Britney Spears in Billboard’s top ten artists of the decade

Britney Spears grabbed a high spot on Billboard’s Artists of the decade list! This isn’t a big surprise to me, Britney has been a huge hit her entire career. Not even her breakdown was enough to stop her from being a musical sensation. The only surprise for me was that she ranked number eight when I thought she would have been closer to the top.

Billboard wrote this about Britney:

When Britney Spears wasn’t shaving her head or dropping babies this decade, she was churning out a succession of hit singles that continue to resonate with fans the world over. She scored four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and two Hot 100 chart-toppers, including “3,” which debuted atop the chart in October 2009. “I want to do things that people have never seen before,” she said in 2001. “I don’t want to be considered a role model.”

I think that was part of the problem – people were so busy saying that Britney Spears was a terrible role model when she was getting all crazy, but no one ever remembered to ask her if she wanted to be one at all.

Regardless, Britney scored one of the best comebacks of all time so she’s well deserving of her ranking in the top ten.
