Canadian Idol Live Blogging Tonight – Top 2

canadian idol top 2

Wow! Can you believe it’s that time already? I will be live blogging Canadian Idol tonight, starting at 6pm EST. Hope to see some of you here!

Awwww… there was a montage of their “greatest hits” and judges comments. Brian ended the segment by saying, “I love Jaydee but this is a competition.”

Ben Mulroney says that the boys flew down to New York to be coached by Bon Jovi. He is now introducing the judges… Zack is kissing a mirror looking at himself! Jake says that winning is worth just over a million dollars. Sass says that the competition is tough but it’s tough every year. Farley said that Brian has been consistent and steady and that Jaydee is an anomaly and memorable. Zack said that “winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.”

Brian Melo and Jaydee Bixby were just introduced. They look hott!!!

Montage of Bon Jovi and blah, blah, blah. I mean, I absolutely love Bon Jovi (look at my post from Bon Jovi week on AI6 to see how much I love them) but I wanna get to the competition!!!!!!!!! Jon Bon Jovi talks about how his new music has a Nashville influence but that it’s still “Bon Jovi” music.

Jaydee is first. Jon Bon Jovi said good songs transcend genre (which is good for a country boy like Jaydee). Bon Jovi said that Jaydee’s very likable right off the bat. Jon told him that he has got to find his own voice but, overall, they had flattering things to say.

Jaydee sings Bon Jovi’s “Who Says You Can’t Go Home?” Jaydee seems a little nervous tonight (okay, very nervous). It’s too bad because it’s affecting the performance which is, otherwise, pretty good. Great song choice, though. He looked nervous but didn’t sound nervous, thank gawd.

Jake said that he didn’t feel that Jaydee made the words believable. Sass is giggling and said that he just did what he does really well. Farley said that he wishes Jaydee had been a bit more energetic. Zack said he could barely hear Jaydee and the he looked like a guy sitting in his car singing to the radio. Ouch. I can see that but Jaydee did sing well.

==============Commercial Break============ (more after jump!)

More Bon Jovi video clips from their new video (exclusive)…

Brian met with Bon Jovi and Jon said there was not a lot to critique but encouraged Brian to “feel the pain” of the song. Jon said Brian seems comfortable in his own shoes (good).

Brian is singing “This Ain’t a Love Song.” It’s not that great in terms of pitch but he’s giving more emotion than Jaydee. So he’s succeeding where Jaydee went wrong but not doing as well as Jaydee in terms of staying on key. Sass says it was powerful and emotional. Farley said it was melodramatic in the best way possible. Zack said that Bon Jovi’s advice was really good and that Brian sings from his heart. Jake says that this round went to Brian Melo.

===============commercial break=========================

Jaydee sings the Canadian Idol single. I think it is good. I think this could sell on the radio. He is freaking out, though and Zack just called him on it. He said that Jaydee is cracking under the pressure. Farley said he wanted to see Jaydee make the song his own. Jake said it was believable. Sass said that, especially for a song that is out of his genre, Jaydee did really well.

Jaydee treats his sister and Brian treats his mother to a make over.

=================commercial==========================

Brian is doing a better job on the lower register notes but those high notes were atrocious. I think Jaydee and Brian are trying to make my life hell. One is excelling where the other sucks and vice versa. I’m sorry this is not any better than Jaydee’s to me – just different. The judges, of course, just praised him.

Look, I’m just interested in the truth here and I think that Canadian Idol sux right now. There’s no way Brian didn’t deserve any criticism, just like every other week and it’s ticking me off! I think Brian is great but it doesn’t do him any favors to not get any constructive criticism and, maybe they couldn’t hear it in that arena, but Brian had some serious pitch issues.

AND I REALLY DID NOT APPRECIATE ZACK’S COMMENTS ABOUT GREG NEUFELD – K?

================commercial=========================

Jaydee is singing a song of his own choice. Tom Jones“It’s Not Unusual.” SERIOUSLY – IS JAYDEE INTENTIONALLY THROWING THIS COMPETITION? GOSH! Jake said it came off as a bit amateur. Sass said he looks good and was cool. Farley said he did a really good job. Zack said that he would chose Jaydee over Brian because he’ll make more money.

=============commercial=============================

Brian is singing “Hallelujah” and it is going better than that last song. It’s emotional but he is singing the same word over and over. He is a great talent, though. Sass said that he did an awesome job. Farley said it was touching and that it is clear that Brian is a really good person. Zack said that art transcends and doesn’t need to be judged. Jake said that he has humility which is great and that Brian’s 3 performances (yes, all three of them) were as good as any performance on this show ever.

    Weirdgrrl – I see your point. I guess I’m just kind of unhappy that they would want to influence the vote (other Idol shows like the French version, let judges vote so maybe they could consider this). It doesn’t really leave it up to Canada to decide… I really could be seeing this from a whole diff/wrong perspective, though.

    I also agree about the whole Jaydee being a cash cow comment.

    As for the reference to Greg Neufeld… borderline unforgivable.

    The whole Brian/humility comment irritated me too, though. Brian is humble, NO DOUBT but Jaydee also took some really harsh criticism all season, esp. from Jake and just smiled and thanked him.

    I have no idea who is gonna win and I don’t know who I actually want to win. I am thinking of it in terms of their different strengths and whether winning is going to be a good thing for them :(

    Jeanne, I understand what you’re saying about it being important to sum things up in the finale, but I also think it’s when the judges have the most right to show their partiality. This is their last chance to influence the outcome. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that (and I’m sure many people are going to disagree with me on that point). I agree that it’s not necessary to bash and that pointing out to Jaydee that he was cracking under the pressure was uncalled for, but Zach also said that Jaydee would be the bigger money maker out of the Top 2 which I thought kind of balanced things out.

    I don’t know, maybe my bias makes it impossible for me to see that the judges’ comments were unfair, so maybe you needn’t worry about taking my comments to heart but, to be completely frank, I didn’t have a problem with the judges’ comments at all… except maybe for Zach’s Greg Neufeld reference.

    It’s a reality show!….We all have our own likes and dislikes.That’s what makes us all unique.From a “professional” approach , not a “personal” one…God given … (coming from the heart and soul talent) both Brian and Jaydee have their own individual style, class and ability to shine.My persoal choice however for the Canadian Idol 2007 crown is Brian Melo! He has alot more “sparkle” to his shine!

    Thanks Natasha! That explains a lot. I had no idea where the judges’ comments were coming from because the show we saw was quite different from what you saw live. I’m no fan of Jaydee, but I rather preferred his rendition of the Idol song. At one point during Brian’s performance, he was screeching so hard that he was bent over and completely out of breath. It was not pleasant at all. I was almost certain the judges were going to comment on his “screaming” but it was just butt-kissing all the way.

    In the studio Brian sounds MUCH MUCH better. He gets the crowd going and it is unbelievable. We couldn’t hear Jaydee at all. When I got home from the taping, that is when I was able to hear Jaydee, and he wasn’t as bad as he sounds live. I think a lot of it has to do with Brian being able to touch the crowd, and get them going.

    I thought the Idol song was absolutely horrible. It’s the type of thing that would make me turn my radio OFF.

    Zack made a comment after Jaydee’s first song about the fact that they couldn’t hear them that well in the studio (I didn’t think it was that bad, but I guess the sound system in the theatre makes a difference). That must be what made them think that Brian’s rendition of the Idol song was so awesome… because it really wasn’t. I thought he sang “Hallelujah” well, though.

    I hope Brian wins.

    Meh… tonight was just a sketchy show all around. the performances, the judging…
    honestly, jaydee and brian would do much better without this CI disgrace on their backs.
    the judges, with their disgusting attitude tonight, have just lost the show what little credibility it had. even brian fans were weirded out by their comments.
    oh well.

    Jenn – I know that it is how the song goes. I just meant that, if it were me, I don’t know if I would have picked a song that was repetitious. I was NOT slighting Brian :) But, I mean, I think we feel similarly about Greg and Brian (me for Brian, you for Greg) except I don’t *hate* Brian. I just find him boring sometimes which is too bad because sometimes he is downright amazing.

    Weirdgrrl – I think, though, in the finals that it is important to sum things up. It doesn’t have to be bashing but honest. I think that it sends a bad message when, during the most important night, everything is “perfect” for one competitor and pretty dismal for the other. You can put praise where it’s due without having to be favoritist. I mean, if they were choosing not to make the complaints they’ve made all season, then the comments about being more physical for Jaydee would be omitted.

    I don’t know, Weirdgrrl, I love ya so I’m taking your words to heart :)

    Liss – you are terrible (but funny)! It’s funny you should say that because my grandmother was saying the same thing when I called her. She couldn’t understand why being pitchy is “part of someone’s style” (which I totally get) but totally trash someone for following your advice (a la Jake Gold).

    *confused*

    So – who did I vote for? I ended up voting for both. Disgusting, but I couldn’t choose.

  9. By Liss

    Jeanne, i agree with every single thing you said. Poor Jaydee. He was really nervous, you could read it all over his pretty little face. But his vocals were strong.
    Brian. oh melo, melo, melo. Could he screech any more for that Idol single? holy cow! i wanted to mute it, but my mom and sister wanted to keep laughing at him. i would buy jaydee’s over brian’s and i am not being biased here. brian’s voice was awful during that one.
    What else? Oh, yes. The judges. Dont get me started on them tonight. All i am going to say is, my mom watched CI for the first time all season tonight, and she had, obviously, no favourite. But she was appalled at the comments given to Jaydee, and the pimping Brian recieved despite his pitchy problems (which my mom noticed as well). mommy also said that jaydee was clearly the better singer, but that is beside the point :). oooh judges. you all deserve to be fired. exept for farley b/c he’s adorable and sass, who gives constructive criticism.

    AND NOW– the highlight of the night!!! JAYDEE’S SOCK COMMENT!!!!!
    OMG. I was soooo proud of him. He’s been taking unfair crap all season from Jake, who really gives him mixed messages (ie. do not imitate/you should have dressed like johnny cash). And to see him FINALLY stand up for himself… it was overwhealming. Jaydee has been so mature and polite. I, being also 17yr old, would have cracked much sooner, and much more angrily.
    jaydee stood up for himself. but with a lot of humour. and for that, i applaud him!

    I did not appreciate the Zach;s comment about Greg Neufeld either.

  11. By Jenn

    …Brian was singing the same word over and over because that’s how Hallelujah goes…

    And he is 324709275907 times better than Greg. I freaking HATED Greg. He could sing really well but he was so damn bland.

  12. By weirdgrrl

    I actually thought Brian’s sang all of his songs well and I had nothing to criticize about any of them. Brian may have the occasional off note, but with his style it still works. The judges have already commented on that several times in the past so why should they comment on it yet again? They don’t seem to think it affects the quality of his performances and neither do I.

    Seriously, if this competition is about talent and not about cute boys with potential, then Brian SHOULD win. Unfortunately, these reality shows rarely go the way they should, as we saw the week that Greg got the boot. But I am certainly having no struggle figuring out who I’m voting for.

  13. By Jeanne

    greatree – fair enough. I think that’s why I am having such a hard time. Brian is good where Jaydee fails and vice versa. I really think this is going to boil down to personal preference.

  14. By greatree

    Seriously though, as much as Brian doesn’t have a perfect voice, he is an actual performer. Jaydee is really cardboard. I would rather watch a head of lettuce, cut out some eyes and have that thing sing to me. I think Jaydee can be more than cardboard, but tonight wasn’t his night.

  15. By Jeanne

    I totally agree. Where is the criticism. I hate the fact that the judges on this show decide that they like someone and the person suddenly becomes perfect. How could Brian not get any criticism? It makes no sense.

    And how cruel is it to tell someone who is clearly nervous that they are cracking under pressure? That’s horrible.

  16. By Peter

    who to vote for??? I would buy both their albums… I have no idea who to vote for… jaydee or brian; there’s no clear winner except for greg. jk, maybe i’ll vote for both of them just to increase the vote count at least (that’s pathetic; nvm, i made up my mind… im going to vote for jaydee cause he’s my age and would def. put out a sweet album that’s unique and can be listened to over and over again…)

  17. By Nick

    I just find it weird that Canadian Idol judges hardly ever criticize. That’s what bugs me to hell about the show. Simon and Randy wouldn’t have been as impressed by this year’s finalists as these judges are.

    And looking at past CI finals, I don’t know they’d particularly have cared for a guy like Rex Goudie (who I thought was great, though even to this day I still can’t put my finger on why), or Jaydee Bixby (he hardly ever changed things up – but I suppose you stick with your strengths, so I commend him for not compromising himself, but it may have come back to bite him tonight from the sound of it), or Jacob Hoggard (who I thought was the MAN, but I don’t know if America would have gotten him).

    Anyway, best of luck to both guys. However, the best Idol winner’s song ever is still “Alive” from CI3.

  18. By maggie

    Could the judges make it anymore obvious that they want Brian to win…. I hope it works in reverse…. I wouldn’t buy any of Brian’s albums but I would Jaydee’s.. At least he can carry a tune.
