I actually like it was very in Rory’s character to wait for what she really wanted rather than doing what she thought would be settling. I think she would have done the same thing even if Logan wasn’t around (and, interestingly, I think Lorelei would have backed her if Logan wasn’t around). On a side note: this is definitely the episode where you see Rory starting to realize that Logan, as important as he’s been the last few years, isn’t as important as her own future. Which, while sad, is a throwback to the old message/Rory from the show’s beginnings.

Logan was being a great boyfriend and let her decide for her self and not let him decide for her. She did a great job and the decession. I would’ve done the same thing.

I also think she made the decision on her own this time. But that was a mistake.
She had plenty of time to back out later in case the the Reston fellowship worked out. I never understood how Rory how is always so thoughtful really rolled the dice on this one.

And it’s weird she didn’t even ask Lorelai for advice.

No. Rory made up her own mind on this one, and she wanted the fellowship and went for it. Logan might have had a hand in her decision, but in the end it was hers and hers alone to make. Rory always looked to Logan for that final bit of encouragement when she was trying to make a tough decision and he gave her that extra push. Now that being said, I think she should have taken that job because journalism jobs are very few and far between. I know, I work at a newspaper as a reporter and once you have one of the jobs, you don’t let it go. She could have quit if something else came around, but at least she would have had a job.

I’ve always thought she should’ve accepted the job, at least as a “back up” just in case she didn’t get the fellowship. She said herself it was a good job and it was close to Stars Hollow. It seems Logan had an influence on this decision, since she had never been one to gamble and was always more of a careful decision maker. I think the people around you do have an influence, to some degree, on the decisions you make and she may have been swayed by Logan’s opinion of the situation. I wonder what Lorelai thought of her decision, since we never actually see Rory telling her she turned the job down…
