Clay Aiken Interview in New York Magazine

Clay Aiken Clay Aiken fans will already know that he is living in New York while he appears in "Spamalot" on Broadway.  New York Magazine caught up with Clay to find out how he’s faring in the Big Apple.  It’s actually a pretty amusing read if you don’t mind the fact that the writer writes out some of what Clay says phonetically in order to capture his southern accent.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Let’s not fool ourselves.  The truth is? There are people like Justin Timberlake, males who are cool on radio right now, and then there’s me. If I heard myself in a dance club? If I went into a dance club—which I never do—and I heard Clay Aiken come on, I’d roll my eyes and get out. But you know what? I’m fine with being kind of vanilla! It’s oh-kye!” In his book, Aiken says that it’s not just clubs but also bars he dislikes: “The only reason people go to bars is to get drunk and have sex. To me, bars are what hell is like.”

Clay Aiken will definitely do fine. His new album On Our Way Here debuted at number 4 on the Billboard Album Charts. He is one of the most successful American Idol alumni’s according to album sales and has now completed a successful run on Broadway.

Diana Degarmo was another American Idol Runner up who had a great run on Broadway in Hairspray. Diana also played Maria in West Side Story and starred in Brooklyn.

Diana Degarmo has some great new pictures on her new MySpace page. Definitely want to check them out. She has many new updates as she gets ready to embark on a country music career. Some of her new contacts on the MySpace page are Dolly Parton, LeAnn Rimes and James Otto. Many of the top songwriters in Nashville such as Trevor Rosen and Shanna Crooks.

Definitely want to check it out at:

All of the runner ups from American Idol have had great careers so far: Clay Aiken, Bo Bice, Diana Degarmo, Justin Guarini and Blake Lewis. They will continue to rock on.

Now that Mr. Aiken’s run in Spamalot is finished, now that he has made valuable friends in the Broadway community and impressed important people, now that ticket sales to Spamalot have plummeted after he left, I want to know one thing from Ms. Levy. Do you really think New York “cracked him like an egg”? I think it may have been the other way around.

What’s the inside scoop?!? After reading Ariel Levy’s profile on Clay Aiken, I’m convinced Mr. Aiken must have done something unspeakable to the poor woman. Shame on Mr. Aiken for being born in North Carolina instead of hip Larchmont, NY! Boo to his mother for taking little Clay on vacations to the Carolina seashore when she should have jetted him to South Beach for weekends at the Shore Club! And what idiot dedicates a book about his youth to his Mom when he could have dedicated it to Britney Spears or JLo??

I would so enjoy a profile on Ms Levy, preferably with phonetic spellings reflecting her sophisticated, New Yawk accent. And, please, find the least flatteriing photo ever taken of her to enhance the profile. I’ve never met Clay Aiken, but Ms. Levy’s profile makes me want to run – screaming – to his defense.

The so-called reporter who wrote this is lazy, a fake and dishonest to boot. I agree with Jean’s comments…she has patched together a fake interview and presented it as something new. Shame on her. And that picture looks NOTHING like Clay Aiken…what’s with that?

Oh, this woman makes New Yorkers look bad. So there is a small area of NYC where being cheesy is good? Yeah, she is unbiased.

Just a quick note – for some reason she had two meetins with Clay and did not get the “story” she wanted – so she had pieced together a lot of stuff from a book he wrote 5 years ago, only put together bits and pieces to kind of change the story a bit, and then gathered stuff he said in other interviews and patched it together to be this “hot mess” and capped it off with using a picture which was photoshopped or taken with a fun house camera lens. Then she takes a few sentences actually unique to her and who knows what she asked or even what he answered. There is just no journalism, she apparently thought this was an “art piece”. I would not call this an interview, tha would have questions and answers.

Some people like the review, I say it is basically worthless. Line your bird cage with it.

How sad for me is it that I know he has stopped saying some of the things she “quoted” years ago? She really should not take stuff from other sources without crediting them.
