Here we are, getting ready for the Top 4 performances on Canadian Idol tonight. The contestants will be singing “standards” and being coached by Paul Anka. The contestants will be performing two songs each tonight.

Performance #1 – Carly Rae Jepsen
Paul said he liked the way she was internalizing the song and that she has the kind of voice that captures the imagine and says it is admirable for someone Carly’s age.
Carly is singing “My Heart Belongs to Daddy.” She’s wearing a beautiful red dress. I’m so sorry but because Carly is so young looking and sounding, I laugh everytime she says “daddy.” Jake Gold thought she was not disappointing and good enough for the semi-finals. Farley Flex said her shoes were great and she gave a really nice performance. Sass Jordan agreed with the shoe comment and said it was Carly’s best performance so far. Zack Werner wants her to sizzle more and thought it was just “okay.”

Performance #2 – Jaydee Bixby
Paul said doesn’t want Jaydee to take this song too lightly. He said Jaydee has a young enthusiasm, concept of how to perform and an honest open heart.
Jaydee is singing “Fever.” His dance moves are hilarious!!!! He did an okay job in my opinion but I know the girls went crazy over this sexy song. Farley said Jaydee looked uncomfortable but that he was happy he tried. Sass said his leg move was “killer.” Zack said he could cash Jaydee’s face for a check for a million dollars and said that Jaydee should go to Nashville and cash in on his looks. Jake said that he was happy that Jaydee listened to Paul’s advice about not smiling.

Performance #3 – Brian Melo
Paul talks about his friendship with Bobby Darin. Paul said that Brian needs to be more aggressive and macho with his voice, which Paul said was good.
Brian is singing “Mack The Knife” one of my favorite songs (I know it in German also) but I am not completely feeling this. Okay, it got better here at the end of the song. Sass said she is a big fan and that performance had attitude. Zack said there were weak moments and some magical spots that he fought through. Jake was happy with Brian’s attitude and said he looked like a star. Farley said he looked like a star and that it seemed that Brian felt like a star.

Performance #4 – Dwight d’Eon
Paul told Dwight to not be afraid to feel and live the lyrics. He said that he thought Dwight would be fine but that it would be a tough test.
Dwight is singing “I Get a Kick Out of You” and he looks nervous and uncomfortable. I don’t know but it sounds really pitchy. I am not sure this was the right song choice for him. He’s got another chance tonight so hopefully the next song goes better. Zack said he cannot see him as a crooner. Jake agrees and said that it’s okay because Dwight won’t be making these kinds of records. Farley said that Dwight came out worried and that it would have gone better if he had just come out and had fun. Sass said she really appreciated Dwight’s effort.

Performance #5 – Carly Rae Jepsen
Carly is singing “I Got it Bad and That Ain’t Good.” She is wearing the reddest lipstick I have ever seen! It is appropriate for tonight’s “standards” theme. My husband is terrible. He finds that Carly’s words are hard to understand and he was like, “Imagine if Carly and John Mayer made an album together? No one would understand the words.” I laughed because it’s true!!! Jake said Carly sold the songs. Farley said it was a fantastic rendition. Sass said it was like watching something from a film. Zack said it was “killer” and “adorable.”

Performance #6 – Jaydee Bixby
Jaydee is singing “When You’re Smiling” and it actually works! I was worried but, so far, it sounds good. Jaydee danced with one of the backup singers. Gosh, this kid knows how to sell himself. :) Farley said that Jaydee was believable and had fun. Sass said he is heading for the race. Zack said that if Jaydee takes ballet lessons he will be a big star and that when America discovers him, he’s gonna blow up. Jake thought the singing and dancing was great.

Performance #7 – Brian Melo
Brian is singing “Feeling Good” which, again, is one of my favorite songs and I’m not sure how I feel about this performance. It’s funny that this song is about feeling and I don’t feel a ton of emotion from Brian. Sass thought that was good and said that he owned the stage. Zack says that Brian could easily win. Jake said that there isn’t anything more he can say. Farley said what everyone else said.
Am I the only one who didn’t think this was great? Love Brian but I’m not sure about this performance…

Performance #8 – Dwight d’Eon
Dwight is singing “Unforgettable” and he seemed a lot more comfortable than during his first performance. Zack said that Dwight kinda reached out and touched him, lol. Jake said it was a valiant effort but that it was not believable and doesn’t know if he’s gonna be here next week. Farley said that if he comes out and has fun that is the most important. Sass said that Dwight looked wonderful.

weirdgrrl and Jeanne: I figured I couldn’t fault him this week because the hats fit with the theme, hehe. However, it occurred to me that quite oddly, no one on the show has made any comment about their ubiquitous presence. You’d think Ben would have made at least made a little jab about the hats by now. Conspiracy! lol ;)
Jay – that was a hilarious, to-the-point rundown of the remaining contestants. Thanks for that honesty!
Jaydeefan – I think I have to agree. Jaydee really does have a shot. :)
Weirdgrrl – I thought about it after I wrote the comment. If you do know the words, I can see how it could be overlooked, lol. My son said it sounded like lyrical diarrhea since he doesn’t know the songs. LOLOLOL!!! What a comment. He still thinks Carly’s smokin’ though. Oh and, yeah, there was plenty of meow meow in the comments last night but they were entertaining. No worries though – my tone is bad online and offline after a long day :)
I do understand what you mean by “slurry”, Jeanne, and I’ll listen for that next time. It might be that she just keeps picking songs that I know the words too already so I’m not necessarily paying attention to how she’s enunciating (or not enunciating) them.
And I’m glad the banter came off as entertaining and not b!tchy, as I’m not so good with tone when writing online at the end of a long day. :-)

Dwight Can’t sing and his timing is always off..he’s gone…

Joshy – such hatred towards Dwight? I’ve never heard of anyone witholding the capitals in someone’s name for bad singing. That’s hilarious.
Lauren – I pretty much have to agree…yikes.
Marleen – Jaydee’s second performance was probably the highlight of the night for me. I agree – it did look like Dwight gave up tonight.
Kimmy – Did you see Brian changing up the hats??? LOL. I think you might be right about Dwight going home next week.
Liss – It’s great to hear from someone that was there live! I have wondered if they sound better in the auditorium than on television because some of the judges’ comments have baffled me all season. It all makes sense now – Thanks!
Kelly – Sexy cute? Jaydee? That’s great! I haven’t heard that one yet but I can see that. Especially since he didn’t smile tonight. He did his best to be “smoldering.” Hilarious!
Jaydeefan – It’s incredible. There are so many of you who love Jaydee. Do you think he will win?
weirdgrrl – I can’t explain it but I find some of Carly’s singing “slurry” but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. John Mayer is one of my favorites and when he sings live, he slurs. I can, however, believe that not all people see it that way. Good ears, my friend!

I have to admit I’m confused by people saying they can’t understand Carly Rae when she sings because I’ve never had a problem with that. I thought her first song was okay but I loved her second song. She was so connected to it that I was moved.
And I thought Brian did well, too. First of all, he chose songs that I adore (I guess we’ve got that in common, Jeanne) and, apart from starting off a little shaky with Mack the Knife, I thought he did them both justice. I’m not saying he topped Nina Simone singing Feeling Good, but that’s a really hard song to sing and I felt it.
Poor Dwight was just completely out of his element. And I will no longer comment about Jaydee because I just don’t understand his appeal.

I agree with Liss, and most People here.. I love Jaydee Bixby.. He was so sexy cute.. Fever was OK, Could have snapped his fingers, and Flirted more, as for When you’re Smilin . I was Blown Away.. When He Jived. I wasjumping up and Down.. He has a GREAT soundinh Voice wit h huge Potential.. Carleey had very nice moments, and Brian kinda sounded lie Matt Dusk.. But Jaydee Bixby stole the Show!! I want them t opost the Performances HERE!! Vote Vote Vote for Jaydee to Win the Next Canadian IDOL!!

i was there live, and with the exception of Dwight (i feel bad, he’s actually really nice to talk to!) i think they were all good.
that thing you said, Leanne, about not understanding what Carly Rae says when she sings has been driving me insane ever since the first time i heard her. this contributes to the reason why do not dig her voice. but i must say she sounds better live than on tv.
Jaydee– that’s my boy! totally loved his performances (judges must have been listening to something different when he sang Fever, because he was killerrrr!).
Brian is really just so-so for me… i dont know, he kind of bores me. Leanne, i agree about his second performance. He was kind of just “whatever” tonight, compared to Karma Police.
Dwight just looked painfully out of place tonight. He was really at loss about what to do — from what to do with his hand, to what to do with himself as a whole. I feel kind of bad for him.
I have to agree with Lauren – everyone was pretty off tonight. They all have really distinct styles that just didn’t seem to mesh with the standards. That being said, the end of both Carly and Brian’s performances were good. And gosh darnit, I kinda liked Jaydee tonight! ;) I like Dwight but I really wasn’t feeling him tonight. I think he’s going home.
i really enjoyed jaydees second performance, i feel he sang for his supper again, and he as a really good chance for being the next idol.
i felt so sorry for dwight, i felt he gave up tonight.

brian is okay, but i don’t like his style either.
I thought that Brian and Jaydee were the best of the night…but that’s not saying much. I really think that this whole night was just really bad for everybody.
Carly was bad 1# and 2#. Jaydee was o.k on both performances. Brian was bad on 2#but o.k and boring on number 1. dwight was really,really bad! Go home dwight and yes there is no Capitol on dwight because he doesn’t deserve it.
