As promised, Christina Aguilera came to the VMAs to show everyone how it is done, and show us she did!
Christina is incredible!
The set opened with Christina way up high behind what looked like glass windows. She was wearing a black mask and a very sexy black outfit. She was writhing back and forth to the music and then I realized she was singing Genie in a Bottle! Talk about changing it up! The whole set was black and sexy and Christina looked like Cat Woman!
I was realllly digging the song but as soon as Christina descended to the ground floor at the first Genie chorus, the music changed and she went straight into Keeps Gettin’ Better. Disappointment! I wanted to hear this totally new version of Genie! I sure hope she does a full version of this new take on her new CD!

At Christina Aguilera’s MTV VMA performance, Christina came out with dancers on stage and gasp!…She was wearing the spandex pants! Well, this time I’ll let it slide because it totally worked with her outfit. But it makes me wonder if she was wearing them in…earlier this week!
Christina was wearing knee-high black patent boots, spandex black pants, a black patent belt and some funky other black patent vesting. Her mask was removed for Keeps Gettin’ Better and she danced up a storm! Totally loved the bangs!
Nearing the end of the song, some dancers put a sheer cape on Christina, and I’m not exactly sure why. It certainly didn’t add anything to her performance or look. I know that she says in the song, sometimes she’s a super bitch, so I was thinking the cape referenced this new super hero woman…but it was really unnecessary and a little distracting.
I loved the performance, but I wondered if Christina was lip synching. It just seemed that the music wasn’t fully matching her lips. But I could be really wrong on that.
Not disappointed by her peformance of Keeps Gettin’ Better, the song did sound much better performed live than it did on the audio clip we have heard recently. It’s a fun, fun song! Can’t wait for more!

Im a major fan of Christina. but I was really upset to see Britney Spears looking hotter than christina tonight on the VMA’s. yeah she just had a baby but her butt and hips are HUGE!!!! Britney looked liek death months ago and now she looks amazing. My husband stayed up way later than normal just to see her and he was so disappointed to see how ….much larger that area was…
Ashley, I know what you’re saying. Christina can look beautiful in that full length gown, but I think you’re right — she’s carrying some extra weight in the hips. She probably weighs all of 110 pounds…if! But the way she’s carrying it shows her to be quite hippy.
Britney DID look amazing. So slim.
Am I one of the few that didn’t really enjoy the performance? In some shots she looked a little like britney spears.
I am a huge fan of christina and her music but im not sure i like this new song at all. she may be ‘reinventing’ herself but this new song just doesn’t fit.

I don’t think you’re the only one who didn’t like her performance. I loved that she performed especially because we’ve waited soooo long to see her back out performing. So for the most part, I’d be happy with any performance.
However….I was NOT happy with what appeared to be Christina lip synching. Everyone is saying she did, so I can only guess that it’s true — unless someone can tell me otherwise!
I felt that for her first performance back out in public, she could have sung the song live. That was a big let down.
I do love the new version of Genie. But Keeps Gettin’ Better is just a new pop song. Nothing spectacular, just fun. I would be surprised — really surprised — if it wasn’t a hit.
You have a point about the reinvention — I don’t know though that Christina has said she’s reinventing — just that she has a new direction.
Anyone else have an opinion????
