Canadian Idol has completed it’s first round of live performances. So, how did the ladies compare to the men? I would have to give this round to the boys. If I had to pick the top 3 guys, I would have to go with Tyler Mullendore, Liam Styles Chang and either Brian Melo or Greg Neufeld (yes, I know that’s technically four but I couldn’t decide!). For the top 3 girls, I would have to say Khalila G, Montana Martin Iles and Mila Miller.
Bottom four: Clifton Murray, Derek Hoffman, Maud Coussa-Jandl and Naomi-Joy Blackhall.
DO YOU AGREE?

This year’s 22 has to be the most untalented, boring group of singers ever on an idol show. It’s obvious that the producers and judges wanted singers with a “gimmick”, and that any kind of mainstream singer is out of touch. I asked my 13 year old if Montana truly is what young people are looking for today………she said……..”Yeah…if you’re someone who is into cutting themself”. When the incredibly talented girl from Bowmanville was shockingly cut out of the 22, I knew that this season was going to be just a round of misfits and freakos. BORING
I think this year’s group are completely low on the talent scale. The only one worthy of winning this year is Liam. He really is fantastic!
If he doesn’t win then that show is completely worthless!
Being a music producer, I can see that the trend this year seems to be more towards what will sell records(and get TV ratings) and not so much about skill. There is some very promising but very raw talent mixed in to the group but generally, it seems like the Producers are looking more for an image than a voice. But can you really blame them? The entire recording industry has become just another marketing firm – turning singers into spokesmen and music into jingles, to pedal their wares…but I digress.
There is one clear talent in this whole gong show – Liam Styles Chang. Remember those three words becuase, wether or not he wins this competition and becomes Sony BMG’s new slave, I promise that will become a household name. Even if he loses, as soon as his contractual obligations to CTV, BMG, 19, and a host of others; are fulfilled, Record labels are going to be fighting for this kid and throwing fistfulls of cash, to sign him.
