Last week, Canadian Idol host, Ben Mulroney, announced that someone from the Top 22 had dropped out and been replaced. Reports have come in with the details. Continue to the next page to find out!
Scarlett Burke was in the middle of answering phones and filing paperwork as she does every day when she received a shock: Landing a spot in Canadian Idol’s Top 22 round after one hopeful left the singing competition.
“I had gotten over the whole not making it,” said Burke, who had been among the 176 competitors cut from the contest after the judges chose the Top 22 contestants.
“Then they gave me a call at work … it didn’t really hit me when they told me that I had made it, so when I got off the phone I was jumping around,” the 18-year-old from Toronto said.
After Top 22 contestant Ritchea Hodge, 16, of Toronto, bowed out of the competition for personal reasons, judges Jake Gold, Farley Flex, Sass Jordan and Zack Werner chose Burke to fill the spot left by Hodge.
Burke said being called back because someone left the show doesn’t bother her.

It looks like Ritchea Hodge has dropped out for personal reasons and Scarlett Burke (pictured above) has been tapped to replace her. Here’s the report:
“I feel like everything happens for a reason. So if this is where I’m meant to be right now, then that’s where I’m meant to be,” she said. “I’m just lucky enough to be in the position where I can take the opportunity that was presented to me.”
Burke’s no stranger to the stage, either. During the run of The Lion King at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre, Burke played Nala.
“I was in The Lion king for 10 months … that was really so fun for me. It’s just great to be on stage again, it really is,” said Burke, who has also participated in festivals and other competitions.
Burke, who has a dozen years of singing lessons behind her, described her music style as an R&B/jazzy mix and said people can compare her to a combination of jazz greats Etta James and Billie Holiday, with the powerful backup of Whitney Houston.
“Music is my love, and like I said, whether it’s (Canadian Idol) or something else, music will always be a part of my life,” said Burke.
