According to TMZ.com, her label’s boss, Clive Davis, hated the preview of Kelly Clarkson’s new album, “My December” so much that he insisted that most of it be scrapped and redone. Of course, this is a rumor but if current sales are any indication, at least some of her fans feel the same way. I haven’t heard enough of it to really judge but I am not a huge fan of her new single, “Never Again.” It just sounds a little screechy and over-the-top but that’s how I felt about “Since U Been Gone” and that managed to do well, so what do I know?

Does Clive Davis Hate Kelly Clarkson's New Album?

“Since You’ve Been Gone” was a lot more catchier than “Never Again.” I think Kelly is trying to get her fans to like her never again. lol

RCA SUPPORTS KELLY: Despite rumor-mongering from the U.K. Daily Star and other online sources, there is no dispute between Kelly Clarkson and the RCA Music Group. These rumors began after the SBMG International meetings in Las Vegas a couple of weeks back and were based on an inaccurate report about Clive Davis’ presentation of Kelly’s new LP at the confab. Sources who were there insist the chatter is not true. In fact, Davis specifically stated that Kelly is “one of the top four artists at Sony BMG” and wanted to ensure that she is treated as such. There are absolutely no plans to scrap the LP. Meanwhile, Richard Palmese’s promo team is working round the clock to deliver Kelly’s first single, “Never Again,” to trigger the release of what all are convinced is a chart-topping album. (5/4p)
Nice try Oliver. I with TALLFREAK..never again She was great on the Idol show because she was mixed in with really great singer. But its hard to convince people to buy your record when they can’t see you to distract ,so they have to rely on your voice alone.
LOL – TallFreak, I have to agree. Nothing against Kelly personally, or anything, but that new single is not too great.
Oliver – thanks for the imput. Hopefully you are right.
Excuse me Gerri but if they pulled the plug on her album, then why did RCA just post 7 days of TV appearances to promote her CD on RCARECORDS.COM and post her video, as the top video on their website? And why is she performing on LETTERMAN, JINNY KIMMEL, TRL,ELLEN,THE TODAY SHOW, REGIS AND KELLY all next week.
And the release was just announced as July 24. If you dont believe, watch all her tv appearances, shell clear it up. BY THE WAY, RCA HATED BREAKAWAY, Cuz it was too rock.
Wow, Oliver Kelley is a lucky artist to a fan as passinate as you. I will check out as many of these TV shows as possible.Thank you for the tips
[...] got the Kelly Clarkson(Breakaway) CD last year
. This year I wouldn’t mind getting her new album but it’s not out until July. Katherine McPhee’s first album has been out for a while [...]
Oliver, I will keep my eyes peeled as well and I will cover what I find. Thanks for the info.
KELLY WILL ROCK U: The Sunday L.A. Times featured a big, positive story about Kelly Clarkson and her rock-leaning album, My December, produced by David Kahne (whose CV ranges from the Bangles to Paul McCartney) and streeting on RCA/RMG July 24. The piece, penned by the paper’s primary music critic, Ann Powers, comes amid numerous reports of friction between the artist and her label over what appears to be a radical change of stylistic direction. The surprising album, writes Powers, “avoids the shiny tedium of many pop-rock projects by exploiting Clarkson’s ease in shifting roles. According to a source close to the singer, concerns among execs at…RCA over whether the album has enough pop flavor to go platinum but they are willing to take a chance. Given the chance, Clarkson doesn’t indulge in the interview cliché of trumpeting her integrity in the face of executives’ meddling—as a child, she says, she was a “people pleaser,” and she’s still reflexively tactful. But Clarkson has her own ideas about how to grow. She has plunged into songwriting, hunkered down with her touring band and come up with a sound that mixes the grand gestures of 1980s metal…with the barefaced emotionality of ’90s alternative music.” Can’t wait to hear it. RCA and the Firm already said it was false like on friday.
RCA is really proving this rumor as false. If you go to RCARECORDS.COM. Her video is like #1 in the playlist, theyre promoting her single, and she has like 15 new appearances on their news section. Its obvious that this is a rumor, Daily Star who is the one who started it put a HUGE question mark at the end of the headline and Daily Star in the UK meant it to be only as speculation. The album is getting released July by the way.
Another thing, its reported that they spent million s of dollars for this album….Clive is the most cheapest person in the world, he would never pay millions more for a new one. And plus, her album has been February, Clive listened to it but didnt really dig. But what was, there was a quote, and she begged to Clive. Here it is (its part from the review i posted up by Ann Powers)
It is very aggressive,” Clarkson said. “And it might be too much. But I just needed to be able to make this record and not have so many hands in the cookie jar saying, ‘Pull this string, pull that string.’ I was like, ‘Just give me this one thing, and I will make whatever record you want next time.’ Now, I need this, for me.” And obviously the gave in.
*It has been done February and she begged Clive to release, it and it grew on Clive..Just a little, really little bit. Obviously you guys are still doubting, but you’ll see, the album not be redone.
KELLY CLARKSON’S
MY DECEMBER HITS ON JULY 24, 2007
Grammy Winner’s Third Album Already Yields Top 10 Hit Single, “Never Again,”
LOS ANGELES, May 7, 2007—RCA Records recording artist Kelly Clarkson is back and raring to rock. My December, her third album, the follow-up to 2004’s Breakaway, which sold 6 million in the U.S. and 10 million worldwide, will be released on July 24.
The first single from the album, “Never Again,” has already climbed into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 following in the footsteps of such #1 hits as “Since U Been Gone,” “Breakaway,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” “Because of You” and “Walk Away.”
Produced by Grammy winner David Kahne [The Strokes, Bangles, Sugar Ray, Sublime, Paul McCartney], My December is Clarkson’s most personal album yet, all of which she’s either written or co-written. The Los Angeles Times Ann Powers calls My December “a 21st century idea of hard rock, incorporating loops and other studio effects to find a middle ground between the raw and the cooked.” L.A. punk legend and bassist Mike Watt, currently playing with Iggy and the Stooges, appears on three songs, while Clarkson’s other touring band members, Jason Halbert and Jimmy Messer, also contributed.
Whether it’s the funky new wave of “One Minute,” the startlingly confessional “Sober,” the meditative, soulful Christine McVie-style strains of “Be Still,” the bluesy Joplinesque twang of the cheeky, kiss-off song, “Chivas,” the blues hard-rock of “Hole” or the full-throttle Pat Benatar howl of “Haunting,” My December shows another side of Kelly Clarkson, who told the L.A. Times: “I’ll always come out with a different record each time.”
The Times’ Powers raved: “Clarkson has the moxie to rock without worrying about what anybody else thinks… Her gift is finding the source of vitality in absolute mainstream, people-pleasing pop, which by its nature breaks stylistic rules in favor of magpie mash-ups, bold appropriations and happy accidents.”

Please don’t beleive the media! they are gonna write what labels want to hear. Clive DAVIS IS A POWERFUL MAN WHO CAN MANIPULATE MANY THINGS..
Look at Mario Vazquez: all the vibe about him, so talented, bla,bla..and now he’s forgatten by Clive!!!!!!!!!!
Guitarist CESAR called Clive ofices many times and sent his CD and Clive never accepted simply because is not coming from his ‘buddies”. Cesar played w/ Placido Domingo, Luis Miguel, George Benson, London Philharmonic and the old man still hidding in his manhattan suite and listen to his pals ONLY!!! Clive, you said you believe in real talent. So do what you say please! Kelly Clarckson is talented but without Clive she would be nothing! singers like her need a mastermind behind other wise they die.
Regina – I definitely know that Clive Davis is an….experienced man. He certainly knows how to work the industry. I can see your logic. Thanks for adding that!
Clive Davis is a ego maniac who tries to control everything – hats off to Kelly who doesn’t give a **** who he promised what – she is not going to sing to 8-10 year olds or 70 year olds only because that is who Clive thinks will make him money – he has never liked Kelly and has always treated her disrespectfully – he has done everything on the backs of others – he puts himself in a no-loose situation and takes credit whichever way it goes – you can like him if you like but he is truly a p***k
Yowch. Well, at least you’ve got a strong opinion, Miss Independent. I like it (and your screen name too!).
WOW! Miss Independant, those are some strong words against the Clive. I guess he just rubs you the wrong way.
