We’re back to Christina Aguilera 101!
I’m not sure how long Christina had been with The New Mickey Mouse Club when she sang Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing, but I’m going to guess it was in her second season, based on her appearance.
I find it amazing that at about 13 or 14 years old, Christina’s voice here far exceeds some of the American Idol contestants who (sadly) take a stab at a Whitney song. I can only remember one or two times that any Idol actually sang a Whitney song well, and they were all much older than Christina!
Christina exhibits such control in her voice, particularly when she goes into the lower register. Very often, when people sing in that lower register, they lose their voice; we don’t hear them. But Christina holds her own and we hear her very well.

I Have Nothing is one of my all-time favorite songs by Whitney Houston. I found an absolutely incredible live version of Whitney singing I Have Nothing in South Africa in 1994.
At this point in her career Whitney Houston was at her absolute best, and Christina Aguilera was just beginning her career. But I have to say, I would absolutely LOVE to see Christina sing I Have Nothing now, and even better yet, I’d love to see Christina and Whitney sing it as a duet! Wouldn’t you?

I agree, a duet would be good…. two people with outstanding voices make one great song! Speaking of American Idol, whatever happened to Taylor Hicks? Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have made it far with their careers… even Chris Daughtry who didn’t win has had some big hits!
