On Thursday, September 25th, 2008, Christina Aguilera hosted a party given by Esquire benefitting Rock the Vote.
You may recall that early this summer, Christina appeared in a Rock the Vote public service announcement, where she quietly sang America the Beautiful to baby son Max as he lay softly in her arms, draped in the American flag.
Encouraging Americans to register and vote, Christina said, “It’s time to make history. It’s time to Rock the Vote.”
Christina was interviewed on the Red Carpet as she entered the Rock the Vote benefit. In the interview she talked about why change is badly needed, these are historic times, and how proud she is to be a part of this night. Christina is proud to be representing the next generation and that it’s important that everyone understand that their vote counts today!
“Freedom? It’s Everything!”
Christina said that without freedom, she wouldn’t be able to be an artist or a musician, make the videos or wear the clothes she does, if it weren’t for freedom, so “Thank God for that!”
Yesterday, I wrote an article that I posted on my personal blog at www.BetsysView.com. The subject is California’s Proposition 8, which seeks to legally discriminate against same-sex couples. The title of the article is Why I Oppose California’s Proposition 8 Eliminating Same-Sex Marriages.
Hearing Christina speak passionately about freedom and change, I am confident that Christina opposes Proposition 8. Christina has spoken publicly about California’s previous same-sex marriage ban, stating, “I think it’s really unfair that there has to be some kind of standard for marriage. Marriage should be about celebrating two people’s love for each other. It shouldn’t have anything to do with someone’s sexual preference…I’m just all about no judgment and (having) equal rights.” source
When asked by The Advocate magazine if she supported gay marriage, Christina said, "Yes. My trainer married her girlfriend last weekend and we went. It was beautiful. I was so touched by their vows to each other, I totally cried." She added, "I never get people who think being gay is some kind of choice…It really saddens me." source
Read the full Advocate interview from 2006 here. It’s a very long interview and a great read, even if you have already read it!
It is clear that Christina supports gay rights, gay marriage, and the right to choice and freedom. I encourage you to go read BetsysView and Why I Oppose California’s Proposition 8 Eliminating Same-Sex Marriages and see how you can support freedom and choice. Both Christina and I agree that the freedom to choose should be each person’s right.
Watch Christina talk about the importance of having a voice. And feel free to comment here and at BetsysView!
As Christina Aguilera says, “It’s time to make history. It’s time to Rock the Vote.”
If you haven’t registered to vote, visit Rock the Vote and do so now!

My friend Billy Garcia from CBS Survivor: Cook Islands sent me this note about the post:
“Here is my opinion:
To stop Same Sex Marriages is to go against a person’s First Amendment rights. Specifically: free exercise of religion and freedom of speech.
If someone’s religious beliefs allow for same sex marriages then to impede this is a violation of their constitutional rights. Furthermore a marriage is two people voicing the union of their lives.
To attempt to silence these voices is a violation of their constitutional rights. I support the opposition to Proposition 8 but the fight against this law should not be necessary.
This wonderful document called the United States Constitution is a declaration that we are a free and equal people and that our freedom and equality can not be impeached or breached. Any law that comes into existence that impeaches or breaches our freedom and equality is Fascist.
So in closing, I condemn such Fascist laws as Proposition 8, The Patriot Act, and other such attacks on freedom.
My heart goes out to those in California that are having to fight for their liberty and equal rights.
If you have a bible you should read it.
Leviticus 20:13 & 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
13 ” ‘If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
