David Beckham, AC Milan Out at UEFA Cup

David Beckham and AC Milan had a disappointing run at this year’s UEFA Cup. Yesterday, AC Milan took on Germany’s Werder Bremen at home and squander a 2-0 lead to walk away with a 2-2 tie.

Milan and Werder Bremen also tied their last game for the UEFA, with a 1-1 score. The two draws means that Werder Bremen moves on because they scored more away goals.

AC Milan started off strong, scoring two goals early. Andrea Pirlo converted a penalty kick and Alexandre Pato scored shortly after. The game was nearly 3-0, but David’s free kick was blocked by a defender.

Here’s a video with some of the highlights from the game:

Before the game, David chatted briefly with the press about his situation regarding AC Milan and the Los Angeles Galaxy.

“Of course (it is frustrating). There’s a lot going on and a lot being said and every day someone is asking me questions about what’s happening,” he said. “It needn’t be said every day, but so far I am trying to concentrate on the football. At the moment we’ll have to see what happens. At the moment it is being discussed and negotiated.”

The Galaxy are expecting David back on March 8, so this issue needs to be resolved quickly.

Werder Bremen has Claudio Pizarro to thank, as he converted two headers into goals in the 68th and 78th minutes of the game. Milan couldn’t rally, resulting in a big disappointment for them.
