Performance #8 – Martha Joy
Martha sings Celine Dion’s “Power of Love.” She has a good voice but there’s something that is so annoying. What is it? Please, I’m not putting her down but I need feedback here if it bothers you too. She had some sketchy moments during this performance but I’m sure people will vote for her.
Hey Howard, maybe you have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with Martha Joy, huh? And maybe you should lay off the CAPS LOCKS. Kthxbye.
I’m not here to debate the merits of past winners, I’m just pointing out that you’re doing your girl a disservice by suggesting she stick with the power ballads.
Before anyone tries to bash Martha Joy’s singing skills, i think you should first try singing any one of the diva’s songs. Perhaps then you can appreciate the difficulty of being able to only just to sing the song, but to sing the song powerfully and perfectly. Martha is singing songs that no other contestant would DARE TOUCH. None of them have the range or the power to even attempt. She is also the youngest competitor and perhaps doesnt have the sexiness that some of the girls have (thank God, because I’m sick of seeing half naked young girls exploit their bodies on stage). She is a true artist, putting in more time to harness her talent and her skill than many people will do in their lifetime. She’s dedicated to her voice capabilities, pushing them to their limits, with no fear and that is something to be admired. MARTHA JOY ALL THE WAY!
I agree with kcirmac. Martha you should sing another powerhouse ballad, maybe a Whitney or Mariah, they ain’t see nothing yet. Think wierdgrrl, some of these contestants would love to sing a Celine but they can’t, they don’t have the vocals for it. By the way, the past winners are not selling records like hot cakes, they are so forgettable, it won’t happen to Martha Joy, she simply unforgettable and why is everyone talking about her, good or bad, there must be something about MARTHA JOY, MAYBE SHE UNDENIABLY AMAZING, MAYBE SHE IS THE BEST SINGER IN THIS COMPETITION OR MAYBE THE WHOLE CANADA KNOWS THE SHE CAN SING, ANY OF THESE MAYBE’S WOULD MAKE A GREAT CANADIAN IDOL. WAY TO GO MARTHA!
Um… you think singing Celine Dion songs is what it takes Canadian Idol? Have you paid any attention to who has won this in the past and what they’ve sung? That really not the best advice to give this girl.
Martha keep doing what you’re doing. No one in that show can keep up with your powerful vocals. Sing more Celine Dion songs just to annoy others who don’t know what it takes to win CI. You are the best.
martha is the best of the remaining 9. she will be crowned the next canadian idol.

Martha does not annoy me. She connects with her audience. She is probably the best sixteen-year old singer in the history of Idol show. She is very likable and has a lot of screen presence.
Martha will be in the top 2. She will win CI running away.

im sure martha joy is a nice person, but we’re commenting abt her singing… and compared to a whole lot of other ppl ive seen, i’d say Ive seen much better belters..
Howard, while I commend you for being such a staunch supporter of your favourite, there’s no need to attack people who have different opinions (though I agree that Sid the Squid was out of line). Some of us would just like to see Martha Joy have more of an emotional connection to her songs. Why that should incur name calling is beyond me.
You guys are whole bunch of losers with nothing to say better about Martha Joy, you are bashing her for no reason. You don’t like her because she is annoying, she that, well kids, get a life because she gonna be the next Canadian Idol. She is the best singer in the competition and she is “undeniably amazing” according to Farley and Zack and the whole Canada loves Martha Joy, I bet you in person you all look like geeks with braces and you guys are using the net to feel impoertant and for you Sid the Squid, do your mother not a 16 year old girl, you’ll go to jail for that.

She’s all technique and no emotion, not to mention she’s kind of a … well, a bitch.
Quite frankly she just isn’t very good! Her annoying tone is cause by being off tune, and out of pitch. Please send her home.
I agree with weirdgrrl – I don’t feel she really connects with the songs she picks. I think they’re calculated choices designed to showcase her voice, and that’s only one part of performance. It’s also not what I’d buy a record based on – of my favourite singers very few of them have technically wonderful voices.
I also find it really odd that she’s so young, but that she seems to pigeon-hole herself doing really old music. I’d love to see her really cut loose and have fun.
I think my biggest problem with Martha Joy is that she’s all technique but has no emotional connection to the songs she sings.
I really don’t like Martha. I find her utterly annoying. I can’t put my finger on why, though.
Jordin was horrible and if I had to chose who was a better singer I would have chose martha. but Martha is not that bad tho she could get rid of that annoying tone
The annoying thing is that the judges keep praising her for having the best vocals but for some reason it’s just not coming through for me. I agree with shonac…the big notes just don’t sound very good.
jordin was 16 too and she was at least 5 times better, Martha needs more depth in her voice… she hold a note but so what? It doesnt sound very good…
and she sings all her songs by taking it really slow, breathing where she can so she can sing the ‘long’ notes… she has no originality either…:(
