Danielle Staub's In Denial Until She Gets Paid

We only have two more episodes of Real Housewives of New Jersey — tonight’s & next week’s to be followed what should be a spectacular reunion show. Let’s dig in to the only reason this show is good — Danielle Staub. While Teresa is entertaining & the Manzo women plus Jacqueline provide good family drama, Danielle is the only truly interesting part of this show. Her unabashed neediness and delusion give the show some depth. And oddly enough, she looks like she has a good relationship with her daughters. Her oldest daughter Christine at least, knows what’s up.

However, her denials of what happened in her past in last week’s episode are suspect. I, for one, do believe the tales told in Cop Without a Badge “>Cop Without A Badge. Basically, the facts outlined in the book are these:
  • Kevin Maher was an informant for the FBI, the “cop without a badge”
  • He met her while working, back then she went by “Beverly Merrill
  • She was out on bail for kidnapping & extortion, her boyfriend (a drug dealer) held up a kid for the money he owed him for a whole weekend. They were found out when they went to Western Union to pick up the funds.
  • He was instrumental in getting her a plea deal; she was able to walk away with just probation & pled guilty
  • They moved in together and she started stripping again, which Maher didn’t like
  • At some point, they were married
  • They both did a lot of cocaine and had a lot of “explosive” sex
  • At the end of the book, the last anyone had heard from her was in 1992, when she was still dancing at a NJ strip club.

Her version of events is that she was returning from a modeling trip and that her boyfriend had a huge house with 30 bedrooms, so how could she possibly know what he was doing? What involvement Danielle did have in the kidnapping is really anyone’s guess; it didn’t even seem like Maher knew the real truth (he was too blinded by all the sex they were having) but Danielle’s current version is very far fetched.

In any case, she seems to be buttering herself up to sell the rights to this or any other imagined tale from her past: her Bravo blog says that she can’t talk now but we’ll all find out later. Kevin Maher has sold his story to Star and talked to Gakwer’s John Cook.

He added that Danielle was also a paid escort and that the other men involved in the kidnapping were jailed because of her testimony; one was a “high-level” Colombian drug dealer. Maher still claims to be worried for Danielle’s safety, now that she’s so visible, the two men she helped jail (who have since been freed) will be after her.

What do you think is the real deal here? Do you think Danielle is lying? Or do you believe Kevin Maher?

Good god this season was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too short! But I did love it and Danielle’s craziness totally made me addicted to it! But why is this season shorter than all the other Housewives seasons?

When she said she was modeling in mexico, i totally think she meant she was doing porn in mexico. you know, like how stripping is dancing. but she totally seems out there that it wouldn’t dawn on her that going on a reality would be a problem. i mean, she thought she was in love with a 26 yr old who is clearly a 38 year old.

I think they have both skewed the truth to fit how they wish themselves or the other person, or both, to be perceived. Probably a bit of fact, a bit of fiction, to both versions of events.

Maher has dollar signs in his eyes and Danielle is trying to protect herself and her (ahem) reputation. They will both spin it however they need to, to get what they want. Neither of them is credible, neither can be totally believed. But both are car-wreck interesting!

What were there…. like six episodes total? Weird.

I am sure there are omissions and plenty of embellisments from any party who have any chance of financial gain. She did something no doubt. It was just done so long ago. She has lived there longer than some of the other wives and I dont know and dont really care but I hope and believe it has been without incident aside from the current drama. I always say there is no bad publicity. It is time to spin. I bet that since it seems Danielle is the one member of the show that is hurting for cash. I have a feeling she wont be for long. I hope she uses the money to get the much needed counseling that she needs for her self esteem issues. That guy was horrific if I had known nothing else about her knowing that would have made me come to the same conclusion.lmao. I need counseling to date that 26,29,38 year old guy.lol. she seems to have done a good job with her kids. I think the others also have skeletons and they should be dug up too.lmao. Keep it fair and all.lol. Danielle is my absolute favorite, keeps me entertained and at the end of the day, that is all I watch for.lol. I wrote a darn book.lmao. Good night everyone.

My real question – if I get this right – this all supposedly came to surface because Dina decided to do a background check on Danielle since Daniele supposedly wanted to be Dina’s friend? Did I get that right? Who does background checks on their potential friends? And then Dina says in her blog that she wanted to “keep it in the family” – but then gets filmed holding up the book? Talk about people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

I read the book. My take was that Beverly/Danielle was a coke whore – who knew better than to get involved in her dd boyfriends problems. The book seemed to imply that she wasn’t really involved in the kidnapping and extortion stuff – beyond sitting around watching it happen. And does it count as Kevin and Danielle being married – when Kevin was already married to somebody else?

I think Maher summed it up best in the book (pg. 236) regarding Beverly/Danielle:

“This is a good person. She has no morals, but she’s a good person.”

What I want to know is who is Danielle’s soon-to-be-ex husband. Who is Mr. Staub?

I’m not sure, actually! I THINK that the season was shot last year and was supposed to go on last year before Atlanta, then it got shlelved. I’ve seen some rumors on forums that there was some legal problems, but with Dina, not Danielle. I guess we will find out all at the reunion!
