OK HERE WE GO AGAIN...A WHITE PERSON THAT KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING AND LOVES TO SUM UP THINGS IN A NICE PRETTY BOX. IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE IDIOT. IF THIS CHILD HAIR IS LEFT UNTREATED AND DAMAGED. SHE WILL END UP DAMAGING THE HAIR POTENTIALLY FOR LIFE UNTIL SHE SHAVES IT OFF BALD. AND START FROM NEW. BUT HAIR DOES HAVE A MEMORY. HER HAIR MUST BE KEPT MOISTERED AND BRAIDED UNTIL SHE IS A TEEN AND DECIDES IF SHE WANTS IT CHEMICALLY STRAIGHTENED. IF I WAS THE PARENTS I WOULD JUST USE BLAK RAKSTAT LEAVE IN CONDITIONER AND GET HER HAIR BRAIDED AND LEAVE IT LIKE THAT. BLACK PEOPLE DON'T NORMALLY GET LICE SO IT WOULD BE FINE FOR IT TO STAY BRAIDED FOR AT LEAST 3-4 WEEKS WITHOUT HAVING TO DO IT AGAIN. ANGIE CAN END UP IN A MESS IF THIS GIRL GROWS UP INTO A TEEN WITH SELF HATE ISSUES...MY GOD!!! HELP THEM...BTW SHE IS A GORGEOUS GIRL, JUST TREAT HER HAIR WITH LOVE AND CARE...AND THAT DOES NOT MEAN FREE AND DRY AND CRISPY..BUT BRAIDED AND MOISTERIZED AS IT SHOULD BE CARED FOR...AND DONT WASH IT SO FREQUENTLY..BLK HAIR DOES NOT GET OILY LIKE WHITE AND ASIAN HAIR...

there is nothing wrong with the way zahara's hair is being cared for. first of all people should realise that she is ethipia and the type of hair is not the same as those of other africa. zahara's hair is not naturally cured in a way similair to heidi klum sons.

I wish i could say it's ok to let it go but as a black woman with mixed heritage it is vital for her to manage it. I think they are attempting to manage it but she does need it combed out and you can tell in some pictures that it hasn't been combed. She is a beautiful girl either way - however, when she gets older she will look at her sisters and brothers and feel as the odd person out if she damages her hair at a early age. I can tell that they are using something on her hair - it just needs to be combed out daily and probably braided. I believe it should be left natural as relaxers are not good - she seems to have a good texture to it as it is a "nice curl". For a black girl if they their hair locks up after not being combed for a long time - it will start sheading and will have to be cut out....it is obvious they are not letting it get that far - i don't think it is that serious but it might be a good idea to braid it up and/or put it is pigtails

Well, I read the Newsweek article, and I happen to agree with it. I am totally against relaxing young girls hair, but you do not have to relax it to care for it. Black hair is more fragile, that is why it is necessary to COMB it. If you all think it is torture to brush a childs hair, imagine how hard it will be to brush out Z's hair when it hasn't been combed for days? If they don't comb her hair, it will begin to lock up. I understand the comments about black women being ashamed of their hair, etc, but that hate is a problem incited by a society whose standard of beauty looks nothing like black women. Furthermore, it is not good hygiene not to comb your hair, how will Z ever learn how to manage her hair when she gets older. And yes I do agree that when Z starts to hang out with other black girls her age, she will be the odd one out. I also believe that interracial couples often have the same problems. I see no one mentioned the part of the article talking about how vital it is for a black child to understand race, and the part that their race plays into how society will treat them. These things are all connected. Hair is a sense of pride for black women, and has been that way for centuries.

I am an African American woman with natural hair. I love Zahara's hair. She is from Africa but she is from Ethiopia Northern Africa. They have a different grade of hair than other parts of Africa. When Zahara ages and her hair grows their is a very high probability that her hair will have loose curls and not so much kink. If people would do their research about natural hair and kinky curly hair they would notice that she has a type 2c-3a hair. She'll be fine and very beautiful as she ages. And FYI Tyra is not natural she has a relaxer, Her natural hair is not straight. Her REAL hair was revealed because she removed the weave not her natural hair. Natural hair has no chemicals treatments.

You are on the right track! Her hair looks fine and for those that want her to conform to some tradition - get a life! Her curls are BEAUTIFUL - and I hope that she continues to embrace her hair without altering for anyone else. And when it gets longer she will probably put it back in a ponytails uf she WANTS but it looks FINE.

There are several people of African decent that are still living on the plantation MENTALLY! Thank God the child wasn't adopted by one of them with all their baggage.

I'm a woman of African decent!

Hi guys,
personally speaking as a black woman (I only use a relaxer about twice a year at most)...I wish that black parent's would stop processing their child's hair at such and early age. It should be the child's decision to do make a step like this because many black people start out with very nice hair pre-chemicals. It's the processing that can damage the hair if not properly cared for...if people are concerned about the hair not being straigh, a flat iron or blow dryer can fix that. When Angelina first adopted Zahara, I must admit my main concern was her hair, but her hair has grown and it does look very healthy from photos...a hair bow, head band, or ponytail every now and again would not hurt but all in all I think that they are taking good care of Zahara's hair. Because let's face this little girl was bald headed when we first laid eyes on her. She has grown up to be a very pretty little girl and she seems very happy.

Small correction - Tyra Banks removed her weave and wore her real hair. However, that's not natural hair, since it's chemically processed (relaxed). There's a difference.

It would appear that Brad and Angelina have applied some sort of product to Zahara's hair, for which they should be commended. Before, her hair was natural, but dry. For an African-American woman's hair, that's not healthy in that it promotes hair breakage. I can, in this picture, see that her hair has been moisturized, and that is essential. Clearly, they got advice from someone.
