Discussion Post: Jolie-Pitt Politics

There’s a lot of talk lately about Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and politics floating around the Internet. Nothing is coming from credible sources and most of it seems to be just wishful thinking from some people but it made me start thinking about the possibilities.

First there are discussions of people hoping that Brad Pitt will run for mayor of New Orleans. I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen, but I could actually picture that. Many people think it would be a perfect match since Brad has done so much to help the locals who were left stranded after Hurricane Katrina. With his Make It Right project springing up new housing, so many people will have homes again. We also know that Brad loves New Orleans and so does Angelina; they’ve often referred to it as their real home base. The locals have often protected them from reporters looking for information, and although they’re still photographed there, it’s not usually as invasive as other places like New York.

Personally, I can see it, but I don’t think it’s something that he’s looking into. I’ve never heard him say anything that would suggest that he’d like to get into politics, but you never know. He wouldn’t be the first celebrity to do it, though. The only downside of Brad being mayor is that he wouldn’t be able to travel with Angelina when she films as easily. Then again, if she starts phasing out of movies, that may not be a huge deal.

The stories get even more ambitious with Angie though. The latest rumors out there are that Angelina Jolie would like to run for president of the United States. To me, this is even more laughable than the idea of Brad as mayor. She’s certainly very intelligent and cares a great deal about some serious political issues, but she even said in her recent interview with Ann Curry that she doesn’t consider herself to be a political person.

So, as far as we can tell, these stories are obviously not true, but for fun let’s have a discussion: Whether it’s mayor, president, or something in between, what do you think of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie getting into politics at some point in the future? Can you see it?

I think it would be interesting, but the selfish side of me would really miss seeing them in new movies, and I wonder how the media circus would get in the way. I’m not sure how possible it would be unless the constant paparazzi coverage dies down in the next several years.

Pitt Politics – What do you think?

I think Brad could win the mayorial debate if he really wants to. I live in New Orleans, and I think he’d be a great mayor. Let’s hope no one tries to stand in his way and give him any grief.

He’s got his brown paper bag and his tear complaints!

wwaaahh! been busy this week and i have so many things to catch up with, specially this one..

    ROFL! LOL! for this! :D
i remember Brad’s video, his saying there: SERIOUSLY! no! SERIOUSLY!! no!!!
    hahahaha!

‘cmon! how many times do Angie and Brad say that their better off without politics. and it’s not really their thing. they’ve already done so many things and i think they don’t need to show it off just by getting to politics. it’s just that the TABS missed them both (well who doesn’t miss them?!) so they’ve created another story. just like the new Tabs story about the JP’s scared about the twins health.. it so LOL! :D

angelina will NEVER be in politictal office any-way, so it’s kinda meh about angie’s education. you can read a book all you want, angelina probably knows more than any academic anyway

to be honest, i hope neither one of them has really any political ambitions. i don’t mind if they can influence policies, especially with regards to humanitarian issues, but they get enough flack just for existing. and phoebe’s right, they’re too honest to be politicians. :) heh. i think they do a great job doing what they’re doing now; they make an awesome deal of difference. they take on projects that are even more impressive than most politicians’ efforts.

They maybe off the tabloid covers for one week but they will be back the folowing week unless something major happens with the Gosselins. I read(wwd.com) for the 1st week ever Intouch(Kate spanking daughter)outsold People magazine(Chase Crawford). Unfortunately The Gosellins are the only one that can compete with Brad and Angie in terms of interest from tabloid readers.

I’m more or less in agreement with Caroline’s comment. It’s true that formal education have its important. But I know one politician in Canada who had not finished high school education yet.

    I’m not saying I completely disagree with your point, Caroline1965, but I don’t know…

Brazilian president has little formal education (see Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luiz_In%C3%A1cio_Lula_da_Silva).
I have no reason to especially like him, but the fact is that world crisis passed far away from Brazil.

On the other hand, as a college teacher myself, I know a lot of educated and completely incompetent people.

I don’t know if Angie or Brad are qualified for politics, but I believe that knowledge and capacity are more important than formal education.

they´re both too honest to be politicians IMO

Okay. I’m going out on a limb here and I know this might be upsetting to some of you and I may get accused of not being a fan… but anyway, here I go. I think Angelina Jolie makes a fabulous ambassador for a cause. She’s high profile, compassionate and loving, and brings attention from all over the world to real problems. She’s smart and knows how to direct attention where it needs to be directed. However, Angelina Jolie is undereducated to be a politician. She has a high school education. She speaks quite intelligently on issues she has researched and more importantly, been exposed to through her travels, but she is not educated the way we need politicians to be. Think of the day to day decision making skills a president, mayor, senator require. I teach history, and when you look at back at successful politicians they have formal education.

I know some people may think passion is what is required, and that you can always research a topic. But I think there is no substitute for formal education, and lots of it, when it comes to governance.

And in other news, Angie FINALLY won for best actress at the Saturn Awards for Changeling!! The CCOBB won for best makeup, best supporting actress (for Tilda Swinton) and best fantasy film.

Idon’t think either one of them will enter politics, at least not in the near future. However, it is entirely possible for Angie to be appointed as a high ranking UN official, or perhaps as an ambassador.

Neer, I entirely agree with you re the tabloids and their coverage of the passing away of celebrities. I don’t know why people still buy those rags.

Regarding the JPs allegedly entering politics, I don’t think so. They have already helped a lot of people without being politicians. It is for a better interest if they don’t. Just be the way they are now. Just my opinion.

    OT but JP related…

It’s a very sad news that both Michael Jackson & Farah Fawcett passed away. They are icons in their own ways. They are also famous personalities in their own time. It is to be expected that in the coming weeks (months), their death will be the subject matter for every publication there is, especially the tabloids which are always hungry for stories that they can speculate & fabricate particularly the stories that surround the cause of death, just like what they did to Princess Diana, Anna Nicole Smith and the like. As long as the curiosity of the public is still there, these tabloids will exploit their life & death to the max by featuring them constantly until they think the public’s interest wanes. IT’S SAD BUT THAT’S THE REALITY.

Someone mentioned in a site that due to this, the Jolie-Pitts will not anymore be the main stories of these tabloids. IMO, that’s not a bad thing for the JPs. In fact, it will be a welcome relief that the focus or the target of tabloid stories will not be about them. At least for a while, these tabloids will give them a rest & let the JPs lead their lives as they see fit, without giving wrong information (or lies) to its readers.

However, I think somebody will not be happy with this dual death news coverage of the tabloids. The person’s (& the publicist) fondness & machinations to be always in the news or publicity will be curtailed. If before, the people are not interested about the whining, tanning & hunting for guys stories, moreso now that there is a more important story to tell.

Publicity? The JPs don’t need that. They already had enough which were mostly made up stories by tabloids.

Hi, I would love seeing them as politician, especially Angelina Jolie . I think she will do a very good job. But not right now, maybe when she won’t do anymore movie and the children are old enough.

  17. By praexchen

as a politician i think they need more time. maybe in the coming years.

Brad would make a darned great mayor, yes indeed, but maybe he can use more influence without being tied to all the accompanying trappings that come with ‘office’, as he does now. He also of course is a totally devoted father to 6children, so I dont think he’s looking for anything that might keep him away from them any more than his current commitments – and he has his darling Angie to secure extra one:one time with . . . . But, who knows . . . maybe in the distant future – never say never!! I do feel that Angie and Brad already hold a lot of influence in the world’s political forums, what with their ‘good-works’ and high profiles; they seem very astute as to how to ‘hold sway’ – Angie’s recent comments on the refugee status are most powerful and cannot be dismissed by politicians.
They must both be excellent time-management experts, juggling with all that they do, and so well (despite being constantly haunted by the trashy-gossip-columns)!!
All power to them in whatever they do and however they do it – as we say in the UK: I take my hat off to them both!

hello check this pleae its nice , armani and angelina wow , i will buy it for sure thanks for the tips also here another nice thing aout angi

Believe it or not, Angelina Jolie has flaws … well, kind of.

“She’s a lot shorter than I thought she would be, but I was pleased by that,” says her “Salt” co-star Liev Schreiber, who, at 6-foot-3, is one of the few who would find 5-foot-8 Jolie tiny. “I’m happy there was a flaw.”

Adds the actor, who celebrated his Hamptons magazine Father’s Day cover on Monday, “Having said that, I think Angelina is pretty talented. And a remarkable human being, and a great mom. She’s definitely not like any other lady I know

Don’t see both of them as politicians. Love them as they are but if they do intend to enter politics, I want them to do a good job.

If Angie doing the ARMANI perfume, I will definitely buy it.
