Returning to the basketball court just 10 weeks after giving birth to her daughter Lailaa was no mean feat for Candace Parker. But the LA Sparks star is making it work, even if she has to pump breastmilk in the locker room before the game!
“This is something I think I can keep doing for Lailaa,” Candace told Newsday of her commitment to breastfeeding.
So baby gets her milk and Candace gets to follow her dreams on the basketball court, which is good for all concerned!
“I think you can still be a great mom and do what you want to do. I think following my passion is good for me and good for my daughter.”
Candace’s return was made easier thanks to her commitment to fitness during pregnancy and the support of her teammates, five of whom are moms themselves. But it hasn’t been easy. Lailaa’s frequently waking through the night, and getting back a pre-baby body is always a challenge.
“My core is not as tight and my legs are coming back but are not under me 100 percent,” she noted, before adding optimistically, “every day I am getting stronger.”
“I never wanted to sacrifice my career for my family or family for my career. I think there are a lot of mothers out there who have the same dreams and I would encourage them to follow them.”
Lailaa is Candace’s daughter with fellow basketball star and husband, Shelden Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
