drawing attention to TC’s role, they aren’t. TC is in none of the film’s pr. The reviews of his role are coming from screenings of the movie.
“…The hairy, over weight, and now balding billionaire is played by none other than Tom Cruise, spewing the word **** every chance he can conceivably get. The theatre went nuts. To see Cruise in a role like this was encouraging. And the decision to KEEP him coming back throughout the entire movie was a great choice.”
I don’t know why “they” thought it is “encouraging” to see Tom in a role that has him “spewing the word **** every chance he can conceivably get.”
I’m trying to make sense of that.
hey tom, I’am happy that you did a great job in ben’s new movie. and I here you did alright. well tom you are a good actor. susan kuby stassi,
I am looking forward to this movie a lot. I haven’t seen a review saying Tom is not super good. Exciting stuff. Makes me wonder how it is going to be spun by the likes of Friedman.
Tyler, I can’t for Tom’s next movie for you to swallow your words.
Anne,
That would be Valkyrie (sp?) according to reports.
Just ten minutes!!! With all the hooplah he is getting, one would think there would be more than 10 minutes. I guess the pther actors were that lousy that only one actor and 10 minutes stood out.
Any well known actor/actress in a fat suit would be hiliarious!!
Actually Anon here is bit more info on that 10 minutes.
- Tom Cruise. I wasn’t sure how it would work out with him in the film and I figured he’d just be in one scene. He’s actually in quite a few and it is a legitimate supporting role.
————————–
The cast are people who know comedy by heart. From Jack Black, Steve Coogan to Bill Hader and Matthew McConaughey.
——————
.. and the cameos are priceless
——————————-
KEY word, rather key letter, cameoS. S as in PLURAL. More then ONE person is doing a cameo.
“the cameos are priceless”. Meaning that ALL of the cameos, NOT just tc, are priceless.
tom I think you are a great actor, so know wonder the movie is good. you can show people you can do anything. Iam happy for you. susan kuby stassi
