Casey Thompson Whines About Carla

Most of us are still reeling over Carla Hall’s loss (and after such a triumphant rise, too!) on Top Chef last night. Carla did not trust her instincts and instead allowed her sous chef, Season 3’s Casey Thompson’s influence take over her food, which led to her demise. In the aftermath, what does Casey do to respond to her detractors? Why, talk major smack about Carla:

“Carla was not prepared and in over her head. The show did not talk about how the first course (crab) took her half of the friggin’ cooking time that day, I was left to work the rest of HER dishes.

She also did not have a plan. The ONLY thing she had in mind was a cheese course! I would NEVER do a cheese course. And where in the hell did french come from!? She is not even classically trained! It (the show) didn’t talk about how I worked on a sauce for 2 days and Carla forgot to put it on the plate… It didn’t show how the 2nd course (fish) was MINE. It didn’t show how she took the sous vide idea and decided to GRILL it last minute causing it to be tough… And it didn’t show how she WANTED to do the souffles which she does not even know how to make! That was HER food, because it certainly was me asking her how she wanted to do this and that while she was busy picking crab the entire time and making a souffle that didn’t rise!

I am done with TC. I did not influence her. She has NO ideas of her own, oh, except a cheese course.”

It sounds like someone is still bitter about their loss on season 3. Also, I have had it with reality cast members complaining about editing. If you don’t want to be edited, don’t go on a reality show. I’m sure any of the other previous eliminated contestants would have been more than happy to have taken her spot, as well as whatever Bravo paid her for her appearance. And if she’s looking to do damage control over her reputation now, talking trash about the classy and charming Carla, sending in this diatribe is not going to help.

Update: Casey is now claiming that she didn’t know her comments were going to be published, the editor at Side Dish says the blogger was clear she was asking for commentary that would be posted to the Internet. Here’s the thing about speaking off the record, you have to say it before you start vomiting at the mouth.

Very disappointed that Casey did not keep her mouth shut during the finale; and had mean things to say afterwards.

Carla should have shown greater leadership and stayed with her own vision and expertise. I’m sure she is more disappointed with herself, not anyone else. Tough lesson to learn, but I’m sure she will not let it happen ever again.

Shut your mouth Casey. You talk too much and are a loser…twice.

I didn’t like Casey on her own losing season and actually groaned out loud when she walked up on the finale. Right Casey .. Carla got to the F3 without any ideas of her own.

The thing about editing is, they cannot edit what you did not say/do. Go to Thailand. And stay there.

Carla Hall appeared on the 2/26/09 episode of “Talk of the Nation” on NPR, and she was, unsurprisingly, completely a class act. She talks about second guessing herself on the finale and she in no way blames Casey for what happened. So even if Casey’s “SideDish” quote is only partially true, Casey could learn in a lesson in class from Carla. Here’s the NPR link, if anyone is interested:

Carla was the most undeserving finalist ever – she could have gone home at any point in the first half of the competition, but kept squeaking by. No one wants to say it, but I see affirmative action at play, and people feeling proud of themselves for supporting a black woman. I don’t remember Casey displaying a bad attitude ever on her season, whereas Carla seemed unstable, especially that one time she snapped at Tom. But she’s a tall black woman, so no one better question her!

I’m only approving your incredibly ignorant comment so I can respond to it. Yes, Carla did squeak by but so did all the other contestants who made it to the end. Everyone had their bad days, except for Stefan who was very consistent in winning challenges, and even he didn’t win the title.

There is only room for one winner and one loser in each episode, so the goal is truly to just “squeak by” as to not get eliminated. The game is structured so your past performances do not come into play.
