In case you missed it, here’s the link to last night’s Fireside Chat podcast on Picktainment. In addition to the bevy of casting decisions that came down last week, we discussed how the bloodthirsty world of The Hunger Games — there are some spoilers for Mockingjay, so watch out — reflects Americans publicly celebrating Osama bin Laden‘s death.
The show’s guests were a great intersection of fandom and the professional world of books: Earlier in the show we chatted with Southern Utah University graphic design major Kim Shelby, who for her final project conceived of and shot several Hunger Games trailers. We rounded out the night by hearing from Betsy Bird, a children’s librarian from the New York Public Library; she discussed how the Internet and social media have helped series like Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Twilight create such engaged fan followings.
I’ll be popping in on Fireside Chat in the next few weeks, but make sure you tune in each Monday night at 10 p.m. EST.
