Canadian Idol August 20, 2007 - Matt Rapley

The first performance was from Matt Rapley who sang Stevie Wonder’s hit, “Higher Ground.” He did a reasonably good job with the vocals but it was his performance that really stood out. Kelly Clarkson told him he needed to be more free on stage and it looks like her took her advice. Here’s the video:

    better than his last performance.

He’s okay but rather forgettable. Since he was in the dreaded first position tonight, he might be going.

I don’t know how you can call that performance forgettable. I thought he rocked it! He’d better not be going home.

I don’t know what it is, but something about his singing bothers me. It seems like he’s consistenly off-key. He’ll break out and have some moments that hit right on, but most of the time he sounds–I don’t know–a little sharp and whiny? I always thought it was similar to Stevie Wonder, but hearing him sing Stevie again, it just doesn’t work for me.

It was a great charismatic performance though.

Yay, the videos are working for me!

There were some really great moments in this performance, but the band drowns him out a lot of the time. I think Jaydee *should* go home tonight, but it will probably be Matt or Dwight. :/
