Canadian Idol Carly Rae Jepsen – Killer Queen

I love Carly Rae but I did not love this performance of “Killer Queen.” Hmmm… I can’t explain it but it annoyed me – really annoyed me. I think she’s gonna be a star, no question, but this did not work for me tonight. Sorry.

Carly is nothing more than a Jewel rip-off

This girl works so hard, she has an original sound/style. I have had the pleasure of seeing her perform in Vancouver with the Blue Morris6. She deserves to win but the vote system is unfair. As for Carly the best is yet to come. Go girl!

Good point, L. What’s the saying? “Comparisons are odious”? Unfortunately, when covering other people’s songs, comparisons are inevitable. But I can’t wait to hear some Carly Rae originals in her post-Idol career.

Well, I’ve never heard the original, so I thought this was pretty awesome. I liked the operatic part.

Comparisons are the problem, though. With Queen songs, there are bound to be comparisons to the original. If this had been an original song on Carly’s album, it probably would have been better received.

I actually thought she did well, making the song very cabaret and so different enough from the original for me to appreciate her version. Unfortunately, she also did that growl thing that she does when she lacks the power that she needs, but it bothered me less here than it did during the Sarah Slean song.

not a fan of her voice at all, but she worked the stage really well.

My dad thought it wasn’t bad, said it was interesting.
I REALLY didn’t enjoy it, though. “Killer Queen” is one of my most favourite Queen songs, and it just ruined it for me, unfortunately.
I didn’t like when she went all operatic on the ‘queeeen’ part.
