David Archuleta took home the “New Artist Award” at the 2009 Alma Awards last week and he performed this acoustic version of “Contigo En La Distancia” and it was absolutely, unequivocally beautiful. If you can listen to this and not believe that David is incredibly talented you must be deaf. Even if you don’t like his style, you gotta admit that this kid has got some pipes!
Of course, he also looked so adorable! He’s gotten so good at conveying emotion in his performances too. So, sooooo good!
He was breathtakingly handsome, classy and stunning. I will add COURAGEOUS. Here we have an 18 year old who is performing in front of millions of native speaking Latinos/Latinas (?) in Spanish when he’s never performed a song in Spanish before. His pronounciations would surely be scrutinized, and he was flawless. Secondly, here we have an 18 year old who is performing live in an acoustical arrangement before an entire audience of gifted and seasoned performers. That would be somewhat intimidating for anyone! He was confident, passionate, pure, powerful, and professional. I hope that we will be treated to many performances like this in the future.
I agree kerri! I thought nothing could ever top the way I was stunned watching David sing Imagine that first time on idol. And then he goes and does this! Only David can thrill us by jumping around the stage singing songs like Zero Gravity and turn around to give this emotional, perfect rendition of Contigo en la Distancia! Yep, fan for life right here folks!!!
Perfect interpretation of the song by David Archuleta. He’s really been growing and stretching his work since AI. I can’t wait to see where he goes with his talent and ability.
David , thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for your outstanding performance at the ALMA’S. You have awakened …those who have been sleeping…with your beautiful rendition of Contingo. It is really hard to find the words in the English language that describe how you performed, and what we felt while you were singing. You were able to capture our hearts and soothe our souls with every single note!! I did not even understand what you were saying, but it did not matter!! I have never ever heard a song, of any description by any artist, sung so beautifully!!! You are a such a master and musical genius in command of your talent. Your inner radiance is always shining brilliantly. You are like a beacon…bringing us all a little closer, and helping us reflect your beautiful heart and soul to others. You have “gifted” us everyday with so much love…we will never be able to thank you enough. One thing is certain, we will always be your fans. We feel blessed to be able to follow and support your jouney. We love you David.
This is the most beautiful performance I have ever heard. I thought when he did Imagine that I would never hear another quite so lovely but then he appeared on the ALMAs. How does he do this? Goes on the stage looking like a million dollars, sing a beautiful song in Spanish(never done this before on stage), on top of that acoustic with that great guitar player, and then he puts so much emotion into it it brings tears to your eyes. Then after it is over and everyone picks their jaws up off the floor he smiles that beautiful smile and so humbly walks off the stage. Only David Archuleta could do this. If I didn’t know better I would have thought he had performed this song many times before………one word for this performance is AMAZING!
I am totally gobsmacked by David’s rendition of “Contigo En La Distancia.” I believe this performance will take a turn in his career, it could only get better from here. Millions have now witnessed the brilliance of his performance that night. Congrats David for winning an Alma Award, it well deserved!!!

stunning is the word used most often in the media and press to describe this performance, and it is apt. david has a way of rising to the challenge, and to the occasion, and he has risen to new heights with his rendition of ”contigo en la distancia”… the world is taking note and it is high time this young man received his due and his props from the music industry, the american media and those who were so short sighted and dismissive of his talent, and ability to deliver in the mainstream.

Thanks for the great review! completely true! Everything about David’s performance was PERFECT! David Archuleta is amazingly talented; a remarkable human being. I feel bad for those people that still don’t want to admit how incredibly talented David is; it’s their loss not to enjoy the beautiful gift David is giving us with his heavenly voice, with his beautiful personality. I have seen David in concert a few times; each of his performances is magical, powerful, out of this world. I can’t stop watching this video; and I’m also very excited for his Christmas album which will be released on October 13th; I’m sure it is going to be a work of art. David Archuleta is simply THE BEST!
His best performance on a TV/Award show yet, breathtaking! Paaah, what am I saying?! Best performance on a TV/Award show I have seen in a while by ANY artist, male or female, young or old. And look at him being all suave and smooth on stage! To me he’s always been incredibly good at conveying emotion. But with this performance he took it to a whole new level. That award is more than well deserved! Now it’s even harder to wait for David’s Christmas album (release date Oct 13th!)! haha
