Okay folks! Burn After Reading opens in most cities today! Who’s excited? I wish I could see it tonight but probably won’t get to catch it for a couple of weeks. However, I know many of you will be seeing it at some point this weekend – and some of you were lucky enough to catch sneak peeks yesterday! – so let’s get a review post going.
If you see the movie, please leave your comments here. Please, though, be considerate of those who have not seen it yet – no spoilers! Let us know if you loved it, hated it, if it was as good as Fargo, etc.
Awww. Look how happy Brad Pitt is at the thought of you seeing his movie!

Coen’s ‘Burn’ heats up box office
New releases perform strong in crowded frame
Ethan and Joel Coen’s farce “Burn After Reading” led a vibrant boom at the fall box office, debuting to an estimated $19.4 million from 2,651 theaters to give the siblings and Focus Features their biggest opening gross ever.
This despite mixed reviews for “Burn” . . . Box office observers said the star power of “Burn”was enough to overcome unimpressive notices. Brad Pitt made the defining difference for “Burn,” which also toplines George Clooney, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and John Malkovich.
Brad and Angelina rank 6th “Most Generous Celebrity”. Ranking was by “The Giving Back Fund” that seeks to encourage celebrity philanthropy. I’ve included a link to the site which lists the top 30. It will really surprise you, or at least I was.

Saw the movie. Loved Brad in it. Typical Coen brother romp of madness.
Read a critique of the movie that said:
“Pitt is dynamite, killing every trace of his trademark cool. His Chad — hair streaked, eyes untroubled by thought, body gyrating to an iPod tune only he hears — is a potent comic creation”
Loved the line “untroubled by thought”…
At times his dimwitted character would be watching something and you’d swear you could see the little hamster on the treadmill of his brain trying to make some connections… but… no…. LOL!

BAR brings out the best of Brad’s dancing skills. He is such a character in this movie. His part was the only one that makes me laugh so hard in the theater, except in Clooneys’ surprised invention.
God Bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
Just got back from seeing this. I have to say, Brad was absolutely ADORABLE in this movie. He plays a goofball so naturally you have to wonder if that is how he is a lot of the time at home with Ange and the kids. And, his face is nothing short of perfection – those eyes, those lips……ahhh! He was definitely the highlight of this movie.
Brad’s character in BAR sees life as a game, which he approaches with playful, exuberant naïveté. He is constantly in outrageous motion, with hilarious, exaggerated facial expressions and wonderfully expressive eyes. Brad’s real-life kids must have a great time playing with him! Brad is a major and critical supporting actor to Frances McDormand’s and George Clooney’s leads; more Brad screen-time would have been nice. But all Brad Pitt fans should definitely go see BAR. As Chicken First says, see it at least twice!
Just got back from seeing BAR and it was GREAT. Brad plays such a goofball and oh so lovable. I wonder if he acts this way around his little ones for fun?
Just saw the Saturday matinee. What a cool movie. Brad was the best–he was just so fun and believable in his character. When he told Jan Carl on ET that there are some parts of this movie that’s reminiscent of his home life, I think he must be referring to his dancing since the JP household is into “art programs”. Brad’s got some dancing moves in this movie. I had a great time.
i can wait but it is not shown here yet.
I haven’t seen BAR yet, because my best movie friend (BMF) isn’t a Pitt fan. (Yes, I’m very open-minded. Some of my friends are not Pitt fans.) But I definitely can recommend AGAINST “Righteous Kill,” the latest cop movie starring Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. What a flop!
I saw it last night and it was funny and witty. The best part about the movie though was definately Brad! He was hilarious and had the whole theater cracking up. Not enough screen time for our guy though. :( Or for George for that matter.
Thanks for the thread Sherry!
Saw BAR yesterday. It was a bit slow at first as it was introducing all the characters and building the story, after that it took off. It was hilarious! I found FARGO interesting, but not really funny. BAR was so funny that by the end the whole theater was laughing. I was in tears with laughter. I recommend it. See it TWICE, at least. The best thing is that you really do not like any of the characters (except Chad) very much so you really enjoy laughing at them!
I saw it Friday night and thought all the characters were terrific. I love Brad’s full range acting abilities… So talented! I’m all for the Jolie-Pitts!
My daughter just tuned 24. She & I think Brad & Angie are terrific parents as well as people. I was telling her about the work & time B & A put into *making* time for EACH of their children.
So, even though we have to wait until Sunday, she ask *me* to go with her when she could have went with any one of her many friends :)
She thought it was something just “her & I” could do.
Brad & Angie make a bigger impact then they could ever imagine. I mean my daughter & I haven’t seen a movie together since the
Titanic.
SAW IT LAST NIGHT……. I KEPT SAYING TO MY FRIENDS I WANT TO SEE BRAD……WHEN IS HE GOING TO COME OUT!….SO FINALY, THE BEST THING IN THIS FILM IS BRAD. I WAS VERY SURPRISE TO WHAT HAPPEN TO HIM IN THE MOVIE. I DIDNT REALY LIKE IT, BUT THATS ONLY ME I HOPE EVERYONE LIKES IT.
Better than Fargo. Faster pace and richer characters…and Fargo is a great movie!!!! You don’t have to be a Pitt fan to enjoy his performace or this movie. NO Spoilers please… that includes hints about twists or fates, I enjoyed the surprises and hope others can too. FUN, FUN, FUN MOVIE!!
