Brian Melo Unsure of Canadian Idol Outcome

Well, at least Brian Melo is not being cocky which is a good thing :) I do think he has a fair shot at winning the Canadian Idol title this year but it’s really 50/50. I don’t even have a firm opinion about it and I doubt I ever will unless one clearly outperforms the other in the final showdown.

Here’s an article I found that might interest you (Jaydee Bixby has a little to say towards the end too!) :

“Canadian Idol” finalists Brian Melo and Jaydee Bixby say they couldn’t be more different from each other – and that’s a good thing.

The pair face off in the race for the coveted title next week, with Melo putting his classic rock style up against Bixby’s homespun country singing. In a conference call with media Wednesday, Melo wouldn’t speculate on his chances of winning, saying it’s “50-50.”

The 25-year-old rocker from Hamilton, Ont., praised his country-singing competitor’s stage presence, strong voice and killer smile.

Bixby, a 17-year-old student from Drumheller, Alta., says Melo is a “likable dude” and that he’d vote for him if he wasn’t in the competition.

Next Monday’s performance episode will show Melo and Bixby in New York for a workshop with rock veterans Bon Jovi, who will appear on the finale along with Avril Lavigne and Idol winner Eva Avila on Sept. 11.

Melo says his heart was racing when he heard that he’d made the Top 2 in Tuesday’s episode, which saw Carly Rae Jepsen of Mission, B.C., voted off.

He says he thinks his humble background and prior experience with his bands are what resonates with his fans.

Bixby, who managed to avoid the bottom three through the entire series, says he’s survived to the end by playing to his strength as a country and western singer.

“Not very many people do the kind of music I do,” notes Bixby, whose songbook leans heavily on Elvis Presley and other standards from the ’50s and ’60s.

Bixby says having Melo as a rival has pushed him to work harder at being a good performer.

“You know when you got an opponent that is so good at what he does, it just makes you strive to want to be better? It’s just something that helps me strive to be better,” he says.
