Crushable Quoteable: Brett Ratner Apoligizes For Homophobic Comment, Waxes Poetic About Storytelling

It’s been quite an for our pal Brett Ratner. To recap: last week, he claimed a grease-soaked affair with Olivia Munn, but it turns out that was a lie. And on Sunday at a Tower Heist screening, he offered the delightful astute and tolerant comment, “Rehearsing is for fags.” Brett has now come forward to apologize for that homophobic remark:

“I apologize for any offense my remarks caused. It was a dumb way of expressing myself. Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t have a prejudiced bone in my body. But as a storyteller I should have been much more thoughtful about the power of language and my choice of words.”

First off, I think that as a society we’ve become a little lenient with the term “storyteller.’ These days, any teenage girl with a Tumblr is basically Aesop. Secondly, it doesn’t matter how quickly you apologize or how readily your friends will come to your defense, using terminology associated with homophobia counts as prejudice. The saga continues! Brett’s behavior shaping up to be way more interesting than Tower Heist.
