"Wrong! Anyone who says that the Harry Potter books were not published around the time that Sarah Palin was in office is a nitwit who probably doesn’t have a high school diploma!"

Wrong! This is called setting up a straw man. In logic, a "straw man" argument is one where the characterization of an opponent that leaves out important facets. By setting up the straw man, a debater can easily knock it down and rhetorically win an argument. But they didn't really beat the real opponent, only a made-up one, like a scarecrow.

The above poster, Erica, did NOT say that the Potter books wasn't published "around the time" Palin was in office. She said: "Potter wasn’t even published at the time of this alleged banning"

"First novel published in 1997 was “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, which was retitled in the United States to “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Harry Potter books were not published just yesterday, so the article up above where it states that Sarah Palin tried to ban Harry Potter books is true."

No, its not true. The original urban legend that claims Palin tried to ban Harry Potter books places the date of the attemped banning in the year 1996. A year before the first Harry Potter book was published.

In order to try to make this lie true, you twisted some facts around....setting up your strawman, your argument of falsely claiming that Erica said that the Harry Potter books were not published "around the time" Palin was in office, when Erica did NOT say that. Again, what she did say: "Potter wasn’t even published at the time of this alleged banning", is accurate. The time of this "alleged banning" is 1996. Erica is absolutely correct, and you are the nitwit.

The urban legend also included a list of banned books, and the falsehood that it was a list of books that Sarah Palin tried to have banned (in that list was Harry Potter books). And the urban legend also claimed that this info came from the official minutes of the Wasilla Library board, which it did not.

PLEASE don't believe everything you read. The list circulating is false. Palin has already said she has NEVER even tried to ban books and this was a misunderstanding. ANYWAY, Potter wasn't even published at the time of this alleged banning anyways. PLEASE read the facts and stop spreding these stupid rumors.
