Comeback King Lance Armstrong Puts Family First

The decision to return to racing was not one cyclist Lance Armstrong took lightly. He was determined not to sacrifice time with his children, nine-year-old Luke, and seven-year-old twins Isabelle and Grace. So he simply works around them!

“My schedule this year pretty much revolves around my kids’ schedule,” he explained. But he couldn’t do it alone. Lance says his ex-wife Kristin Richards Armstrong’s understanding has been key.

“Kristin has been the real hero and very helpful to me and understanding on this comeback,” he said.

“It’s not optimal that I fly from here back home for five days before the Tour of California. That’s the schedule Kristin and I have set out and the kids want to see their old man. I will always travel back and forth to have quality time with my kids. That’s what we’ll do this week and so all that will stay the same as it was the first time.”

Lance’s children have always been on the sidelines cheering him on when he won the Tour de France, and he insists it’ll be no different this July. He’s expecting a baby with girlfriend Anna Hansen in June, and he wants that little one at the finish line as well!

“He or she will be at the Tour, for sure.”
