I recently posted a few YouTube clips of Christina Aguilera that were taken by Hollywood.TV (Christina Aguilera Mobbed By Paparazzi, Christina Aguilera Movies & Dinner). In a previous post, I stated that Hollywood.TV always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
In one of these posts, I noted that I thought it was way crazy how the paparazzi swarm around people like Christina. But after having watched an interview on Larry King Live about the true relationship between paparazzi and celebrities I now feel a bit differently.
On July 25th, founder and CEO of Hollywood.TV Sheeraz Hasan was on Larry King Live to talk about Hollywood.TV and the symbiotic relationship between the paparazzi and stars.
Filling in for Larry King was “D-List Celebrity” Kathy Griffin. Joining Sheeraz Hasan on the panel were Jennifer Buhl, paparazzo, Attorney Mark Geragos, and Dr. Drew Pinsky, who has a new book about celebrity narcissism.
In the extensive interview (read full transcript), the panelists talk about celebrities and how they are fairly, or unfairly treated by the paparazzi. Kathy Griffin, sometimes on both sides of the camera, managed to ask very pointed questions about who, why, what, where, how much money and how can she benefit herself! Sometimes, she was a little too…Kathy Griffin for me. She was just a bit annoying talking over everyone, but she nevertheless seems to get her no holds barred points across – blunt, to the point, and mostly uncensored.

Hollywood.TV founder Sheeraz Hasan’s company has become one of the most recognized paparazzi/media outlets on the celebrity scene in Los Angeles. Make no mistake about it, this IS a business — with buyers, sellers and brokers. Photographs and videos of highly-sought-after celebrities can bring in big money.
In a recent outing with former Britney Spears ‘friend’ Adnan Ghalib, Kathy Griffin asked Adnan how much one of their photos would be worth. According to Kathy, Adnan replied that it could get a good amount of money, to which Kathy replied “50 bucks”. Adnan then stated that if she were to die (God forbid!) the next day, it would be worth a heck of a lot more than that!

If you think that celebrities are somehow victims of the paparazzi, think again. [Actually, click on the YouTube interview later in this post, and read the Larry King Live transcript of the entire interview.] According to the panelists, it is routine for stars, their agents or brokers to contact the paparazzi via phone, email or text message to let them know where the star will be, and when, so that the paparazzi can be there to capture the scene.
When celebrities contact these paparazzi outlets, their goal is to be seen, to be photographed and to have their photos or videos sold, or given, to media outlets who want to report on the celebrity sightings and/or news events.
It is a symbiotic relationship where one needs the other. The celebrities/stars need or want to be seen. Perhaps they have an upcoming movie, album, tour, TV show or other event, and they need the publicity. The media outlets need readers to buy what they sell, such as magazines.
According to the panelists, the media make it known to the paparazzi outlets that they need photos and videos of certain celebrities, like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Paris Hilton and the celebrities frequently make it known that they will be in a certain place so they can then be given their own press time.
Attorney Mark Geragos says that about 75% of celebrity/paparazzi encounters are [in some way] set up, although paparazzo Jennifer Buhl disagrees with that number.
They all agree that not all celebrities want to be photographed, and those who aren’t interested in it tend to be quite boring. But others, like Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus, have an ongoing relationship with brokers and paparazzi to alert them to their whereabouts or are very ‘generous’ with the relationship.
Obviously, getting/taking and posing for photos isn’t like this 100% of the time. The paparazzi have a job to do and if they can capture an A-list celebrity in an unusual or unexpected moment, their photo or video can become a hot commodity.
Celebrities don’t always want to be photographed, and according to the panelists, the stars all know where they should and should NOT be. They say that there is about a 2-mile radius in Los Angeles where all the paparazzi [and celebrities] can be found. Outside of that radius, the chances of being involved with paparazzi are significantly less. So, following this logic, it is expected that if a celebrity shows up in this ‘hot’ area, they will run into the bevy of paparazzi.
The interview is very enlightening, so watch the clip below and enjoy the ‘education’. For even more on this very interesting subject, read the entire transcript.
After you’ve watched the interview and/or read the transcript, let us know what you think about celebrities and paparazzi!
Thanks yet again to Hollywood.TV for providing another great clip!

Man! I don’t know how these celebrities put up with the paparazzi… losers with just one hobbie! Oh wait, Britney, Lindsay, Miley, Paris, and every other stuck up girl out there love the attention! Christina, on the other hand, is just normal around them. She doesn’t get crazy and all jumpy for people who do one thing for a living.
Would the paparazzi sink so low and camouflage themselves to look like some sort of odd thing just to get a story?
