It’s been awhile since we’ve had a proper discussion thread here on PittWatch – although we often have great conversations anyway!
This discussion came to mind because of a comment that PittWatch reader Neil made in this post. The comment was: “What I would REALLY LOVE to see her do is a TV turn with Gabriel Byrne in the HBO serial “In Treatment”. THAT would be heaven for me.”
That prompted the conversation as to whether it would be as though Angelina Jolie was “lowering” herself to appear on a television show. The thing is, as I said in those comments, the lines between television and movies have really faded away compared to years ago. Now a lot of television actors film movies while the show is on hiatus (and many of them are quite successful) and many movie actors have appeared as guest stars on television or even moved to a regular TV show (such as Sally Field who is an Oscar-winning film actress but is now on the critically acclaimed Brothers and Sisters).
I don’t necessarily want Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie to do a regular television role although that would mean seeing them more often. However, I did think it would be fun if one or both of them did a guest appearance at some point.
Just for fun, what show would you love to see Brad or Angelina guest star in?
My favorite show on TV is Criminal Minds and I would absolutely love to see Angelina Jolie star as a serial killer. There have been several particularly excellent criminals on that show (and by excellent I just mean really well written and then well portrayed), particularly those played by Jason Alexander and C. Thomas Howell. I think it would be fun to see Angelina as a really well-developed psychotic character who uses her beauty and charm to lure victims in. There have been several male characters written that way, it would be interesting to see the female version.
Meanwhile, I really loved Brad as a detective in Se7en and it would be good to see him reprise a law enforcement role, maybe an FBI agent consulting on a case on an episode of CSI or a guest appearance on NCIS. On the other hand, he could be a great guest character on an episode of House either as a doctor or a patient with a really bizarre medical case.
How about you? Even though it’s unlikely that Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie will make a guest appearance on a television drama or sitcom – heck, maybe you’d prefer if they never did! – let’s just imagine for a moment. What show would you love to see them show up on?

Even though it’s the weekend I’ll try to pop in regularly to make sure no one gets stuck in comment moderation limbo for too long. Please be patient with me though, I have a lot of decluttering planned for the weekend and possibly a dog sled ride with the kids if the weather isn’t too bad!
No TV.
No matter the reason, when a movie star is seen on TV, I start to think that they are unable to get film roles (Britany Murphy on SyFy [no disrespect to the dead]).
Most TV stars would give their eye teeth to be in a movie, even a small part..there is a reason for that.
As much as they are all artist, TV seem like a step down, movies…many steps up.
it might be nice for them to guest in two to three episodes. just a short storyline to tease.
I don’t think mixing movies with TV has the same stigma today as it once did. You mentioned Sally Field, Sherry. Add to that list Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Mark Walburg, Minnie Driver and others that escape me just now. I think the thing NOW is whether the TV show in question resonates in some way with the actor, and that the actor is secure enough (insecure = weak public image)to try something different. That said, it could still be a chancy thing if not done right. One of the reasons I would like Angie to do In Treatment (BESIDE IT BEING THE BEST THING ON TV) is because its formula is uniquely accommodating to actors with other projects on the go. In a nutshell, there are three or four patients who see the same one therapists (but never each other) perhaps five or six times. And that’s it. Next season; new actors. So it is definitely a commitment but at the same time an actor is not married to the series. If anyone is interested look it up on Youtube. I particularly liked the ones with April. Sorry if I went on too much. Thanks, Sherry.
I think it’s really fun when movie stars do cameos on TV. “Friends” had tons of famous people doing cameos, including George Clooney, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Susan Sarandon and Brad Pitt! … see:
http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-friends-of-friends-17-gimmicky-cameos-intended,2243/
The highest rating new tv show this season is starring Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J, NCIS Los Angeles. I doubt they won’t be able to do movies again… they are both really hot in this show.
I would love to see Brad Pitt in a comedy tv role, and Angie as a guest doctor in House, sparring with House.
this is really nice topic!
i would love to see them on TV but as a guest only. i already seen Brad on TV once during his guest appearance on FRIENDS, you know.. and his good there.. did Angie ever made a guest appearance on TV?? i dunno but that would be great too! but as i said, only a guest appearance….
i would choose CSI as their guest appearance show… or maybe a comedy show?? haha! i really don’t know because I still can’t imagine both of them on a TV show..
I think it would be absolutely fabulous for the two of them to do a single appearance together on the opposite sides of the law. One good and one evil. I know I sure would watch it. And didn’t BP start out on TV in the soaps or Dallas or something like that? And didn’t AJ do something for HBO about Gov. Wallace’s wife. I think she won an award for the performance. Fabulous just Fabulous.
I would love to either of them in ‘Bones’ or ‘Criminal Minds’. I think Angelina would be amazing as a forensic scientist…
This is all a moot point. A truly A-list actor would never go on television. Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J are doing a TV series because they can’t get movie roles. (When was the last time you saw O’Donnell in a hit movie?) That’s the case with most actors who used to do movies and are now doing television series. They go to televison when their movie careers are just about over or they never really had a movie career. This is especially the case with women. There are more and better roles for women on TV than in the movies.
There is a difference between an A-list actor like Pitt doing a one-off appearance on his (then) wife’s television series and actually doing guest shots on other television series. He would never do it because television for him was a BEGINNING when he was taking anything offered to get started in The Business. Angelina has never done television guest star roles, only made for TV movies (really good made for TV movies). These two people are the biggest stars in Hollywood. Going down-market to television now would be a terrible move, even for a show like “In Treatment.” It’s just not done by real stars, top stars. It would not be good for their careers and is in fact, unnecessary. Why would either of them do a guest spot on TV? Wouldn’t make sense.
In Hollywood there are “levels” of stardom . . . A movie star is at the top (that is where “EVERY actor wants to be); a television star is second; a top stage actor is third (second to some); and a soap opera star is at the bottom (way at the bottom and looked down upon by everybody). This is the reality of Hollywood. A movie star can do a Broadway play and not lose status but a movie star doing TV is considered to be at the end of his/her career and unable to get enough movie roles to have a career (i.e., C. Sheen, K.Sutherland, C. O’Donnell, etc/) or a really good female actress who is older or just can’t find decent roles (G. Close, K. Sedgwick, et al.).
So, what I’m trying to say is . . . you will never see Brad Pitt or Angellina Jolie in a television series as a guest star. And none of you should wish for that because it would mean their careers are over and they need the money to maintain their lifestyles. I personally hope that would never happen!!
I don’t know if Angie has ever guest starred on a show. Brad did Friends of course.. probably didn’t hurt that his then wife starred in it. He wasn’t going to say no I’m sure. He also did some other tv before he became a big name, like 21 Jump Street.
I like Criminal Minds as well. I also enjoy the CSI shows. I thought the idea of her being a killer was really cool. She or Brad should guest star on House M.D., I love that show. I wouldn’t mind seeing Brad with just a hospital gown on. House actually mentioned Angelina on one of the episodes. I would be ecstatic if the two of them were contestants on The Amazing Race.
I would like to see the two of them spoofing themselves by teaming up with Mat Damon to further torment Vincent Chase on Entourage.
LouAnn, I know it’s likely moot. It’s just a discussion post meant for fun. It kind of takes the fun away when someone lists all the reasons why this will never happen. I even pointed out that it’s unlikely. The question was not will they do it, the question was just sort of “what guest appearance would be a dream for you”. Angelina will never be on Criminal Minds but since it’s my favorite show it would be amazing for me IF she did.
Most of the discussion posts on PittWatch are technically “moot”, they are just supposed to be a little bit of fun on a weekend.
Lisa – Angelina as a doctor at war with House would be awesome! He’s so amazing but so completely socially inept that it could be hilarious!
I would like to see AJ in a guest role of a lady lawyer do her thing in a court room, as defense or prosecution side. It is also interesting to see her exchange banter with House,M.D.
I don’t watch to much TV so I really don’t know much about the series that are out there. I have seen House and really enjoyed, but I don’t watch on a regular basis. LouAnn makes some good points. I don’t think either Brad or Angie would consider TV right now, maybe years from now.
OT that writer from Newsweek who criticized Zahara’s hair is now criticising interracial/international adoptions and of course she mentions Angie.
I’d love to see them in a sexy show like True Blood. I also really like the idea of an NCIS episode or something similar. I was really excited when I heard about Angelina doing a Scarpetta movie, because I think she’d be good in a detective-style role. I loved her in The Bone Collector.
LouAnn, I think you totally missed the point of this post.
I would love to see Angie on a non conventional show, like Dexter or the Sarah Silverman Show (I believer Angie watches the show based on something Sarah said)
Brad is so much more edgy then the general public thinks. They have this golden boy image of him. I remember David Fincher saying that the public would be surprised to learn that Brad was more like Tyler Durden then they may be comfortable with.. Brad would be wonderful on a show like Community or Modern Family.. Something off the grid.
Angie has done a non big film roles. Gia and George Wallace (granted they were earlier in her career). But she seems to be moving away from films anyway. so maybe she will do an HBO or Showtime thing somewhere down the road. But Brad is getting more into Producing so I see his focus being on bringing projects to the screen and doing more supporting roles as the years go on. But whatever they do…I will be watching.
I’m not trying to be disrespectful here, but only Pitt and Jolie can decide what they will or will never do. I can however understand someone saying they don’t think they will, or don’t see it happening.
Thanks for the good post. It would be cool.
Didn’t Julia Roberts do Law and Order????
sarahc, she sure did in 1999. I just looked it up. And look at this:
Nominated — Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress – Drama Series
I don’t think Brad or Angie wants to do a regular television role, since I’m sure that something like this requires a lot of shooting time every day,and I believe they prefer to spend that time with each other and their kids. And I don’t think I want them to do sth like that!I just love them in movies!
But a guest star appearance is actually not a bad idia!!!I remember Brad in FRIENDS,and he was really good(Don’t get me wrong, but I really liked FRIENDS including Jennifer)And Sherry, you are in my mind!I was going to say CSI and House too!!!I’d like to see Brad in CSi and Angie in House!I like the House idia more, cause I love it(in fact I just saw an episode,so it’s the 1st thing I thought)!
I want them to appear on more talk shows when they promote their movies. We hardly get any tv interviews, mostly morning show appearences with Ann Curry or Matt Lauer. It would be entertaining to see one of them host SNL or go to a latenight show.
I really dnt kno what TV series would be best for either of them…Sherry your suggestions would be the onli roles I culd c them doing if this was ever a possibility but tho the line between movies and T Series hav faded i still think there is a slight bit of hesitation there. Because there are few actors who have been as successful as Brad and Angie and ventured into the TV roles (besides Sally Field…ofcourse) So on that note i think it’ll ever happen bt as i read some of the comments i get confused as to wether or not we are discussing wat roles they shuld play or wether or no theyshuld do TV!
A little OT but tomorrow is the Superbowl and along with all the weird, wonderful and expensive commercials there is supposed to be a new trailer for Salt. I am Canadian and we don’t get to see those commercials up here, but I know other websites are going to air the trailer as soon as they can. (hint hint)
So do you think we might have some game-day sightings of of our favourite Saints fans?
*…line between movies ans TV series…
30 Rock! There have been lots of A list celebrities on there (Operah Winfrey, Salma Hayek, Al Gore twice!, James Franco, and Bon Jovi will soon showing too), and they could act as silly or as serious as they wanted to with no judgment.
Haha 30 rock is awesome and I totally forgot about that show. I love Tina Fey. Great suggestion!
Good topic for thought, I would love to see Angelina Jolie on Big Love HBO playing a manipulator/sister wife to Bill Henrickson. She would then expose his family and meet her untimely fate from sister wife Nicolette Grant (Jolie would be undercover FBI).
Brad Pitt on Dexter, Showtime as a homicide detective, which then in turn captures Dexter and turns the tables on Dexter (whom killed Pitts lover) but he too ultimately meets his demise in one season merely.
Or, next movie for them both to appear together would be a remake of “Two Mules for Sister Sara”
Not ready for either of them to be on TV or cable. But … here’s another thought. For any of you who have seen GONE WITH THE WIND – Imagine a sequel with Brad as Rhett Butler and Angelina as Scarlett. Brad with dark hair and mustache (he already has hints of dimples)could certainly pull off that arrogant but caring and charming self-confident hero that was the essence of Clark Gable’s Rhett and you know Angelina would have no trouble playing the stubborn, determined, self-assured, independent but vulnerable Scarlett as good as Vivien Leigh. I’d love to see that . . .
Julia R. was dating Benjamin who was on Law and Order at the time
It does not matter if the actor was dating someone from a television show. You cannot argue that doing a guest appearance on television will ruin their career and then say it’s okay if they were dating/married to another actor from the show.
To stay on topic: I’m not a big fan of television so I cannot really picture them in anything. I do like Law & Order though so I suppose seeing Brad Pitt in an episode killing some civilians and running from the cops would be fun.
The best show Brad Pitt could be on is Sons OF Anarchy. It has gangs and motercycles.Brad loves riding his motorcycle. He could play a gang leader out to get clay and jax.and he’s has sercet that turn everything upside down(he and jax are twin brothers separted at birth).
One the thing about TV compared to movies is how an actor can let his or her hair down and just have fun with it. I am thinking of Matt playing with his image in Entourage.
For example I imagine a scene in Entourage where we see Angie and Brad getting an impromptu visit by by one of the gang in their on-set trailer; Brad looking too happy (like he is under a spell) and Angie being interrupted cooking something on the stove that looks strangely like frogs, bat wings etc. And she will say something like she is just cooking something up for the film’s public relations dept. Funny on TV, not so much in a movie.
I don’t think it would kill their careers if they ever decided to do a television show.. just look at Julia Roberts. And it’s amazing that she got nominated for it as well, I didn’t know that prior to reading the discussion posts.
OT:
Just saw pics of Brad and Maddox on their way to Miami for the Superbowl.. looking way hot and cute.. Hot= Brad…. Cute= Madd LOL
I know they’ve already done the “spy” thing on Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but I think it would be fun to see them as a spy couple on NBC’s “Chuck”. Maybe I’m weird. LOL
Would love to see them both having fun at SNL…but I think a stint on House would be quite cool too.
debra77, I saw some pics of them too saying they’re on the way to see the Superbowl in Miami.
Oops, forgot to put the link.

Sorry for cluttering up the inbox.
stratoula- I agree completely with your thoughts about Angie and Brad probably not wanting to do regular TV roles because of it likely taking a lot of time away from the kids. Anyway, I don’t really know what TV series I’d like to see them on. I don’t watch much TV, and when I do, it’s usually shows on Animal Planet, The National Geographic Channel, The Discover Channel, and the like.
Funny, just last night, Angie’s name was mentioned in “Numbers”. The story is an award night when the jewel was stolen. They mentioned that the vacant seats belong to Bruce, Keanu and Angelina who did not attend the awards night. I also saw Brad in the Friends episode. Now, neither of them even do talk shows except for Oprah during CCOBB promo.
Oh, I’m sorry I missed the point. I thought this was a “discussion” and we were supposed to give our “opinion” not just follow the crowd. I think I’ll just ignore these types of posts from now on since I apparently don’t understand what’s going on. Sorry!! Didn’t mean to upset anybody.
I think that Brad should make an appearence on the “According to Jim” show. Maybe he could be a “cool” boyfriend for Dana, or another somehow unlucky (or even lucky) band member for Jim’s band, with the permanent slot looming between him and another “talented musician”.
I would really love to see them on a show like Dexter, which in my opinion is just as creatively genius as any movie. The same probably goes for House! There’s a lot of quality TV out there nowadays. Then again, those shows are fantastic because they encapsulate their own worlds, and if Brad or Angelina dropped in it might transcend the reality of the show, breaking down the fourth wall or something if you know what I mean. There would be so much hype around the appearance that it would be hard to see them as the character they were playing instead of just Brad or Angelina making a guest appearance. That’s not their fault, just an unfortunate reality for celebrities at their level of fame. So in that respect they would probably be better suited to comedy or light hearted guest roles that allowed them to play up their appearance, like on Entourage or something like Friends (if it still existed).
We re-watched Seven and the Bone Collector recently and I really enjoyed them both as homicide detectives. That is why the NCIS, Numbers, CSI ideas might be really interesting too. Great topic!
