So as we pointed out yesterday, Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley (husband of Avril Lavigne) has been drinking a lot of wine and then blogging on the band’s MySpace blog about the musicians who inspire him. He’s been calling them “The Red Wine Chronicles.” Yesterday’s subject was former Beatles member John Lennon. Today, Deryck brings the focus on the Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan himself! Check it out below:
THE RED WINE CHRONICLES- DYLAN
here’s one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists of all time. bob dylan. the first video is the actual song that was recorded for his album, which i, along with stevo think is fucking brilliant. the second video is him performing his brilliant song to an audience that won’t give it the chance even before they hear it. to understand the context here, it’s around the mid 60’s, bob dylan is one of the most important artists in the world and most people are writing him off all of a sudden as a hypocrite because he has now decided to start adding electric instruments to his music. the funny thing is is the song is actually amazing and it shouldn’t be judged on how it’s being played. the thing that should always matter is what song is being played. it doesn’t always come down to the instruments in the arrangement. the sad thing is, in the end it doesn’t always come down to the song in most people’s mind. it comes down to perception. either way, i think this song is amazing, so i want to share it with anyone who hasn’t heard it before. my favorite part is when he laughs in the middle of the lyric!

as a side note, remember, when i write these things, it’s late at night and quite a few glasses of red wine in. the reason i started writing these is because everyone else i know is sick of hearing me talk about it and have gone to bed. so if you wanna join me, pour a drink and listen to the good music i post. and please forgive my bad righting, wait, writing. ya!!
thanks,
deryck
