Dennis Quaid had quite a scare last year after his newborn twins Zoe and Boone were hospitalized after accidentally being given a huge overdose of a blood thinner. The babies, he says, are now “doing great” even though he and his wife, Kimberly, are now feeling the effects of sleep deprivation: “The kids are fantastic and really healthy and happy kids” he said at a press event for his new film Vantage Point. “I’ve just been sleep-deprived… Last night, was the first night they slept all the way through the night, from 7:00 p.m-5:30 a.m.”
He’s also finding this second experience with new fatherhood a little easier than the first (he has a 15-year-old son named Jack Henry with ex-wife Meg Ryan). “Well I don’t know if it’s better but it’s a lot easier. It’s easier in the sense that … when the first one comes along you worry about everything. The second ones come along, ‘Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah that’s fine, seen that, done that’… You’re a little more relaxed about it. But with two, you need another arm.”
I’m really happy and relieved to hear that his babies are doing much better (and that he got a full night’s sleep!).
