This year the New Orleans Saints walked away the big winners at the 44th Superbowl, but before they took to the field Carrie Underwood sang the national anthem.
I think this was the first time I ever heard Carrie singing a bad note in all the times I’ve heard her perform. Most of the song was good but she hit a couple of bad notes right near the end. I have to add that I love Carrie, she’s one of my favorite Idol contestants and I would have voted for her that season if I was able to (I’m Canadian). I also have all of her albums and I think she’s a fabulous singer regardless of the national anthem.
It’s something that I’ve heard happen before, those places are so big and wide open and it’s really hard to hear yourself so she just went off a bit. Overall though, I do think Carrie did a good job most of the way through. I also love what she was wearing!
What did you think of Carrie Underwood’s national anthem?

I thought Carrie did a good job singing the national anthem but could have done without the Elvis outfit. Or was that Evel Knievel? However, about 95% of the time she looks absolutely stunning.

I was really expecting more from Carrie. It was just ok – maybe she couldn’t hear herself.

Listen to it again. Carrie sang “the lands of the free…” near the end of the anthem. Maybe she was just nervous and forgot that it is “land”.

Bravo to someone who actually has the guts to perform in front of 100 million viewers live, and acapella to boot. There’s a Youtube video that shows what it was actually like to be there. No wonder her last note was wobbly, she obviously couldn’t hear herself with all the cheering. And according to the person who posted the video, the live performance was very moving.
