American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, sang George Michael’s song “Praying For Time.” I didn’t super love it (I’m such a fan of the original) but it was a good song choice and she looked amazing.

She was amazing!
I agree!!! I thought this was such an amazing performance. I’m a huge fan, but sometimes live she isn’t always pitch perfect. This was an absolutely perfect performance in my book!
WOW…I thought it was GREAT!! And I have to say, she usually ALWAYS delivers a great, in tune, performance. Loved it!
i loved her performance!!!!!!!
Amazing..perfect for idol gives back…what a message…..I love the original, but this was absolutely incredible..tears…a duet would have been great with george micheal. Everyone give, thats what its about. Download the songs or donate the cash..I did!!
Thought Carrie Underwood was great at Idol gives back.
Season 3’s Diana Degarmo is writing a weekly column for US Weekly magazines website on American Idol. The column is great definitely want to check out US magazines website.
I thought this performance and Annie Lennox’s were the top performances of the night. Both of them put so much emotion into their performances and it was truly special to see!
The original version is so powerful. I like Carrie, but would have rather heard George sing it live. Guess I’ll have to wait for his summer tour! But I am glad she chose it…such a message for Idol Gives Back!
It was a good performance and she looked terrific, but I did think it was an odd song choice for her because I always heard the song as looking around at all the suffering (esp. children) and having doubts about God’s presence, which is counter to everything Carrie Underwood.
The song doesn’t doubt God’s presence, it’s saying that we’ve abandoned Him…
I didn’t love this song or the performance. I don’t think people have abandoned God but think we are all searching for guidance.
Besides that, I thought Carrie looked very disconnected and didn’t seem to get the right message across.
George Michael is quoted as saying “No event inspired the song. It’s my way of trying to figure out why it’s so hard for people to be good to each other. I believe the problem is conditional as opposed to being something inherent in mankind. The media has affected everybody’s consciousness much more than most people will admit. Because of the media, the way the world is perceived is as a place where resources and time are running out. We’re taught that you have to grab what you can before it’s gone. It’s almost as if there isn’t time for compassion.”
For the record Carrie’s always been one my least favorite Idol winners, not because she isn’t a great technical singer (she definitely is) but because she never made me feel anything when she sung…until this. I’d forgotten George Michael wrote this and I had to go back to hear the original. He’s still superb but the dated arrangement takes away from it. Now I realize that when given a worthy song, she can be tremendously affecting as I’m still moved by her performance; a clear and obvious high point for her.
SHE’S AMAZING! She’s probably my favorite Idol to date…..Followed by Kelly.
This was an increible performance.. I was about to cry
I guess George Michael was too busy to hear this awesome rendition of this song? It was an excellent performance. Keep it up, Carrie!
She looked beautiful as always, and she sounded amazing! Even Joshua Delcore agreed with me!
Josh Delcore asked me to put his name in a blog post. I thought this would be a great place. He can come and enjoy this lovely performance. I think that Carrie gave the song her personality and that is important.
well i disagree with u jeanne i think she was amazing and i loved it it was way better then the original and i hope she puts it on one of her new albums
I have seen carrie live twice. She is such a great vocalist with unbelievable talent. I still tear up when I hear this song. she sings it in her concerts on occasion and they changed the instrumentation up a bit. I think it’s better than the george michael version, not because I don’t like him but they are very different versions.
