Bravo Now Casting For "Untitled Art Project"

The 2009 Tribeca Film Festival: 'Wonderful World' PremiereHaving humiliated chefs, housewives, designers, hair-dressers, and a group of helpful gay men, it’s time for Bravo to turn its eye to aspiring artists. Announced last year, the “Untitled Art Project” (formerly known as American Artist) will be produced by Magical Elves and Sarah Jessica Parker’s production company, Pretty Matches. Magical Elves is the producer of Top Chef and formerly, Project Runway. The project is finally being cast through 4 open casting calls:

Some interesting notes from the casting call:

“Please make sure your passport is valid and up to date. If you do not have one, please apply for one immediately.”

So, international travel is in this show’s future and no future politicos! Good luck.

I’m curious — will they have to produce an artwork every week? I know in real-life, fashion designers don’t make clothes in 24 hours, but it seems like that’s a REALLY compressed schedule for artists, who can spend years on a piece. And you can’t exactly ask, say, a video installation artist to do a still life. I’ll be very curious to see how this works out (and of course I will watch it).

I am applying for this show! As an artist, its one of the best ways to challenge yourself stepping out of familiar territory to see one’s capabilities. I Am anxious to learn about the challenges!

‘You think you can dance’ would be a good template for the Art project. They are as many stiles and ways of doing things in art and they can be thought. History of art can be part of the challenge in the show. At the end creating the most captivating image judged by the votes of the viewers would produce the winner….I guess.

Art has no rules, it’s based on ideas, luck & hype.

Will the artists have a Art Off or Paint off ?

How can a video artist, a photo realist painter, and minimalist sculptor, compete against each other ?

Sounds like art school hell 101.

Some network needs to do a reality show focused around the animation and video game industry… Now THAT would be cool.

…If they did it right that is

Anyway, sorry for the seemingly random comment. I’m an aspiring game artist and think I’m a little too specialized for this show unfortunately. If they had a reality show with two development teams going at it to produce an animation or game though, that might be cool.

this show makes me so pissed. I tried out today and got to the semifinals today before they rejected me. They have such a close mind about what good art is, all they want is modern abstract artists to compete fingerpainting until enough of the balding judges pretend to like the same one. I want this show to fail.

i went to auditions in chicago and got the boot within 10 min. I had a very conservative critic. Well i had to pass through NY for a layover on the way back home and decided to audition in NY. Completely different judges, and i even got 1 step further than i did in Chicago before i got the boot!
