Well Jeanne, I agree with your opinion. Although I can not speak for CI, I can say however, that AI this year was full of crap. It definitely did not compare to the past Idol years. I can not say which season I enjoyed more but I can say that season six was a disgrace. I recently watched Idol Rewind and they were showing the first season and you are right it seems the judges focused a lot more on the actual vocal talent as opposed to looks and popularity. The whole Sanjaya fiasco was aggrevating at best. Here was a young lad who can sing a little bit but in my opinion and many others, he wasn’t quite strong enough for this level of competition but yet remained on the show. People were voting for him solely on his looks and crazy hair-do’s and some even voted for him just b/c he was so horrible and wanted to trash the show b/c they didn’t like it. Once again America has proven that the voting system sucks. They really need to change that system now that they see that the public has the power of manipulating the contest for the worst person to win. That website votefortheworst.com has started a whole new level of voting. I feel this year it’s going to be even worse and that is so unfair to the real talent.

Remember the light skinned girl with the curly hair that didn’t even make it to the top 10 or 12 that had a great voice? I am so happy for her that she didn’t get far on Idol b/c she just signed with Motown!!! It is becoming a situation where being on and winning Idol isn’t the real prize at all. I can understand why Chris Sligh said he didn’t want to win, or why Mario quit last season…by the way he gave an AWESOME show at Seminole Hard Rock out by the pool :) …..anyway, my point is it is better for one’s career if they just make it to Idol to get the exposure and get a better deal than the winner. This has been proven almost every season. As it is Blake may have a better album than Jordin. She has only recorded 4-5 songs where he has already laid down 8 or so. I’m surprised she is not striving for more than what they are giving her. She seems content with the songs whereas Blake is all about doing his own thing, which is how it should be.

All-in-all American Idol has indeed become disappointing.

I 1000% agree with what you said about AI. (Can’t comment on CI, because I’ve never watched it.) AI6 was nothing but a snore fest with the occasional melody of discontent.

The only contestant of season six that would have me digging into my wallet to purchase her album is Gina Glocksen. She is not the most original person (How many teens have you seen hanging around Smoothie Joe’s wearing tight jeans and black tees?) but IMO, she pulls out the glamour-punk cross quite nicely. (Unlike the wannabe’s that you see floating around.)

My first year watching Am Idol was Season 5 and loved it, bought tickets to the tour and enjoyed it much more than I had thought. Many were better on tour than on the show and besides my favorite, I have found myself following up on several of them.
So I was really looking forward to Season 6 and I was very disappointed. So much time was wasted on “frills’ instead of invested in the singers. It was obvious the producers didn’t think the talent could carry the show on it’s own.
Am Idol is already promoting next season when they haven’t even wrapped up Season 6. That tells me a lot about what the producers thought of the group.
Season 5 was such a stellar group, I don’t know what it will take to top them.

Most of us loved Season 5 because of the quality and diversity of talent. But after reading in Taylors book how he tried to organize the final 24 to get paid for their services, it does not surprise me that what idol wanted for Season 6 were contestants they could manage. No more experienced pros. Outside of Melinda wonderful voice (but I hated watching her) season 6 just stunk. And I can’t imagine how boring the tour shows are. Chris, Taylor, Bucky, Ace , and Ellott and Kelly just lit it up last year. Other girls weren’t bad either. And the shadow tour shows from Taylor were so exciting and must of driven AI nuts. Special year that I don’t think they can ever repeat.

I agree with all your comments about American Idol. In Australian season 5 was aired on TV just before season 6 started in the US – I watched online as I knew we’d have to wait forever. I came into it from the high that was season 5, and it didn’t even come close to measuring up.

I came to Canadian Idol this year because I was missing Idol generally, and I was thrilled they were including instruments as Australian Idol does. While I have nothing to compare it to in terms of previous seasons, I love it. I have so many favourites, and that reminds me of the excitement I felt over AI5. I was as shocked as you were when Greg and Liam left, but unfortunately that’s the nature of the beast. When you put the power in the hands of the public there’ll always be upsets, and it’s not really anyone’s fault. There’s still enough going on to keep me excited – I love Carly Rae and Brian Melo and am always thrilled to see what they’ll pull out.

Btw – Australian Idol is putting videos of every performance up on their website, there’s already plenty of auditions vids, if you care to watch :-)

Im not disagreeing with you hear. And I TOTALLY agree with you on Jordin. I know you want to keep things civil around here, but i think we’re thinking the same thing…Jordin winning was absolutely absurd, disgusting, manipulative, embarrassing and an absolute TRAVESTY for the show. Phew.

But I think S5 was kinda overrated. Their concert sucked and the S6 concert was pretty darn good. I’d rather hang out w/ the S6 kids; S5 was all diva’s *SNAPS*

At least your opinion is an honest one. American Idol should get rid of “Idol Awards” it’s stupid. That time could be given to the finalists so they can perform more, it’s their night afterall. Those who didnt made it had their chance during the auditions. Season Six sucks … period.

I will start by saying I totally agree that season 6 was nothing to get excited about. It was like season 3 for me where I was really not overly excited about anyone. At least in 3 Fantasia was the clear winner. Melinda did of course go too early. I also agree Season 5 was the best season ever. I am a bit partial as I am a huge Bucky Covington fan but on a whole I really enjoyed everyone in the top 10 whether they were my style of music or not. To think the 8th place contestant that season is doing better than most winners of the show. I think in part they are doing so well because season 5 had something for everyone. So each contestant gained their own fan base who was willing to stick with them. Their mutual like for each other I also think helped because I think more fan bases actually bought several of the cds. I know I bought Bucky Chris Taylor and Kellie. You had real musicians in season 5 as well. Not that there weren’t a few in 6 but it wasn’t as obvious. Miss those LMBO shows! Everyone who doubted Bucky should go see him live with guitar in hand and his band. Bet it changes your mind.
