“Confessions of a Shopaholic” DVD Review

Krysten Ritter (Lucy on Gilmore Girls) co-stars in the Disney comedy Confessions of a Shopaholic, which comes out on DVD and Blu-ray on June 23, 2009.

In Confessions of a Shopaholic, Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) moves to Manhattan to pursue her love of shopping and her career in the fashion magazine world. She has a great flat with her friend Suze (Krysten Ritter), who tolerates her crazy ways but can’t reform her shopaholic friend, no matter how much debt she gets into! Rebecca takes a job writing a financial advice column (oh, the irony) as her “step up” to her dream job. Her articles, written for the everyday person, propel her to fame. Which would be great, except for the debt collector hounding her every move.

The movie is poignant at times. It has a classic romance, and fabulous best-friend story, and follows Rebecca as she tries, over and over again, to battle her own demons while still reaching for her dream. It takes Rebecca a long time to learn that her shopping addiction is hurting her - and it takes hurting those around her for Rebecca to ‘see the light’, so to speak.

Krysten Ritter had a larger part in the movie than I expected. Her own character, Suze, was spunky and interesting too – though in different ways. As you can tell from the photos, Suze is getting married in the film!

All in all, I enjoyed the movie. It was predictable in a Disney way, but very satisfying. A great chick flick!

Lol! In the book Suze and Tarquin get married! They are distant cousins! Or do you mean there is no Luke? Puzzled!

Not seen the film but read the book a gazillion times!!!

I agree, when they base movies on books, the movies are never as good as the books are. “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” was an excellent book but the movie sucked. All of John Girsham’s books are very good, but have yet to see a movie based on one of his novels that I enjoyed. They have to leave too much of the detail out when they make them into movies and if you’ve read the book first you will be diappointed with the movie.

I’ll probably skip the movie on this one and just read the book instead! Never really liked Lucy on GG anyways, thought she was good on Veronica Mars though!

Hated the film but loved the book even thougth it wasnt really the sort of thing i normally go for. Ritter plays the part well though – very lucyesque.

I was taking an advanced creative writting course at the time this came out at the cinema so watched and read this in order to compare the movie and the book. They were so different from each other I found it hard to believe they were based on the same storry.

Tarquin who plays Suze’s cousin in the book is her fiance in the movie – now thats just wrong lol.
